Welcome to the Shard. Thank you for your Intro Post to let us know what you have and have-not read. Please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Every art does have it's limitations - including AonDor. Did you notice that it took months of study and many many hours of practice for Raoden to accomplish an Elsecalling via Aon Tia at the climax? (Stormlight Archive) AonDor's limitations are in how hard it is to use, not great for combat and unlikely to be useful to any but the most dedicated scholars of the art. Even Galladon said that Pre-Reod most Elantrians never really used AonDor much - preferring the ones that did know how to use it to make teh Fabrials other Elantrians could activate for a static effect (like the light panels using Aon Ashe) Strong, yes. Versitile, yes. Extremely limited (one country only, weak anywhere else and requires a very hefty knowledge/practice investment to be useful).

Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Yes. Investiture, like Matter and Energy, can neither be created nor destroyed - only changed forms. Example - Elantris and SfSitFoH Spoilers: Hope that helps

It's less than 50 pages difference (PHM is 496 pages, TFE is 541), but I would bet some of the subplot will be lost. There are going to be a lot of changes anyway (Brandon's writing the script, so they are his changes, but changes none-the-less).

Yes, Dragons are "'Ageless" and, as @Trusk'our said, most forms of investiture (but not all) insufficient quantity will convey this benefit (Breaths and Dor are the two we know) and there are othe rmethods of Agelessness and/or Immortality (see WoB). The thing to keep in mind is that, while the body may not continue to age, the Soul still does age, and the accumultated weight of Memories can have some very bad effects. (Stormlight Archive: that is one factor in the madness of the Heralds) Because they are shapeshifters, when a Dragon in human form appears old-aged; it is because they want to appear old (e. g. Foil did not appear old in IED). It is implied that should Dragons live long enough, they choose to go to the Spirit Shores (where dead dragons rest) - not because their bodies have fialed due to age. However we won't get confirmation of that until Dragonsteel (or a WoB - but Brandon RAFOs those questions). WoBs: Hope that helps

As someone with zero background in acting or productions (other than being a fan of theater) - some notes (likely useless): I know audition readings are not in costume - just wanted to note that Dockson has a half-beard (aka Goatee w/ moustache, circle beard, etc.) What was the source of the abbreviated script? Or did you self-edit for time? The comment on Ruddy is very significant foreshadowing for the climax, and it was missing Comraderie felt lacking (though the lack of body language and interaction likely plays a part in this) This is your best friend you have not seen face to face in 2 years and you thought was dead until months ago; but the reading felt more like an employee talking to a boss. Restrained humor with a touch of obsequiousness. . . Trap reveal feels right on target - the danger is real and they have all accepted that, so straight forward delivery seemed perfect Hope that helps

Please see The Sharder FAQ for techniques like Multi-quote and Editing posts. The rule is about making multiple consecuitve posts (which people have abused to over-inflate thier post count) when the system is more than able to let you discuss with multiple people in a single post. Hope that helps

As the venerable Gump said "Oops happens. Sometimes" (Paraphrased) Thank you very much.

This should probably be in Mistborn forum, since it deals with HoA Spoilers. I see nothing wrong with the word choice. I understand the reference you are making - and that definition of "groom" is 4th of 7 for the conjugation "grooming" - far from the only definition and not even close to the primary definition. I'm sorry that is the direction your mind took that sentence - but there is nothing in the passage stating or implying that definition was intended. Also, please note that this book is now over 20 years old - the amount of child predation news was lower, making it less likely for the passage to be misread.

It's linked in the Sharder FAQ, if you ever need to find it again. Happy to help

Welcome back to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. We do not yet have WoBs on this, but it seems like it may be possible, based on similaries with The Sibling and Nightwatcher. We do know that, historically, Wind Stone and Night were the original three Bondsmith Spren - so it was possible before, but we don't know if it remains possible. Presumably, that will be covered in the back half. WaT Ch 21: Hope that helps

Understood and concur. Agree to disagree - but it sounds like a great Q&A question should somebody ever get the chance to ask. My impression was that all E2+ Mists are "Harmony's mists," some are 75% Preservation (and lighter colored), some are 75% Ruin (and darker colored) - because white gas + black smoke = various shades of grey Mist. That said, I absolutely read that WoB before Era 2 was published, so I was biased looking for indicators of the "two kinds of mist" we were expecting while AoL was being edited for publication. . .
-
I didn't think we did have two sets of mists? Era 1 had Preservation's, briefly egged on and made more dangerous by Ruin, and Era 2 has Harmony's. Harmony's existence means naturally occurring manifestations of Preservation or Ruin as individual Shards shouldn't be possible. Where do we see two types of mist? I'll have to go back and do some reading. Mists with more Ruin are darker than mists with more Preservation. References:

Wait are you describing Hunger Games as awful writing? The trilogy doesn't have great prose, but that's about it imo (and the prequels are better in every way, except pacing in aBoSaS) Yeah, I am. I dislike the Hunter Games writing. I think it was a good idea that was pretty much ruined To me, I think for many people it's a fundamental misunderstanding of the original trilogy - it is mean to be a story of personal horror. The first person limited viewpoint was intended to let the reader feel same confusion the MC does (in theory). The problem is, the story itself would have been better from 3d person limited (like Ballad) and that's why the Movies are generally considered better, because the worldbuilding gets more fleshed out when you have scenes from outside of Katniss' perspective. The first trilogy was not bad. However, if you go into it expecting a normal dystopian story with worldbuilding and setting, you will likely be disappointed in a personal horror story that happens to be set in a SF dystopia.

Sorry, it has been over a decade. . . My apologies.

I do not think Preservation *made* the Mists - Leras altered them and used them as a vehicle for Snapping. If They were wholly of preservation then Ruin would not have been able to also alter them - and - we would not have two sets of Mist in era 2 (Preservation and Ruin). HoA Epilogue: Ish - not constantly, they do not even come every night (sometimes not even every week) We have no data - so this is entirely conjecture; but, I think that Mist is the cognitive Identity for Scadrial because of how Leras and Ati created it from nothing in an otherwise empty star system (and we all know that investure pulled into the physical realm is gaseous until/unless formed or shaped into some other form/pattern). So, they pull the investiture through (planet size ball of Mist) and then shape and form Scadrial from that. . .
-
I do not think you could get such a massive change in timelines shorter than geological scales. The Shadesmar of a given planet is based, not just on the thoughts of the inhabitants, but on the Cognitive Identity of the planet. Looking at Scadrial, one would think that if it was based solely on the cognitive perception of the people (conceptual reality) then Scadrial's Shadesmar should be based on metal, not mist (after all, the mists were a post-Rashek primary thing and were the "deepness" before that), and much less consistent (presumably, given what we know from Alendi and Kwaan's writings). But the Focus of Scadrial is metal (and that's why we have the three Metallic Arts) and even with Allomancy and Feruchemy being a daily part of life, that has not shifted Scadrian Shadesmar. I thought it was implied that Rosharan Shadesmar was gemstones (as gemhearts are the primary conduit of a Nahel bond) before humanity and beads came along.

I wouldn't have considered Red Rising to be similar to TFE - though I can see how you got there. To me, it was a standard Sci-Fan that was basically "Hunger Games in Space." I enjoyed book 1, did not like Book 2, hated book 3 and stopped. Granted, when I read these there were only three books, as book 3 released while I was reading book 2 - I simply had no interest in the second trilogy (now tetralogy) when it was announced. RR Spoilers: YMMV
