  1. Based solely on observed qustions on the Shard, the most confusion seems to come from those that start with Stormlight Archive only (books 1-5, skipping Edgedancer and Dawnshard).
  2. Updated wtih Tag information
  3. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. We know he was off-world. Brandon has RAFOed anything else because the inter-series chronology is still in flux. One theory (Elantris, M:SH Spoilers):
  4. I did not say "just the gemheart" - I said that because the Fused Bond begins there - the body's portion of the spiritweb is not evicted with the Cognitive Identity. In YNP, very little of what is "painter" remains (but enough that Yumi's she-painter body is close enough to be considered family) In the Fused - the body remains of the host, the mind and identity are evicted and die; so the markings (the expression of Identity) change to fit the Fused now riding the controls.
  5. Because there is a significant difference - In YNP Yumi's Cognitive Identity supplanted Painter's (who was temporarily evicted from his body) and was the sole inhabitant. On Roshar, the Fused inhabits the body's Gemheart and forms a Nahel Bond with the body, evicting the Conciousness (Cognitive Identity) - but not removing the entire spiritweb of the individual they have replaced. OB I-3: Similar effects, but not quite the same.
  6. Thanks for your thoughts. One thing that may help (context, not spoilers) WoBs:
  7. From the Coppermind: We do not yet know what metal he uses or what process he accomplishes this change. WoB:
  8. You may want to consider editing the thread title with a Support Tag (at least it seems you want a safe place to vent, not a debate on El's merits and flaws). Hope that helps
  9. Overall WoB: WoBs: WoBs: I'll find more WoBs when I have some time.
  10. The Inspector in Les Miserables (all versions) - Picture Nale with even less humor and flexibility of thought Spoilers
  11. Welcome back, I hope you are doing better. You should edit your post and combine these into one - since double posting is against policy. (Sharder FAQ) That said, interesting theory. RAFO.
  12. I enjoy both, for different reasons; but I have to admit Bean is a bit insufferable in Ender's Shadow. His character growth through the Shadow Trilogy (Hegemon, Puppets, Giant) is much better (though the antagonist feels DEM to me). I also really like Ender's character arc in Ender in Exile (has minor spoilers for Shadow of the Giant) and makes the transition from Ender's Game to Children of the Mind much less jarring.
  13. Technically, Hope of Elantris is a framing story and flashback - the beginning and end are after Elantris (Serene is pregnant), with Ashe telling the story of what happened with the children that was not on-screen in the novel during the climax. WoB: Hope that helps
  14. The Integrated Secret History is already broken out by-chapter - here (M:SH spoilers at link). Though, for my personal epub, I took it a step further and went scene-by-scene because many SH chapters cover multiple HoA chapters (e. g. returning from the Ire to Fadrex is 1 secret history chapter spread over 6-8 HoA chapters)
  15. Nicrosil Feruchemy is meant to be a major component of Era 3, Brandon has refused to answer all questions about it. Hope that helps
  16. RoW Ch 22: Adolin's PoV - "slip" into Shadesmar is not, necessarily, Physically entering Shadesmar. Implied yes, definitive, no. The WoB also says it is implied - and with Implied stressed and RAFOed, I remain doubtful. But, thank you for the source. Edit: even if they do transition physically, it's not the spren pulling her in, it's the strength of the Surge of Transformation allowing deeper access to Shadesmar - so the point may well be moot.
  17. Any more information on that source, perchance? Chapter number, scene, PoV?
  18. I would direct you to the WoR Deleted Jasnah Scene that describes the difference between Elsecalling (changing realms with your physical body) and using a Junction to see Shadesmar when Soulcasting (what is happening with Shallan - her preception changes to the Cognitive Identity while her physical body sits in the physcuial realm, mindless). A double bond will not allow a Lightweaver to Elsecall. . .
  19. The way you ask this implies that you think it applies to all Unmade - but we only know of one for whom this is true - Sja-Anat. Unmade like Moelach and Nergaoul exist in Shadesmar, but have an effect in the physcial realm near them. Unmade like Ashertmarn also exist in Shadesmar, but can be pulled through by enough of their affiliated emotion - like other emotion spren (Ashertmarn's heart residing over the Oathgate in Kholinar as long as the Cult continued to revel). Yelig-Nar is only pulled through into a host that bonds his gemstone. While Re-Shephir is primarily in the physical realm with her Midnight Essense creations. We should learn more about BAM, Dia-Gonartis, Chemoarish in the back half. That said, we do not know why they have differing states/realms, which should also be covered in the second Arc of Stormlight Archive. Hope that helps.
  20. It's not Rep, but you can already use advanced search to find your posts with a minimum number of views and/or a minimum nuber of replies. The SHARDER FAQ has details on using advanced search, you simply search "topics" and add the views or replies filter bottom-center.
  21. You would use multiple breaths to make the Lifeless that would then become an Island-sized paperweight because they would lose their Spren and collapse to Square Cube Law and physics. WoB (yes, it's Chasmfiend, not Tai Na - but since that is smaller. . . )
  22. Well, for example, Corundum (Ruby/Sapphire) primarily occus in metamorphic rock, which only requires heat (>150C) and pressure (100MPa). Even if Roshar has no Tectonics, it must have a molten core so there is heat, and depth brings pressure. For that matter, magma is still likely (just without an outlet to the surface) so Beryl (Emerald, Heliodor) can still exist at depth. I do not think we can no for certain unless it is covered in the text, or we get new WoBs - but, to me, it's likely that all three could produce a Perfect Gemstone. Why would it be limited to one source?
  23. BTW, Sorry I forgot to say thank you for the Julia Set reminder. I was obviously not thinking before. I'm sorry
  24. I'm not certain I understand the quandry. Adonalsium made Roshar - and made it in such a way that Investiture (light) ties to Gemstones, and that native beings actually grow their own gemstones in symbiosis with the Planet's investiture cycle. But you do not think he also made a natural process for geologic mineral gemstones (despite a WoB impling he did) or that Radiants would have mined them? Sorry for my confusion.
  25. It does - but you are also dismissing that Surges could have accessed much deeper mines than that tech-level would normally indicate. Why do you need tectonics to move natural gemstones to the top of the crust, when you can go down as deep as needed to find what you want. And there had to be some tectonic activity in Roshar's past, or there would not be Mountain ranges today. I'm not saying your theories are impossible, merely pointing out that you are dismissing an option without thoroughly evaluating it.
