  1. The only WoB we have on this that I found:
  2. Much of it is also crafted by Brandon this way on purpose. The average reader doesn't need to know the mechanics of Shardblade bonding to enjoy the story - but the mechanics are deep enough for the people interested to learn, if they are so inclined.
  3. The Gemstone is what facilitates a bond between the Shardbearer and the Deadeye. WoR Ch 67: It's also why the mechanic from WoK Prime is no longer Canon (in Prime, you could steal a Shardblade by breaking the attached Polestone and adding your own instead). WoBs: Hope that helps
  4. Keep in mind that "Awakened" and "Awakening" are not synonymous. Awakening is the MoI of Nalthis where objects are given a semblance of life with BioChrimatic Breath, color, and a Command Awakened is a term for items with some level of Sentience or Sapience through investiture (because Investiture seeks sapience on its own) So, Awakening can create Awakened objects, but it is not the only method to do so, as most MoIs will have a way to reach the same realmatic effect. WoB: So, it was not necesarily through Awakening that the Safe in TLM, Father Machine (Yumi), or the Metalminds of Sunlit Man were Awakened. A gemheart may be unlikely if it is still part of a living being, but may be more viable than other options on Roshar, because of the investiture cycle of Roshar that means Light dissipates from objects holding it. Even better will likely be Perfect Gems that are Awakened to automate and manage complex Fabrials.
  5. . . . when you make a Cosmere Crossword, just to see if you can. Sorry, it's not quite right. Had to slightly break pattern. . . Also, had to dig deep for some words to fit.
  6. Sorry. You posted in: The Admins moved it to: Two separate boards, both in the Spoiler Zone.
  7. For a deadeye blade, the "10 heartbeats" is a manifestation of Connection and, as we see with Adolin in Oathbringer, is not an immutable factor. Realmatically, what we beleive is happening (pieced from clues, but not yet described in detail in the books) is that the Bonding Gem is forging a Connection between the Shardbearer and the Shardblade (WoR) - which is why summoning and dismissing the sword still works when the bonding gem is Dun (can't be Dun during bonding). Once the Connection is established, the 10 heartbeats is a manifestation of perception[1] for the Shardbearer sharing themeselves with the Spren to pull them through and manifest as a Blade. Likewise, with a stonger Connection, Adolin summons Maya during the Battle of Thaylen Field in only seven heartbeats. I would guess that if a "heartbeat" wasn't a viable factor for the Shardbearer[2], then some other perceived "symbol of life" would become the primary driving force to estimate the time it takes for the Deadeye to transition realms into the Physical and manifest as a Blade. Hope that helps [1] - Like in WoK, Szeth would not have needed 10 heartbeats for the Honorblade, but he did because he believed he did. [2] - Dysian Aimians have been Radiant and wielded deadeye blades - with hundreds (or more) gemhearts amongst the hive it is likely some other factor is primary.
  8. Or, we've been here so long - we learned it all the hard way years ago. . .
  9. It is some type of machine. Good Catch. WoB: Hope that helps
  10. You may be interested the Cosmere 101 thread and this Github tool, by the Shard's own Paleo and Jofwu. The tool has selectable options for what books to display, levels of connection (significant, easter egg, etc. - Screenshot example below w/ SA and Elantris WoK Easter Egg shown) We don't know - but we do have this WoB: I think it has already been moved for you. FYSA: Just saying "Vasher" would make your post belong in Spoiler Zone > WaT (Cosmere) because Vasher is not a name he uses on Roshar - so it is Warbreaker Spoilers for people that have read Stormlight but not Warbreaker. The same applies to the normal Discussion area (or after spoiler period ends) - please use Cosmere Discussion for any post/thread referencing two or more stories/series. If posting in a Specific Board (like Stormlight Archive) - any reference that was not in a Stormlight Archive book needs a spoiler tag (e. g. Zahel:fine - Vasher: Spoiler tag) Hope that helps
  11. If I had to guess, based on known information, I would think Brandon would assign Quadrants to the Meridians (but probably not use all of the Meridians, and/or all points on the Meridians) so, based on the above examples - the Stomach meridian bind points would be one quadrant, and Kidney would be a different quadrant (with the bladder and spleen (not pictured) being the other two quadrants) - placing all four metals in the ribcage area but different points in that area. The same could apply to Meridians like Heart and Liver, whose primary points are in the arms and shoulders. Example: Hope that helps
  12. It can't be the Horneater Peaks - the local Shadesmar is not comprised of Beads. TLM Epilogue 6: It can be Horneaters, already outside of Roshar's Shadesmar, but stuck somewhere else.
  13. The Inquisitor table is . . . for Inquisitors. WoB: Have you looked at Acupressure/Acupuncture maps? There are likely many many bind points between the ribs. Perusing my Encyclopedia of Dim Mak, I see points in the intercostal spaces in Major Meridians for Bladder, Kidney, Stomach, Spleen, and (sparse) Gallbladder. Examples (nude sketch warning): Note that the examples share the same intercostal space, but the distance from the spinal column defines the point's location within that space. Just because that was what was known at the end of Era 1, does not mean that those are the only options. Also, some of the Bind Pints are likely to be in the Dorsal (back) intercostal spaces; but for a spike that pierces all of the way though, you could probably reach both Ventral and Dorsal points from either side. We only see two abilities from the unnamed Cycle (F-Pewter and F-Gold) so we don't even know which, if either, the Trellium spike was. Or what the function of the Trellium spike was, if it was not one of his stolen Metalborn powers. We do know that Vin used a Bronze Earring and had Double Bronze for her bindpoint - but Wax's steel earring didn't grant powers - mostly because it had so little charge remaining, but also possibly because it wasn't the correct bind point for the metal - but that point doesn't seem to matter for a simple Connection without gaining an ability. So, using a Trellium Earring may not matter that the Ear Bindpoint is for Mental Quadrant powers with a non-Mental Quadrant spike. The Connection is formed even without the power being allocated. Hope that helps.
  14. Do you mean MoI (Manifestation of Investiture)? Probably, but remember that MoIs on non-Shardworlds (worlds where a Shard is not in residence) is more of a Invested Environment situation. WoB: I do not think we have an official term yet - many still call them Threnodites. Probably the closest English equivalent would be Chile / Chilean; so i would probably go with Canticlean (can tik lay an) myself, until we have an official term. We do not have this answer, that I can find. It seems more like a seeping that the person starts, then stops "when it feels right." It could be incremental (0.1 BEU, 0.2 BEU, etc.) or a percentage of available heat to the person (1%, 2%, 3%, etc). We simply have no data from which to extrapolate yet. Hope that helps
  15. Keep in mind that Fain Life has changed with the various versions of Dragonsteel. In Dragonsteel Prime, Fain is very different from the Skullmoss and other Fainlife described in things like Liar of Partinel. So, we do not know exactly how Fain Life will be in-canon when those stories are finally written (but we did see a Kandra interact with a Sho Del). That said, I can see your theory fitting the Second Iteration of Fain Life, as seen in Liars of Partinel (and the associated WoBs). Hope that helps
  16. Welcome to the Shard. Thank you for your Intro Post to let us know what you have read. Your friend deceived you (likely it was unintentional) as elements of White Sand connect to Roshar, Lumar (Aethers), and Scadrial - not to mention every Ars Arcanum for every Cosmere novel. Consider checking out this thread on the various ways to enjoy White Sand. Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips, including searching both Coppermind and Arcanum. This is likely the wrong forum for this post. Q&A is for questions with discrete answers to make it easy for new readers to find a specific answer to specific questions, while limiting Spoilers. Theories and discussion belong in the Discussion Boards - Spoiler Zone for any new works still in their spoiler period, or Cosmere Discussion / Non-Cosmere Discussion, as appropriate. Within Cosmere Discussion, please use a specific board for single book/series content - or use Cosmere Discussion Forum for any posts involving two or more Shardworlds/Series. You seem to be under the impression that Brandon views a Node as a "smallest unit," and I do not think that is the case at all. I beleive his use of "node" is more in the engineering/axial sense (see below) where, if each person's spiritweb is the "node" then the lines of connection are what ray out to other people, places, things, concepts. That does not preclude the spiritweb itself as being more complex inside the "node" (as it will need to be made up of sDNA, Ideal Self, spiritual characteristics like Spiritual Age, etc.) We obviously don't really know how all of this will come together, because he has RAFOed most Spiritweb discussion for Eras 3 and 4, as the various Shardworlds start applying the Scientific Method, and come to understand Realmatics better. Hope that helps. WoBs:
  17. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Glad you are enjoying the stories. In case you want to edit your poll, please be advised that: Stormlight Archive is Cosmere (Not sure why you have Cosmere separate) Mistborn is Cosmere (Not sure why you have Cosmere separate) You are missing Reckoners You are missing Rithmatist You are missing Legion There are also a few unconnected short stories and novellas In the Cosmere, you are missing Elantris Warbreaker Secret Projects The various short stories and novellas It is much closer to Sci-Fan than Sci Fi - you can read the associated Novella Defending Elysium free on his site, if you want to try it to see what you think without spending money (Minor Spoilers):
  18. I find no Fullborn in Mistborn Era 1 or 2. Era 1 uses "Full Mistborn" a number of times. Era 2 uses Full Feruchemist 4 6 times, notably: (I apparently accidentally counted search pings, not word instances - since some were in the same paragraph) We'll have to see how the terms morph in the time lapse into Era 3, since: Era 1 used Misting, Full Mistborn, and Feruchemist; but not Full Feruchemist Era 2 used Misting, Ferring, and Full Feruchemist Era 3 ? Hope that helps
  19. Their skin is golden and metallic (in the right light), as is their hair. He may be thinking of Rira (Evi's homeland) which is mixed race and has skin that is not metallic (faintly golden - like a tan) Ref and WoB: Hope that helps
  20. Do you mean this section (Day 2, Ch 33): I'll compare to my hardcover tonight, but the epub does not quite match what you posted (if that is the section you mean).
  21. Power and level of investiture are not the same. Like Vasher explains in Warbreaker - Awaken an Napkin or a cloth cut into human shape and they will do the exact same thing - but the square napkin will require about 4x more Breaths to make work. Law of BioChromatic Parallelism Keep in mind there are at least two different mechanisms that reach this result, but they are not similar amounts of Investiture Large amounts of Investiture, left alone and without a vesel will seek Sentience or Sapience. This is seen in Spren and Seons, etc. The fact that they are entirely investiture does not equate to how powerful an entity they are. Awakening creates a fake soul for an object - that's how it functions. So Nightblood is Sapient and would be even with less investiture (at creation he only had the original 1000 breaths and was already Sapient. This ties in to why he can't remember being drawn (WoB Below) We do not yet know how Awakened Metalminds are made - and if they are using a Feruchemy process, Excisors, or some non-Scadrial Process. There is. . . ish. It discusses the Bands - as a non-Sapient object (and not as a comparison to Nightblood) Hope that helps
  22. As @TwinStorm said, it's mostly straight-forward. Fourteen books and one Prequel. You can either Start with The Eye of the World (Book 1) or New Spring (Prequel). I don't know anybody that has read the Prequel before Book 1, so you may want to read that after the first book or 2 (it was published after Book 10, but written to be enjoyable at any point in the series). There are also deleted scenes content from the Unfettered anthologies, but both of those are best after you finish the main series (as both pertain to the last book).
  23. Plyometric Pushups (shoot for highest count once you have the motion correct) Pike Handstand Hope that helps
  24. Distance. If you recall in Book 1 (TFE) Ch 6, Vin's steellines are falling away as she walks down the street. If a nail 50m away is too far for her to push against, how would she be able to push against a planetary core ~3000km away? But there is also the matter of Perception. Do the characters (in Era 1 or 2) even know that the planet's core is/could be metallic? Would they consider it to be something against which they could push/pull? Hope that helps
  25. Just for clarity, it's Warlight, not Stormlight. WaT Ch 146: Like TowerLight, it is likely that normal Radiants can use WarLight as well. However, like Towerlight, it will probably not hold as long or be as efficient as Stormlight (except, possibly, for Enlightened Spren Bonds).
