  1. Congrats. Will you be posting (all or part) here once you have your grade?
  2. It should feel weird - because the Shard involved is only one factor that determines an MoI. Not even necessarily the most important factor, either: Major Shardworld vs Minor Shardworld (if a Shard is in-residence, things change drastically) The Planetary Identity Concensual Reality of the Inhabitants as a whole (society's cognitive identity) The Shard(s) involved For example: Scadrial's Planetary Identity is based on Mist (as seen by the form Shadesmar takes), Metal is the focus of Scadrial Consensual Reality (all three MoIs are "Metallic Arts" because of Society's Cognitive Identity) then the Shard's Intent comes in and "tweaks" those factors based on Shardic Intent: Preservation causes Allomancers to Preserve themselves by accessing an outside source of Investiture Hemalurgy "Ruins" both the power (Hemalurgic Decay) and the Practioner (Spiritweb Cracks - Sacrificial requirements to make Spikes) Feruchemy has elements of both (Preserving a trait for later use, that also suffers from Compression Decay when tapped faster than it was stored) When you turn that analysis to Bavadin - whose apparent MO is to take something from other's and make it her own (how Autonomy expresses itself) - then you see the Luhel Bond was changed into Sand Mastery and, because it is a Major Shardworld, has acceess to much more investiture than Drominad does; while Starmarks don't have enough information to really analyze yet. FotS, being a Minor Shardworld, accesses investiture as a setting rather than a "power" - but uses a Bond for this access (as there is an Avatar present). WoBs: Hope that helps
  3. We don't yet have enough information, but I don't think that Allomantic Steel/Iron are a "bubble" so much as that Connection occurs in the Spiritual Realm where space and time don't matter. Aluminum's effect is like a "bubble" (or a Copper Cloud - since that is a similar effet, but in the Cognitive) and if the Spiritual Connection can get through the interference than the Physical Effect of Iron/Steel (which is linear) will still occur (reduced by the interference, as appropriate). Relevent WoBs were in the first post (quoted below). Hope that helps.
  4. I think the WoB sounds more like "If you spike Savant Tin - the spike receiver does not gain Savant Tin" not "You cannot spike the investiture that created the Savant nature."
  5. Well, it's an old enough topic that starting anew would be better than Necro-posting. I just wanted to make sure you havd a chance to read the previous chat on the topic. That said, the SHARDER FAQ has tips on searching the forums . . . . . . In this case - Koloss in Thread title, searching topics in Mistborn Forum and Cosmere Discussion And I had a leg-up since I remembered there was at least one topic on the subject to find.
  6. Previous discussion on related topics can be found here if you want to read them - example: Hope that helps
  7. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Interesting theory - but Dusk is the one with two bonds and Sak is the one with the ability. Possible, but not knowing what ability other Ravens get (IED Ch 15) makes it hard to analyze. That said, I think it is either: Patji intervened, so Sak received an ability speficically to help Dusk achieve Patji's goals Sak is not a Raven; instead is a related, but different, subspecies of Corvidae (and First of the Sun biologists have not yet mapped enough of the frozen southern continent to realize a separation of Species) Hope that helps
  8. Oh, my bad Thanks for editing the post - you can also be more generic when it is not plot relevant (e. g. SA Spoilers) The reasoning is, how would a reader know if it is safe for them to read the spoiler box if it is not labelled? - - - - - - - - - - YMBASW. . . you call out a Women's Script tattoo at work just to see the person jump for it to have been recognized.
  9. Yes. One of those two things happens - and which one occurs depends on the size of the bolt, the proximity of the Aluminum and the thickness of the Aluminum.
  10. That's what my answer addressed. For example: Metalborn - 1mm thick Aluminum sheet, 1ft x 1ft on a table - 1" industrial steel bolt on a table Metalborn - 1mm thick Aluminum sheet, 3ft x 3ft on a table - 1" industrial steel bolt on a table Metalborn - 1mm thick Aluminum sheet, 1ft x 1ft on a table - 1/8" steel hex bolt on a table Metalborn - 1cm thick Aluminum sheet, 1ft x 1ft on a table - 1" industrial steel bolt on a table Metalborn - 1cm thick Aluminum sheet, 1ft x 1ft on a table - 1/8" industrial steel bolt on a table All of those examples are going to have different levels of interference. Ex 5 will probably not form a Steel/Iron line at all; Ex 1 will probably be able to pull/push with some loss of force or latency to get through the interference, Examples 2-4 will be somewhere inside that spectrum from "Slightly more difficult" to "Not possible". But because each of those factors (size of the obstruction, thickness of the obstruction, size of the target) matters - there is no single blanket answer. Line of sight should not matter at all - because Steel/Ironlines (likely) work on Connection (implied by Era 2 and SA RoW) we often see Allomancers pull and push on objects without line-of-sight. Wax even turned it into tracking targets through walls. What matters is can the MoI "Connect" to the target, then influence the target. Most of this will be covered in Era 3 - since Brandon has said that's when Scadrians will really start applying the Scientific Method to the study of the Metallic Arts. Hope that helps
  11. Depends on the size of the bolt and the thickness of the aluminum. Aluminum acts as interference that way, so if there is enough interference, then nothing will happen - but if there's little interference (like aluminum foil) then it's just more difficult and less powerful. WoBs: Emotional allomancy is happening in the Cognitive Realm - allomantic pulses are washing against the Cognitive Identity (what, in M:SH, Kelsier saw as a vague Vin-shaped mist shadow but on Roshar shows as a glowign heal-less flame). Due to consensual reality about the head being the seat of the mind - protecting the head in the physical realm also adds interference in the Cognitive Realm (because the aluminum also has a Cognitive Identity;(SA Spoiler) Mist on Scadrial, beads on Roshar). It's similar to the effect of a Copper Cloud - because the interference radiates in all Realms. Hope that helps
  12. What about years later? Discussed in the SHARDER FAQ and the linked Forum Policies. Some threads are meant to continue (even after a long absence) - but most (especially book threads) it is preferred to start a new thread and either quote or link the previous threads. Sherma Main's technique is one acceptable method. You are allowed to express whatever view of Moash you want. But with topics like that (and a few others) - Forum search is your friend. Starting the 23rd moash thread this year will not gain you much sympathy - no matter what your opinion is. The Cosmere Q&A is robust anddesigned to easily find common questions that have been answered previously (if once or dozens of times). In fact, the forum search system is rather robust (and, of course, has a whole section of the SHARDER FAQ dedicated to teaching how to use it). Hope that helps
  13. As shown in Oathbringer, and further explained in RoW - it seems that Oathgates are a Fabrial made from Inkspren (with added investiture to grow very large) - possibly Inkspren and Lightspren (Reachers) - as both have access to the Surge of Transportation. We do not yet know everything about how they were formed, so there are some questions that remain, but they do appear to be the same material as Soulcasters and Shardblades. Hope that helps
  14. Welcome. Thanks for letting us know what you have read in the Intro Post. Please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Not sure about unwritten rules, but the Written Rules can be found here. Let us know if you have questions.
  15. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips, including how to search and post WoBs.
  16. BLUF: No. Most healing in the Cosmere (like Gold) is based on making the Physical Self match the Spiritual Self - but your Spiritweb knows how old you are (or should be - just ask Rashek) and many of those things are a normal part of aging, so Gold would not see it as something that needs to be healed. It's a normal part of your Spiritweb. WoBs: Hope that helps
  17. Resonances are about changes to the spiritweb from at least two powers interacting and affecting each other (similar to how a Savant is changed by overusing one power and that warps their spiritweb to a detrimental degree). It's not a math problem - in that, for example, Jasnah wielding the Dustbringer Honorblade would develop a Resonance of Transformation and Division just because she has access to both surges that do not normally combine. It's not likely unless she was only using those two surges for years. It's about consistantly using more than one power so that, over time, both applicable portions of the spiritweb for powers are slightly altered and affect each other or affect the weilder. A Misting or Ferring wielding the Bands could, in theory, develop a Resonance if they were only using one other ability constantly. As a IRL example - let's say a person studies Calligraphic Chinese Characters. They put in hundreds to thousands of hours practicing stroke order and writing characters over and over. That method of writing will begin to change their normal native-language penmanship. Developing one skill affects other, related skills. In the Cosmere it so happens that this is about moving Kinetic Investiture based on the spiritweb and repeatedly doing so with a small amount of skills can affect the skills in that part of the Spiritweb. All of that said, we expect to get much more about Resonances in Era 3, as Scadrial begins applying Scientific Method to studying the Metallic Arts. WoBs: Hope that helps
  18. For Era 1 Mistborn, need to go to the OG that inspired Zimmer - Graeme Revell. . .
  19. Bright = New Posts Faded = No New Posts - Exception - Forumless "links" like Arcanum and Time-Waster's Guild Archive are always Bright, because there are no posts to be marked as "read" which would trigger the alternate shading. Hope that helps.
  20. Does your browser not underline and change color for links? This is what I see (the post in your Intro Thread is bottom of Page 1): Hope that helps
  21. Did you click the link? It a post that you missed in your Intro thread with a Link to how to request AoN. . .
  22. My Syl: I do not know if it will ever be resurrected - but @Koloss17 has made a few stabs at Cosmere themed UB Fan-set: Mistborn Magic Set and Revisited PS: Did you get your request for Aether of Night sorted out?
  23. Example image compiled from your Intro post - A Member Title (red box) is self-defined. Most leave this empty, but it can be whatever you want - serious, humourous, other (just do not break any Forum Policies) A Reputation title (blue box) is derived from your Rep points - for more info please see: SHARDER FAQ - Reaction Section Most recent rank list Gripe or Boast here What does Rep mean to you (poll) Example: Hope that helps
  24. SHARDER FAQ - Half way down has a whole section on Editing posts: That said, please use the three-dot menu on the very first post of the thread to Edit that post. Above the post window will be the Thread Title, which can also be edited (second example is the Reading Recommendation thread, because I cannot display editing your post): Hope that helps
  25. You can change the title - edit the first post and the title can be changed while in the Edit display. Please see the SHARDER FAQ for editing tips, and much much more. The reason why we avoid spoilers on thread titles is because they display on the main page, so you would be effectivly spoiling the climax of Era 1 for people who may not have read Mistborn at all yet. Thread Titles should always avoid spoilers. Okay, thanks, I understand now, but I still wonder about how Preservation can make someone be able to burn his opposite's Godmetal. Lots of discussion on this - please see the SHARDER FAQ for tips on searching both these forums and the Arcanum (WoB Database). Please note that what the Scadrians refer to as Atium in Era 1 is not pure Atium (which, as a GodMetal, anybody [any allomancer, any Scadrian unclear which version of "anybody" applies] should be able to burn, not just Mistborn and specific Mistings). WoBs: So, basically what happened was that Preservation, to prepare his Gambit, replaced Cadmium and Bendalloy (since Scadrial had not discovered these metals yet, and he needed to replace Temporal Metals) on the Allomantic Table with his Atium alloy (Atium/Electrum) and Malatium (Era 1 Atium alloyed with Gold) to enable it's use as you see in the books - preserving (see what I did there) the Sign of 16 - which Leras expected to remain a significant number (Ati ruined that part of the plan). When Sazed ascended to Harmony, he restored the original metals (regaining the lost part of Ruin that was trapped in the false alloy produced by the Pits of Hathsin) which is why there are no Mistings for those metals any more. Note: an "Atium Misting" was never actually a Misting for Era 1 Atium - but actually an Electrum Misting which was able to burn Era 1 Atium because of its Electrum Content. For more, please see: Era 2 Missing Metal HoA Inconsistency Things I am confused about Allomantic Silver This is the first time I have ever head "Hathsinium" - is that your term? Brandon advocates using either Era 1 Atium and Atium - or - Atium and Pure Atium as paired terms to differentiate the Stolen bit of Ruin's power fed thorugh the investiture cycle in Hathsin Pits (and therefore adulterated with Electrum) from the Pure GodmMetal of Ruin. Hope that helps.
