Anyone catch the Alcatraz reference in Yumi?
Treamayne replied to AonDorSmiteThisGuy's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Eye-reading or ear-reading? Do you happen to know what chapter? Searching the book, I cannot find any references to the word Librarian (outside of the "other works") or to the phrase "love life." If I knew what chapter you were referencing, I might be able to pinpoint what was actually in the passage. Hope that helps. -

BLUF: He does not need to conciously return the investiture - medallions (unsealed metalminds) are a Fabrial (mechanical use of Investiture) and Intent "when I no longer have skin contact, I lose this power" is enough to take care of the process on its own. Note: So, there is a lot to unpack here - but the premise is a false assumption that somebody without native F-Nicrosil would need to understand how the process works and conciously direct that process to make it work. However, that is not what we see in the text. No viewpoint characters ever conciously returns F-Iron or F-Brass for weight or heating when removing their medallions - but those obviously continue to work as intended. Ditto with Allik and the Connection medallion. A (normal) Coppermind is tied to the feruchemist and retaining those memories when no longer in skin contact with the Coppermind is part of their own investiture remaining with them. They put the memory there, they removed the memory, they re-store the memory (or not). Medallions have their own Identity - so tapping a medallion is using a foreign investiture. Is it possible that using Intent somebody could retain the borrowed ability? That's unclear and we expect more info in Era 3. What is more clear is that removing the medallion also removes the ability because the Medallion has it's own Identity and the power is part of the Medallion, which is simply Connecting the power to the medallion-bearer temporarily while that Connection remains. The Medallion, based on current known information, is not puting the power on the person's Spiritweb - which is where it would have to be for them to keep the power after contact with the medallion is lost. Just like Rashek's death, he was tapping Investiture inside the AtiumMinds and could not longer tap that once the AtiumMinds were removed - a Medallion (and therefore the Bands) Bearer is tapping the Nicrosil that is in the Medallion to access the powers the medallion has - but tapping it does not remove that from the Medallion and attach it to their Spiritweb (that's why Hemalurgy requires body penetration and contact with blood* - to Connect the power directly to the Spiritweb) - it's just access while they have contact with the Fabrial. How Does Hoid Know Tress's Thoughts?
Treamayne replied to Usseewa's topic in Tress of the Emerald Sea
Not sure if you like behind-the-scenes information or not. But, if you do, you may want to check out the Annotations. He has write-ups on his site for Elantris, Era 1 Mistborn and Warbreaker (he wrote the chapter-by-chapter annotations while doing the copy-edit for the books and explains a lot of information like why he chose what he chose). That was where Slowswift was revealed, for example (Mistborn-HoA Spoilers): Hope that helps -
How Does Hoid Know Tress's Thoughts?
Treamayne replied to Usseewa's topic in Tress of the Emerald Sea
Being first written between World Wars, many asserted themes and allegory to those times - Wikipedia reference: Threrefore implying that even if a storyteller intends no larger lesson of a moral, culteral, ethical, etc. nature - does not mean those messages are not present. -
That depends on your definition of "useless" - A-Iron is much better to have for day-to-day life tasks. Also, we see how proficient that Kelsier and Zane get with both pushes and pulls, but we never had a Lurcher PoV to showcase how nuanced an A-Iron misting can get with practice (imagine a Lurcher as practiced with their ability as Breeze was in Soothing). A-Iron has a lot of potential, that just did not have an appropriate place in the Era 1 to get any screentime or development like the other Mistings received.

We have no direct WoBs on this yet. The closest we have is: So, since investiture resists investiture, and we know that: Breath Aura is a Physical Realm effect of Breath, which is a Physical Realm Investiture (as opposed to Divine Breath, which seems to be on all three realms) Shardplate is opaque to investiture on the Physical and Cognitive level Shardplate is not opaque to Spiritual Realm effects Therefore, it is likely that an Awakener in Shardplate would not display a perceptible Breath Aura, as long as there are no breaks or missing pieces of Plate. But, like the WoB on removing the Helmet making a Shardbearer susceptible to Emotional Allomancy, if they remove part of the plate (or it is broken) then a Breath Aura could probably be perceived (though, likely dampened). Hope that helps

I enjoyed P:HM. Not quite as good as Martian, to me; but significantly better than Artemis (which I finished but did not enjoy). Hope to see the movie eventually, likely on DVD.

Shardbearers, engineering and Hobbit holes
Treamayne replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It may just be one opinion, but I do not think that enjoying spoilers makes you scum. That, to me, is the whole point! Every person has their own threshold and we should respect those preferences (Avoid as default, unless otherwise indicated - then comply with the requested amount of detail). Makes sense. Did you read any - like WoK? Or just a few scenes from some books? Have you considered making or requesting a "playlist" (of sorts) with the best chapters/scenes for the information you are interested in? Also, have you considered using the Coppermind? For example, most of what we know of Metals in Fabrial Mechanics are from Epigraphs, so you could just read the collected "notes" (Epigraphs to Part 1 of RoW). Also, have you considered getting the Stormlight RPG books - even if you expect to never play (like me) you would at least have the data and information that is all collected - exactly like a Campaign Setting. Hope that helps -
Shardbearers, engineering and Hobbit holes
Treamayne replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
May I ask why? It seems you are very interested in Roshar, so why not read the series? No judgement, just curious -
Coppercloud has no bearing on this - Ruin is in the Spiritual Realm and is "talking" to the Cracks in the Spiritweb, also in the Spiritual Realm. The Cognitive Realm (where Brass, Bronze, Zinc and Copper take effect) has no part in it. Edit: The known WoBs I could find are here - but the answer has not changed. We do not know and Brandon expects to cover interactions like this in Mistborn Era 3. Speculation is speculation; there is no definitive answer yet.

Adolin "summoned" his plate that was in the same metal box with him - because it was being worn by Abidi when Adolin took it back. Yes, the throne room was surrounded by Aluminum, but the plate was not separated from Adolin by Aluminum. . .

Could a spren use an unkeyed and unsealed metalmind medallion?
Treamayne replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In what realm? Metal Minds require skin contact - so, Shadesmar = probably yes. Physical Realm - probably not unless you have a way to make the spren more corpreal. -
Shardbearers, engineering and Hobbit holes
Treamayne replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This already happens - Edgedancer Ch 2: Hope that helps -
Well, part of that depends on what is meant by "block a shardblade." Block, as in Parry? Unlikely. Copperclouds exist in Shadesmar and interact with kinetic investiture operating in the Cognitive Realm and trainsition to/from the Cognitive Realm. Block, as in "prevent summoning" - then the follow on quesiton becomes is it a Living blade or a Dead blade? A Living Shardblade, the spren is already in the Physical Realm and is just undergoing a state change from incorpreal investiture into physical matter investiture (godmetal) - but is not crossing realms. However, a Deadblade, the spren is in the Cognitive Realm and the Bond process links the Shardbearer's life (heartbeat) to the BladeSpren to help it cross into the Physical Realm and manifest as a Shardblade. It may be possible for a Coppercloud to interact with this process, but we do not have any definitive WoBs on the subject. The WoBs we do have: Hope that helps

Donning and Doffing living shardplate
Treamayne replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The spren follow their radiant around - In Oathbringer, we see Kaladin use the windspren that will eventually become his Plate to divert the highstorm Winds when he is Protecting the fleeing humans captured by the Singers in Part 1 (for example). Because they are following him in teh Physcial Realm, they also briefly appear in Shadesmar while he is on Notem's Boat. Shallan's Plate Spren frequently appear around her while she is drawing. For the most part, based on current known information, Plate Spren in the Physical Realm can only perform activities related to what type of Spren they are. Kaladin;s fly around because they are Wind Spren - and Windrunner Plate can fly to other people to Protect them because that aligns with Windrunner Oaths. We do not see similar things happen with Jasnah's or Shallan's Plate and what they might accomplish in the Physical Realm (as LogicSpren and CreationSpren, respectively) has not been revealed much yet. Hope that helps -
So, you may want to edit the Title with a [Support] tag (as linked above) to make it more clear that the point is to support to what extent the OP is accurate and/or discuss examples. I will say that from the outside, your first post does not imply what you have just mentioned - so many Sharders may think it is meant for a [Discuss] thread (which is about refuting and debating the topic - again, please see the linked Admin post). And, if nobody else has yet said it: Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Hope that helps.

Can you please explain what good faith looks like in your mind? Your initial post is simply a list of characteristics and the question of "is Kaladin a Jesus Allegory?" (paraphrased). Multiple people have responded to show that if there is an allegory it is not intentional on Brandon's part - and - that a similar list of characteristics can be made for many characters both in and non-Cosmere because Fantasy Tropes tend toward the same charactistics you are listing. I'm confused on what, to you, consititutes a good-faith or bad-faith post. Or even if this thread is meant to be [Support] or [Discuss]; because the thread title is not tagged for what type of thread you intended. If you would like to edit the thread title, just edit the first post to make that available. for more information, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for more info and some useful forum info and tips. Thank you for your time and consideration.

No reason to be sorry - it's an easy and common confusion to make.

Technically, no. Rashek was killed by a spear, Kelsier was killed by a backhand, then Rashek shoved the spear into his corpse. Doesn't change the fact that a Spear is associated with the Survivor's iconography. Hope that helps.
