The reason why Allomancy destroys Atium crystals is because Preservation and Ruin are opposites. The power of Preservation is breaking the Crystals through which the power of Ruin is collecting. If there is a Geode present, this would not remove the Geode or Atium bead it contains - but it does prevent the crystals from forming new geodes and beads. Kelsier was finding the holes because the Crystals, as a focus for the power of Ruin becoming Physical are also impregnated with Metal - and all that it implies. I know there are more WoBs - but this is the only one I found right now. I'll update as I find the others. Hope that helps

Scadrial swear word on Roshar? Am I going crazy?
Treamayne replied to firebird1o1's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well, I searched the ebooks for specifically "rusts" with no result (case insensitive), and searching rust alone got a number of hits, but mostly variations of rustle, rusty, and trust. Can you please verify which version you were reading? ( I ask because my ebooks are old, so if it was a 10th anniversary or similar, it could be an edition tweak). Great catch. I think I missed it because by the time I got to Rhythm of War, I was filtering as " rust" (space rust - because of so many trust/crust/frustrate/etc. false positives) and there is not actually a space before the term. Idea for T-shirt - Threnody/Metal
Treamayne replied to aboveandbreawn's topic in Sanderson Fan Works
You could maybe balance the logo portion by reducing the size of the "White fox" portion and placing some Shades in the background (maybe a mid-layer with red eyes, and a back layer with green eyes). Mr. Wobble has some interesting pieces with Light effects that could maybe serve as an inspiration, if needed: I've gotten his permission before to use some crops of his artwork for personal use on other projects - but I would guess there are a lot of "glowing eye shadow" artwork - assuming you would even need inspiration beyond the Threnody Art in Arcanum Unbounded that already shows one version of a Shade. -
Thank you - though it's nothing special. I just enjoy answering questions and know that since I have easy access to search books (via Calibre) it is sometimes easier for me to find and post references. @alder24 answers as much, and better (though often we post to the same thread). @Trusk'our also goes out of their way to answer questions and elaborate on theories (especially where Hemalurgy is involved). Having been accidentally Spoiled; I am, perhaps, overly sensitive to helping others avoid the same fate. It's part of why I added Spoilers as the top section of the Sharder FAQ and posted this Thread (rant) back before the Spoiler Zone opened up for SA5.

Also discussed again here. And we now have a WoB on the subject: Hope that helps

Should I sign up for the Cosmere RPG?
Treamayne replied to Trusk'our's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I do not know if we have an MSRP for these after the Kickstarter. I would imagine they will eventually be on DriveThru RPG and other vendors, You could hedge your bet and just get a PDF now so you can read/review it to see if you want to invest more time/money at a later date. It likely depends on your budget and finances. It sounds like the "World Guides" will be the story/lore relevant portions if you want to focus there before investing in the Handbooks, Dice, Plot Deck, etc. (I'm not even certain if those will be optional or required). Hope that helps -
They are on the Coppermind here. Cleverly hidden under the search term "Letters." Hope that helps.

What command should Vasher have given?
Treamayne replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't know about rendering any "Destroy" Command "safe" - but I would guess when we learn more about Azure's blade, you'll have your answers about a less dangerous awakened Sword. Hope that helps -
Well, first and foremost, Thaidakar believes that if they can crack how to Unkey something like Stormlight that will be a step closer to solving his problem with being unable to Worldhop in-person. But there are other Considerations too, such as ease-of-access. Hope that helps

How did the Parshendi get Shards
Treamayne replied to KnightoftheCosmere's topic in Stormlight Archive
On the one hand, we know the blade and plate originate from after teh recreance - not simply because of BAM and the Nature fo Deadeyes (because we do not know enough about that yet, and teh WoB referenced blow implies that at least some blades originnate from before the false Desolation - which was only 2000 years before WoK) - but, more significantly (to me at least) because the Listener Blades had Bonding Gems - which was a discovery from about 2 centuries after the Recreance. On the other hand, it has been 2000 years - and a lot can happen in that time. While we do not have any specific WoBs or other sources for where their Blades and Plate originated - the one WoB we have about missing Shards can certainly apply here. WoB: It is not hard to believe that over 2000 years, at least 8 shard bearers died on the Shattered Plains in some way (Greatshells, Highstorms in the Chasms, Exposure, Loss of plate Stormlight, etc.). Just because we know that by Eshonai's time, there was no known significant interaction between Humans and Listeners before Gavilar's expedition; does not mean that there was no interaction whatsoever over those 2000 years. Especially since over-land travel to/from Natanatan would likely cause at least some groups/caravans to pass through or near the Shattered Plains. Hope that helps. -
What command should Vasher have given?
Treamayne replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
What makes you think this was the goal? We have no indication that was even part of the goal, much less the primary goal. WoBs: So, the goal, as far as we know, is (paraphrased) "We saw these great magic swords on Roshar that were self-aware. If we can Awaken a sword to be similar we can prove that Type IV BioChromatic Entities are possible." - There is no part of that based upon what abilities the sword will have or bestow, or enhancing/mitigating the amount of damage done. Why would the Command need to include that sentiment? Per WoB - it's not about a Sword needing a Command about cutting or destroying - it's that the Cognitive Identity of being a Sword impacted how the object interpreted the Command. WoB: So, the result we see is influenced by the shape and cognitive Identity of being a Sword (how it is perceived and how it perceived itself), the fact that the sword was Steel (as opposed to some other metal), and the Command Used. Any of those "ingredients" change, and the outcome is different. But the fact the Brandon says you could Command a Shield to "Destroy Evil" implies that the Command itself is not based upon the Awakener's perception of the object being Awakened - only that the object's Identity will influence how the Command is interpreted. Hope that helps. -
How did "Destroy evil" become "Eat investiture"?
Treamayne replied to AnthonyC4's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think there is a flawed premise in this conjecture. There are two ways that Nightblood consumes investiture: To fuel his ability to pierce all three realms, he feeds off of the investiture of his wielder. This has nothing to do with the Command - it is simply the method through which the Awakeneing is powering his ability to fulfill his Command. When Nightblood destroys something, he pierces it in all three realms and destroys all three aspects of the the being/object (Spiritweb, Cognitive Aspect, Physical Body), the vast majority of the investiture is released back into the system. Only a small portion of it is absorbed by Nightblood as a side effect of the method through which he Destroys. Even the investiture he consumes does not "leave the system." @Trusk'our has already provided the WoB on how Nightblood allows his weilder to decide what "Evil" is. Here's is the WoB that directly answers your question: Other WoBs: Hope that helps- 5 replies

This is not likely at all. There are two actions involved with Nightblood. When wielded, he drains Investiture from the Bonded Wielder on an increasing scale, until dropped or sheathed When Nightblood Pierces anything (person, object, Manifestation of Investiture, etc.) it destroys on all three realms, absorbing some of the investiture and the remainder turns to smoke. In your scenario he is not being wielded at all, nor is he piercing or cutting anything (except a few unlucky spores on his way to the bottom of that particulat spore ocean) so he would act like he does in Warbreaker Ch 56: Piercing the wall, note that Nigthblood did not DESTROY either the building or the entire wall - just a section of it (likely based on Vasher's Intent). When Vasher threw Nightblood away, Nightblood did not DESTROY the entire floor either. In fact, without a guiding intent, he did not even put a hole in the floor - just a small "rip" in the floor where the blade cut the stone. While I cannot find a direct WoB stating that the blade must pierce or cut to DESTROY someone or something - I also cannot find any examples where the side or edge of the blade destroys anything simply by resting against it, rather than actually piercing or cutting the object. Hope that helps

[Theory} Shallan is Chanarach's Daughter
Treamayne replied to teknopathetic's topic in Stormlight Archive
Both of those were the TestamentBlade, not Pattern: Not that the disparity addresses her seeing the light that nobody else can see, because it is her remembering her father put the Shardblade in the safe - so she hallucinates the glowing light because she is supressing those memories. [Discuss] Rhythm of Seeking and Hunting

Not only beating to a Rhythm, but specifically influencing the emotions of those around him -
[Discuss] Rhythm of Seeking and Hunting
Treamayne replied to Treamayne's topic in Cosmere Discussion
My current thinking is that a CR rhythm is like a tuning fork. A SR Rhythm already implied to be a Constant (each Singer atuning a Rhythm here's the same thing at the same time) but that Rhythms can be attuned when not feeling that emotion - but can sometimes help induce that emotion (Eshonai Attuning Rhythm of Peace to feel calmer in WoR). This, to me, implies that the SR Rhythm is influencing something in the individual - which is what led me to start wondering about each person's CR aspect having Rhythms based on emotional state. That's when I remembered the WoB above about Soothing and Rioting actually "lapping" against the Cognitive Aspect. Since we actually see Vin Duralumin Seek one of Breeze's Soothings that results in her hearing the Rhythms of the emotions being influenced (WoA Ch 20). So, my guess is that for Emotions to be a Rhythm - and that Rhythm to be influenced - then those rhythms cannot just be a SR constant. For each individual, there likely needs to be in Individual Rhythm of Emotion (which changes in accordance with the felt/expressed emotion). And if WoB says that is influenced in the CR - then it is likely that these Individual Rhythms are also expressed as a CR Rhythm - which is what made me think of how Emotions attract Spren. It seems logical that Emotion Spren woudl be attracted to the Corresponding Emotion Rhythm when that Rhythm is expressed through a Cognitive Aspect. Like I said - no definitive conclusions yet - just thoughts circling like highstorm winds that I hoped to share to inspire discussion and brainstorming. -
So, during my SA re-read, a few disparate facts congealed but refuse to resolve into solid conclusions. I thought I would post them here for the group to discuss and brainstorm (and so I can concentrate on other things and hopefully dull the bouncing thoughts from distracting my empty brain). Knowns: Singers (Listeners) attune Rhythms Likely a SR Source - since disparate groups on the same rhythm stay synced over any distance Seons also appear to express Rhythms The Well's thumping was Prevervation's Tone and Rhythm Seekers are hearing variations on Preservation's Rhythms when burning Bronze Lifesense also functions, at least in part, on a Rhythm (Cognitive or Physical?) Likely Cognitive, since it can be blocked by Copper CR Rhythms can be modified or influenced Changes to the CR rhythm ripple through the SR and PR aspects of a given individual - based on Soothing, Rioting, Voidlight influence on Singers/Fused, and Moash's experience with Odium. So, my current line-of-thought is: Rhythms can exist in all three realms, and can originate from Investiture (SR) or Cognitive Aspect (CR) Rioting and Soothing may work on principles similar to constructive and destructive interference with a CR Rhythm Emotion Spren are attracted to certain CR Rhythms Which is why large crowds draw less Spren, as the various Rhythms interfere with each other - making no one clear "signal" Nightmaws and such are also attracted to CR Rhythms (which as also produced by Patji's fingers) Nigthmares are also likely attracted to similar CR Rhythms Any other thoughts, ideas, extrapolations, etc.? If accurate, what does this tell us about the Realmatics of Tone and Rhythm? WoBs:

Just keep in mind that it is unlikely that those examples are using BioChroma (just as Father Machine was Awakened, but not with BioChroma):

Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some (hopefully) useful forum tips and information. With a thread title like that, I think you need to explain why you think that will be the case before we can agree or disagree with your reasoning. Hope that helps and we look forward to your theory and discussion.

The Mystery Behind the Mink, Maybe
Treamayne replied to Wit Beyond Measure's topic in Stormlight Archive
WoBs: And so I wonder what the mythology of the minklike creature is It's a lion - WoBs: The RAFOs are about why these creatures are myth, but the WoB is old - long before Oathbringer clarified that humans came to Roshar from Ashyn, and that's why they retain terms like Wine, Chicken and Hound - but don't quite use them correctly. Adolin makes the connection to Minks, because it is one of the few other mammals to gain a foothold in the Rosharan Ecosystem: They call hard alcohol "Wine" because they no longer have a frame of reference for the distinctions, similarly, pictures of unknown predatory mammals sometimes get called by the wrong name (mink in this case) for the same lack of distinction. All of that said, I would be surprised if that mythological association for Minks was not part of the inspiration for General Dieno, though I doubt he's the Kandra, because the Kandra being on Roshar was from book 1, and he wasn't introduced until the Interludes of Oathbringer. Hope that helps -
A slight problem with the 17th Shard
Treamayne replied to AltonicKeys's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Yes, it is very similar to a compass rose (I've done many military logos with various versions - they are popular). Version 3 options A-D A/B: All layers the same size, with and without black outline: C/D: Back layers descending size, with and without black outline: Though, now that I am looking at them, I wonder if the 17th "shard" shouldn't be splitting off of one of the top iright quadrant tines. . . If anybody wants a variation of this with @AltonicKeys's 22.5 degree thinner tines, let me know and I'll see if I can make it work. -
A slight problem with the 17th Shard
Treamayne replied to AltonicKeys's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Update Version two, without adjustusting the size/shape of the original (but you can see some alignment is still not-quite-right). Also not sure yet why the export color got messed up. . .
