  1. As @alder24 referenced. All Phantoms are D'Denir, but not all D'Denir are Phantoms. . .
  2. Of course that is fine with me, but may I suggest you address it in the first post of the new poll? Maybe something like "The poll is about why a Sharder is responding to Moash and his situation, if your post in the thread isn't about that (such as posting a reference) then please do not vote the poll since it may skew results." Understanding our fellow Sharders and how they approach these stories is a great endeavor.
  3. That explains it - I avoid "vs" threads since I feel they provide nothing but bad feelings (results cannot be verified or even agreed-upon) IIRC, I posted once or twice in the Jedi one to point out the absurdity af trying to resolve such things when there were far to many factors being ignored in scenario. Not a fan of that kind of Forum drama - I would rather look up refrences and discuss known and unknown information that deal with contrived scenarios. My Apologies.
  4. Interesting theory. Don't forget we saw a likely application of Physical Adhesion from Dalinar as well (Fixing the Temple in Thaylenah - also possibly a combined application of Adhesion+Tension). Also, we have this WoB that all surges have varying applications to the different realms: So, the Surge of Adhesion's function in the SR is separate (but related) to it's CR and PR functions. Adhesion brings things together - in the PR that's expressed through manipulating Pressure, in the SR that's expressed through Manipulating Connection. Windrunners express the SR version of Adhesion through the combined Lashing - Reverse Lashing, which creates a gravity-well and Connects the target(s) to that well, drawing them in. Hope that helps
  5. You are right, I don't think it has been officially confirmed by-WoB; just considered true until/unless contradictory evidence appears - since Sand Mastery matches the legend of the Bone Aether so well and the description of a Luhel Bond in TotES matches Sand Mastery so well. Discussed at-length in this thread.
  6. Here's your quote (WoK Ch 49):
  7. Thank you for the rundown and collected quotes. I cannot recall anybody making that assertion. The only arguement I have seen is that Stormlight does not provide as much enhancement as Pewter - and that is only because of specificity vs generality, Stormlight does a lot - and therefore does not quite do it as well as an MOI that does one thing specifically (Pewter, especailly flared will be stronger - as per your comparison) but it definitely enhances all of those traits. Just as we see the Dor in an Elantrian (non-Reod) also enhances all of those traits (Raoden in Teoras is stronger and faster, able to match the base-enhanced Dahkor). But having it all laid out is a good thing and we can always link back to this post when the question arises again (and again, etc.)
  8. Please keep in mind, the Retcon was after publicatoin of TFE, but before publication of HoA - so nothing as-described in HoA was retconned. Mistsickness for anybody capable of burning away Ruin's body was longer-than-normal (as @alder24 mentioned - due to maintaining the Sign of 16) Hope that helps.
  9. I'll come back and exapand my response with WoBs and other references when I have time after work, but you may want to check out This Thread. We don't have all the facts, but it appears much of what you ask has to do with how Investiture assumes physical and energy forms. Processes like sublimation (Solid to gas without intervening liquid phase) and deposition (gas to solid without intervening liquid phase) cause temperature shifts (and like any normal Dew Point process, the result is condensation. Luhel Bonds (Sand Mastery and Aethers, possibly others) are different in that they specifically require water, not that the water is a byproduct of converting Investiture into Energy or Matter. Hope that helps
  10. Interesting thread. Thank you Sel: Scadrial: Roshar: Nalthis: Other:
  11. He was probably using it in the "lost lustre" sense that he uses in modern Stormlight (a sphere that has stopped shining), though I do not think that is supported by dictionary definitions. It does, indeed. It is implied to be the Chariot he used to leave Melerand in Ch 22 - that he stashed before entering Ekrobila. But he is not shown recovering it on-screen. He jumps off of the roof with the girl, the place explodes as they run away <Scene Break> Hours have passed and he has stashed the girl and returned. But the chariot is not mentioned until he's about to leave after questioning Vorndor.
  12. @JustQuestin2004 Already mentioned the Gold Spike, but here's the WoB for reference: Technically, this is not accurate. The Inquisitors hunted the Synod on their own, before Ruin's release (he may have sent pulses, but was not controlling them). Ruin sent some inquisitors out to hunt the Keepers that were not in Tathingdwen, when it fell (because they were out teaching, as Sazed should have been doing) - but that was separate from the attack on the Synod. WoA Ch 56 (Ruin is freed in Ch 58): HoA Prologue (Captured travelling Keeper) Hope that helps
  13. For consideration: TES Day 3: Also, keep in mind that the Tears are invested, partially, by growing in the vicinity of Edgli's Shardpool (by vicinity, we likely mean square miles, as they are said to grow all over the valley) and we only know where one of Sel's Shardpools is located - so invested plants or animals living near a Shardpool on Sel is also a possibility. It does not negate your theory, but it feels like it may apply. Hope that helps
  14. But that statement is also false (or, at least, not true as written - requires clarification). By the definition "Made up of liquid or moisture" Water, as a gas, is comprised of moisture as vapor or steam. Water, as a liquid, is made up of liquid Water, as a solid, is made up of liquid in a crystal matrix (ice)
  15. First note on a polls: Right? Second note on the Polls: You are missing the most-common reason is both instances: People think they will actually convince others to change their opinion (which is not impossible, but also not likely). - - - - - - - - - - That said - I chose 4 and other on the second half. . . But 4 is really why I open the thread in the first place and read/skim the posts - not why I posted. I like seeing how different cultures, backgrounds and heritages impact Sharder's interpretations of these moral-grey areas. Why I posted, usually, was to provide references and quotes that others discussed but could not find and quote (to also make sure the discussion had exact wording available). Once, early on, I posted my personal feelings on the subject, so I do not see a reason to do so again (I can always just link that post - my opinion has not changed). The other other reason I posted my thoughts that first time was because I had not seen anybody share my personal belief (see this post) Summarized:
  16. Didn't use the links, huh? Wiktionary. But it's not the only one - Dictionary.com: (merely reverses the order) Meriam-Webster.com: (Combines definitions 1 and 2) OED has both well - just further apart: Sorry, I don't know what dictionary you checked, but I cannot find a reputable one without both definitions. Hope that helps
  17. Dictionary says the answer depends on the context of the adjective - both definitions are valid and are not mutually exclusive
  18. Welcome to the Shard. I saw your Intro Post, please consider editing the first post to let us know what you have or have-not read, so we can avoid spoilers if necessary (or let us know in your profile or signature). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful tips and tricks - as each forum is slightly different. Investiture exists in all three realms, and Sapient investiture, such as Spren, still have a Spiritweb in the Spiritual Realm (just as the quote you gave from M:SH mentions how people's Spirit Web in the SR filters through the Cognitive to their Physical self). So, while we know that the broken bonds do cause damage to the Spren's Spiritweb (just as a Shardbalde kills because it cuts the Spiritual Self, not the Physical shell of a person), we do not yet know if that damage is based on Connection, Identity, both or some other combination of Spiritual Attributes. We do know the damage is enough that just saying new Oaths will not usually be enough to revive them (espcially if it is not the original bonded Radiant). WoBs: Hope that helps
  19. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read, so we can avoid spoilers if necessary. Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful tips and tricks - as each forum is slightly different. Also, I have reported your post for you, since this is the wrong Forum. All book discussion belongs in the appropriate section (Blue Header Bars on the main forum page): "Cosmere" for those works, "Non-Cosmere" for everything else, "Spoiler Zone" for Preview material and new releases in their Spoiler Period, and "Related works" for Unpublished material and non-books (blogs, podcast, youtube released, etc.). Each forum also has a synopsis on the main page to help determine where you should be mosting a given topic. For example, you posted in: When this should be in either : We do not have a specific WoB on this that I can find, but it is unlikely. A Manifested object is just giving a temporary form in Shadesmar to an Object's Cognitive self through investiture - not actually bringing the Physical object into Shadesmar. This is also seen in RoW when they are trading and Adolin discovers hos swords were much more valuable because he brought them physically, not just manifested them (RoW Ch 29, 75 and Mistborn: Secret History Spoilers): So, we see that Physical Items in Shadesmar are prized for their permanence, but a Manifested item is not really in Shadesmar, and disruption of its Physical Body can affect or negate the Manfested item. Hope that helps
  20. Welcome to the Forums. Please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some Forum tips and tricks, since you mention being new to Forums. Uh, see below?
  21. WoBs: It's unclear if he thought Ruin could manipulate Malatium the way it was used, but it is clear that he thought trapping Ruin's power in physical form and allowing it to be burned would be required for his endgame - hence removing Cadmium and Bendalloy (External Temporal Metals) and replacing them with Atium and Malatium (likely because the pairing requires both or neither and he could not only switch one - but that assumes Realmatic Theory we do not yet information on). Hope that helps
  22. Discussed in many threads, most recently Here. WoBs: Answered above, but possibly the similar thing you are recalling is Warbreaker? (Spoilers): Hope that helps
  23. Yes to the first half, but the WoB does not say or imply the second half. WoB: Hope that helps.
  24. I did not say it made sense, just that it was my interpretation of the scene. Which then implies, of course, that if the body was identifiable then Bat'Chor was locked up whenever she was killed.
  25. Thank you for the intro post, please consider mentioning if there are any books you have not yet read, so we can avoid spoilers, if necessary. Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for tips and tricks, like avoiding a double-post through use of Multi-quote and other techniques like searching WoBs on the Arcanum. Interesting theory, but Hoid was one of the people that Splintered Adonalsium, he just didn't take up a Shard (he was a different kind of Vessel at one point). WoBs: When we eventually get to the Dragonsteel series (likely after Stormlight Archive 10) we will get back to Hoid's origin story. Dragonsteel Prime is available now - but it is no longer Canon. Hope that helps
