  1. I think most of this is treating Shard, Vessel and Manifestation of Investiture as if all three were synonyms. I do not think that is the case. Hemalurgy has specific effects becuase of the way it rips of a splices chunks of spiritwebs. That happens to involve Ruin's investiture on Scadrial - but it's a feature (bug) of Hemalurgy - not an Effect of Ruin's Investiture itself. Kor encourages increased speed of evolution (using the high-investiture environment provided by Highstorms), but that is not necessarily indicative of Cultivation - which was described as "all things that change." Ati was able to leverage Ruin's investiture to to speak into people's heads (as long as they were spiked or otherwise had enough Connection), but that was the vessel desperately trying to find a way to same himself from Preservation's prison. I think, stripped of Vessels, the core of Cultivation and Ruin can be complementary (or at least more complimentary that Ruin/Odium which is still more complimentary than Ruin/Preservation) but that does not mean in any given vessel they would be complimentary. Basically, a greater potential for synergy exists in this pairing - but that does not mean that potential would be realized.
  2. It's possible - especially since we do not yet have the full "story" yet. Most Shard/Dawnshard theories are (at least partially) based on this section of the Dawnshard novella: Hope that helps
  3. Discussion for specific other media IPs (book, GN, video, audio, etc.) belongs in Entertainment Discussion Do you also read LitRPG (since many consider this LitRPG adjacent)?
  4. It's a zip. Did you unzip the folder? The contents should be: Way of Kings Prime epub Way of Kings Prime Mobi Way of Kings Prime PDF MacOSX folder for using these files on a Mac If you need an unzip tool, 7-Zip is one of the best (and its free) with PC, Mac, Linux and Portable versions available. There is also this page for the ebook - but I believe it is the same download zip file. Alternately, there is this page for the Audiobook versions.
  5. Minor Spoilers for WaT: Hope that helps
  6. Correction - RoW Ch 88 is only 15 months before the current RoW Storyline (Roshar only has 10 months - please see Rosharan Calandar Essay for more info, if needed) That said, also please note that in WoR I-1 - Venli does not actually have a Stormspren yet - she only "found out" that the secret to Stormform was a Storm Spren. I think there was more time between WoR I-1 and I-4 than you think. Regardless, it's a good catch, and something great to discuss. Thank you.
  7. Nope. Wasn't the original plan, but after some changes with books 2 and 3, he tried to go for the Ketek. . . but couldn't quite make it work. WoBs: Hope that helps
  8. Most likely the second - Pewterarming increases like this are based on the square-cube law(?) (as discussed in WoA) so the additional mass would likely severly inhibit the ability to leap and other body-weight based feats of strength. (?) SCLaw may not be the correct reference here - but @DrPhysics or other specialists could verify/clarify. WoA Ch 6: More interestingly, it's likely that the same (or related) Realmatic processes are being used to increase physical strength in these situations. Which could either make the secondary benefit redundant, or could possibly make it stack like an A-Pewter Misting with an A-Pewter Spike (much like Vin's increased Bronze due to her spike). If stacking, there is likely a diminshing returns effect limiting how much increase can be accessed this way.
  9. Sounds amazing. Can you confirm you used Arborio rice? (Arborio matters because it releases more starch in the cooking, which is that helps it hold together). My technique for Arancini is to chill the risotto, form it into balls then freeze. Coat it after it's frozen and right before frying (by going into the oil semi-frozen, the center doesn't overcook and it's less likely to break apart). Hope that helps
  10. You are going to have to Source your information here - we have no indications that Larkins didn't originate on Roshar. In fact, because they have Gemhearts and require a Nahel Bond to grow, the indications that they are native to Roshar is strong. Is it possible you are thinking of the Sleepless? We know that they are not native to Roshar, and the original Sleepless on Roshar when they first arrived (and those still on other planets) are much more spider-like. WoB: Larkins are not Dragons - but they were inspired by them: Hope that helps
  11. Unlikely, for two reasons: Most Spren (including Wind) predate the Shattering So far, all spren appear to be based on either Cognitive events (emotion, thought) or Natural things. For there to be a "Spren" of a Spiritual Realm event, one or more Shards would have had to create Splinters based on the event - which would weaken themselves, which seems very unlikely with the original crop of Vessels.
  12. The primary reference for most of this is the Non-Canon Dragonsteel Prime. But, if you have read everything Cosmere except Warbreaker, you should have already seen a dragon in-story (Tress of the Emerald Sea). Also, Cultivation's Vessel was a Dragon before taking up a Shard; and some of the Epigraph Letters are from a Dragon (Frost). Dragon WoBs (excerpts below) Hope that helps
  13. No, Inquisitors are no longer human. Their organs are not in the same place as a human. HoA Ch 41 Epigraph: Hope that helps
  14. How would it contradict the Intent? The Allomancer is Preserving themselves through application of external investiture. (Preservation isn't about preserving itself - it's Preserving others; and spent investiture isn't lost, it goes right back to the Spiritual Realm that it came from anyway.)
  15. I'm not sure what happened to your fonts. Fixed in the quote. I feel like you may have the wrong interpretation of Intent. It's not about Person A convincing person B to do X. Intent is mostly, for example, you can't accidentally invoke an invested art. For Example, Adolin did not accidentally create a Hemalurgic Spike from his dagger despite killing Sadeas by stabbing him in a Hemalurgic Bind Point - because Adolin doesn't know about Hemalurgy and, therefore, had no Intent to create a Hemalurgic Spike. Szeth, in WoK required 10 Heartbeats to summon an Honorblade because his Perception was that it was needed, so his Intent required 10 Heatbeats to summon the blade, even though that is not normally required. WoBs: Hope that helps
  16. Not entirely Correct. Feruchemy is of both Ruin and Preservation, but predates Harmony by a few millenia. Feruchemy expresses Preservation by saving a Ferring's attribute to use at a later date. Feruchemy expresses Ruin by entropic decay of compressed traits (and a small amount lost in the transition of storing and tapping) End Positive, End-Neutral, and End-Negative have nothing to do with Preservation or Ruin - they are external to the Shards. The Connection is the other way - Preservation's art is End Positive because End Positive is the power structure most in line with it's intent. Other arts like Surgebinding and AonDor are also End Positive and have nothing to do with Preservation. Likewise, Hemalurgy being End Negative because that best expresses Ruin's Intent but other arts like Dakhor are also End Negative and have nothing to do with Ruin. Hope that helps
  17. Minor Correction - We see Spook start to develop Savant effects from a metal he has burned every day of his life since the age of five and flaring every waking moment for over a year since Clubs died. The Rashek comment wasn't about taking a century to develop 1 metal - it was because Rashek had eventually become a Savant in all 8 Era 1 base metals. . . over a very long time (and I doubt he had even one day flaring a single metal as much as Spook did each day for the year after Clubs died). Conversely, we see how often Wax used both of his metals, but he was not nearly a Savant in either of them. Not all downsides will also be physical - but you are right that some metals have less of a (noticable) negative effect. Well, there are kind-of two different resonances with the Radiant Orders. There are the "merged power" abilities that come with two specific Surges. Examples: Kaladin can use a Reverse Lashing - but because it is a combination of Adhesion+Gravitation, neither Dalinar nor Szeth would be able to use a Reverse Lashing Shallan is able to add physical effects to her Illusions because that is Transformation+Illumination, but neither Jasnah nor Renarin would be able to do the same Separately, we have the "Order Resonance." While we do not have specific data yet, I believe that is part of how the Orders were perceived. Windrunners may have more Squires, but not every Windrunner gets excess squires (Lopen has no known squires, for example). Lightweavers may have Mnemonic abiltiies - but it does not seem like every Lightweaver has a version of eidetic memory as seen in Shallan - and some just a different memory feature (Stargyle and colors, for example)
  18. Well, the hardest part of Savantism is using enough Investiture to become a savant. It is nearly impossible to becme a Savant in Feruchemy at all, and is only possible for Compounders because they can burn their metalminds. The crux of my point was: If you are burning enough F-<metal> to become a savant for that; you are not likely burning enough A-<metal> to also develope a resonance (Such as Miles - he was an F-Gold Savant, but did not have an A-Gold/F-Gold resonance because he did not burn enough normal gold to develop a synergy) If you are burning enough A-<metal> and F-<metal> to develop a Resonance for the two powers, you are not likely burning enough of either to become a Savant in either. The only reason Raskek was able to become a Savant in multiple metals was because he had 1000+years to do so, and started further along the path than others because of how he gave Allomancy to himself with the well. Yes. WoB: Which was followed up in TLM with the scene of the Set Coinshot also being able to use a Steel Bubble.
  19. I'm not yet sure how to search for an @ mention. I used the author search to search for an SU that you wrote with that keyword. The system does not seem to "see" the name in an @ mention flag. Or, I just do not know the correct setting. You may also get some traction on just searching SUs posted "last 24hours" (with or without setting a minimun number of comments).
  20. I think it is supposed to feel slightly "off" - because it's an indication of how Taravangian interprets the combined intent - not how the combined intent would naturally align. I think we are supposed to have a raised eyebrow at this, because it foreshadows future problems to Harmony's (whose problem wasn't the interpretation, but the failure to combine intents at all). It's also telling that Ret's Rhythm is Rhythm of War/WarLight not Rhythm of Retribution. WaT Ch 146: Admins and mods can weigh-in, but it should be fine because it lacks any other data to indicate a Shard name (so only those that already know would get the reference).
  21. Out of curiosity, how have you tried searching? Example: Not saying it's good, as I do not use SUs and don't really know - but a quick search found SUs Also, please keep in mind that there are many things the Admins simply cannot do. They can access the current Invision version (see bottom of any page) and whatever tools that provides for customization - but things like the "all or nothing" for alerts are an Invision setting they cannot change. You can go to the Invision Community site and make your voice heard there for changes you want them to make in the base software for a future release. Hope that helps
  22. Please take Theories to the Discussion boards (Mistborn or Cosmer Discussion). Q&A is for questions with discrete answers (not that the answer is always agreed upon) to help new readers, Discussion boards are the places to theorize, guess and . . . well, discuss.
  23. Bitte
  24. Right, but they are effectivly trading Resonance for access to Savantism (if that is desired). If you are burning both Allomantic <metal> and Compounded F-<Metal> you may develop a Resonance, but if you are burning F-<Metal> for compounding almost exclusively, then you are likely to develop Savanatism. With the exception of near-immortals like TLR, it's probaly unlikely to ever develop both in a Twinborn.
  25. We do have some WoBs, but not much information: Hope that helps
