Physical Illusions Mechanics + Questions
Treamayne replied to EdgedancerJacob's topic in Stormlight Archive
The WoB implies this is not the case: Standard Brandon doublespeak - but the implication is that some Truths are progressing her Bond with Pattern, and some Truths are reconstructing broken oaths with Testament. Likely best example: Hope that helps- 9 replies

Physical Illusions Mechanics + Questions
Treamayne replied to EdgedancerJacob's topic in Stormlight Archive
No WoBs on it yet that I can find. Oddly, while it seems there are 3x as many announcements as there used ot be, there are less-than-half as many opportunities for Q&A and WoBs.- 9 replies

Important Reminder About Signatures
Treamayne replied to #1 Taln Fan's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
It was already answered above (Second/Third paragraph - depending on if you count the first one-liner as a paragraph) More to the point, if you are going to need a "click" to see the information, it's just better (less clutter, saves space, less scrolling) to link your about me page and put all the info there. -
Physical Illusions Mechanics + Questions
Treamayne replied to EdgedancerJacob's topic in Stormlight Archive
I do not, I think it's like a Reverse Lashing (Adhesion and Gravitation) - a merged surge that requires access to both Illumination and Transformation- 9 replies

Maybe memorize was the wrong term. I'm sorry. I memorize what information is available and how to find it. We discuss those things in these forums so we can understand what might be implied by what we have learned. For example - how Investiture is a third axis of reality is a memorizable WoB: Understanding that the Mists on Scadrial are investiture in a non-Matter gaseous state, while Shardblades are Investiture changing forms into a Solid matter state (thourgh Deposition - which is why they have condensate when they appear) comes from a combination of WoBs and much discussion (and some disagreement). For visual Learners, you can do something like read the Coppermind Intent article or search for all WoBs tagged with #Intent. I have done both of those, but I don't really assimilate the data until I start collecting it and answering questions about it or discussing it, because the act of putting it together and explaining it is what helps me remember and understand. I hope that makes sense.

Realmatics is the Cosmere term for the underlying aspects of how Investiture and Magic work throughout all of the Books. For example: Why Steel is an External Pushing Metal for Allomancy, and can "Push" Spore growth on Lumar, and creates Repulsing Fabrials on Roshar when a Steel cage is used with a Gemstone. How Command is not just a part of Nalthian Awakening, but is part of how Soulcasters function (commanding the Change) and also was the part of the Reverse Lashing Kaladin didn't understand until RoW (See below) Fortune, Connection, Identity, Command, Intent, etc. there are all fundamental Realmatic processes - not every Manifestation of Investiture uses all of the aspects, but they all will use some combination of these fundamentals. RoW Ch 49: Hope that helps

To be fair, she also did it in Oathbringer (Ch 120). It may not be a Fourth Ideal thing, so much as practice with the powers and understanding the Intent to pull it off. (Mistborn Era 2 Spoilers)- 9 replies

Space-Age Singers & Storms [speculation & discussion]
Treamayne replied to Armadillo's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Unknown, but it would have to be a Splinter capable of forming a Nahel Bond, so it does not seem likely without some additional steps (like Connection, possibly). -
Each Shard has Strengths and Limitations, just as some Vessels are also better or worse and understanding and interpreting what they see with Fortune: Nope. I actually don;t "follow" any threads or topics. I do, however, peruse new posts in Casmere and Spoiler Zone 2-3 times a day - and if I see questions I can answer, I try to do so. I have the ebooks on my Computer in Calibre, which makes searching for text much easier - and I have been searching WoBs and Coppermind long enough to know the tricks to finding what I need (which is why I wrote the Sharder FAQ)
-
The key there is that Ruin's E1Atium is a very short and limited glimpse at Fortune (Futuresight) and lends itself to combat (therefore destruction/Ruin). The intent of Ruin does not lend itself to the Future because it wanst entropy and destruction . . . things to not exist in the future. Preservation's Intent lends itself to using Fortune for Futuresight because Preservation is all about keeping things and Preserving them for the Future. I don't think fortune and destiny are different. And yes, almost every thread question I have posted (lots of theories) @Treamayne has commented on and cleared up. the Ultimate cosmere obsessor. I think he's following like every cosmere forum or something. I'm not sure about that Fortune/Destiny thing actually. the coppermind's article on Fortune hints at destiny being different but there is no article on destiny, so who knows. We don't know for certain. We only have one RAFO WoB - but keep in mind that those comments are in-world because Scadrians in Era 2 don't even really understand how they work yet.

Passive Fused Abilities (Plus specifically the Fannah-im)
Treamayne replied to Teravangian's topic in Stormlight Archive
I did not say "every surge" I said Soulcasting. Soulcasting works because the Radiant is, mechanically, rewriting the Spiritweb of the thing to be changed (which is why the change happens so fast, once the spiritual nature changes, the effects sweep through the Cognitive and Physical Realm) WoB: Hope that helps- 7 replies

Space-Age Singers & Storms [speculation & discussion]
Treamayne replied to Armadillo's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Freely available investiture. The Nahel Bond creates a template between the Singer and the Spren in thier Gemheart - the rest is like Healing - the free-investiure of the Highstorm provides the power source for thier body to change and match their new Spiritual Ideal (which is a combination of sDNA for the Singer and Form provided by the bonded Spren). To be able to change Form off of Roshar, they would also have to have appropriate Spren available (likely in a Gemstone - like the RoW Flashbacks) All things for Spoiler Period material need to remain in the Spoiler Zone. I've reported this thread to the Mods so they may be able to move it for you - just keep in mind the Spoiler Policy requirements when making new threads please. Please see the Sharder FAQ for this and more helpful information. -
Fortune, Connection, and Identity are Spiritual Realm Traits (like strength and senses are physical realm traits, and emotion is a cognitive realm trait); all Shards deal with all of those traits, though in differing amounts each (which is why Preservation was better at Futuresight than Ruin - Preservation had greater acces to Fortune due to the Shard's intent; Ruin had limited access to Fortune due to that Shardic intent). Shardblades cut living beings Spiritually (not all three realms, which is why somebody blade-dead has burnt-out eyes, but no physical wounds) and do not affect Identity. Healing a Blade Wounds is accomplished by using investiture to "graft" a patch repairing/replacing the damaged section (it's a bit unclear because the WoB is discussing both Shardblade Wounds and Hemalurgy, but the damage each causes is different - Blades sever the Spiritweb but don;t remove anything, Hemalurgy ripps a chunk of the spiritweb and removes it). Nightblood is the one that cuts on all three realms - which is why things destroyed by Nightblood dissolve into smoke (with the only known exception being Rayse's Corpse because Nightblood had consumed too much investiture to finish consuming Rayse). Hope that helps

Passive Fused Abilities (Plus specifically the Fannah-im)
Treamayne replied to Teravangian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Soulcasting requires changing the Spiritual nature of what is to be Soulcast, and I doubt that can be done without expending Investiture. Another aspect of the passive abilities is that they always only affect somethign about the fused themselves (e. g. Heavenly ones must use Voidlight to lash somebody or somethign else - even a single lashing). For Fannah-im - it's the Surge of Transformation. I would guess the passive ability is to always see/sense Shadesmar and the Physical realm at teh same time - so while Jasnah, Venli or Shallan must be holding light to "peek" into Shadesmar, Raboniel either sees it all of the time, or withever she wants (which would explain why she so-easily discovered Sibling communicating through the Garnet Veins).- 7 replies

Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. That's correct, no change of focus and no missing information. But the text does make it clear that the one line you mentioned "why would he have needed armies to conquer" is Vin's internal monologue, rather than just her thoughts - it's her speaking to herself to reason out what happened. Aona was the vessel of Devotion - killed by Odium. Seons are Splinters of Devotion. Aons are named after Aona (as is the language - Aonic) Skai was the vessel of Dominion - Killed by Odium. Skaze are Splinters of Dominion. We do not yet know how/if Skai was tied to Fjorden or the Fjordell language.
-
It is one of the oldest WoBs - from 2011 (note that questioner is wrong about Skai back then - who was the vessel of Dominion): Didn't disagree. The power also liked Sja Anat's expression of disagreement. RoW I-2: Like a recipe, not every ingredient has to be Odium-adjacent for the power to "Like" the mix of all of those things. Just because Bravery was one of the emotions Taravangian was experienceing does not mean that Bravery is part of Odium's intent - Odium's intent is, partly, the strength of the emotion felt, and the very strong mix of "Hatred, fear, anger, shame, awe. Bravery." includes at least the Primary intent and three adjacent emotions - all expereienced very strongly. WoB: Hope that helps
-
But, my earlier point was that it is equally wrong to imply that Odium is all emotions - Love, for example, belongs to Devotion. In the quote you reference: That list is the emotions Taravangian expressed in the scene - not a list of emotions conneted to Odium (bravery, which likely belongs to Valor, gives it away - as referenced below). I think of it as a venn diagram - Odium's intent is Hatred, but also includes those strong emotions that intersect with that circle. More than hatred, yes. All emotion, no. All Passion, also no. Hatred adjacent passions, yes. RoW Ch 113:
-
Those WoBs are less about assumptions than they are verbal linguistics. Examples (some he mentions "playing along", some not - both for comparison): Hope that helps

Unfortunately we don't have this information yet. . . mostly because Brandon is waiting to more fully explain BEUs in future books. TSM was simply a glimpse at how applying the scientific method to Cosmere Manifestations of Investiture (MoI) will change the terms used and how they are applied. The only current WoB on BEUs is: So, while we know that a Drab is below Cosmere average, and a Nalthian is above that average, we can guess 0.5 / 1 / 1.5 BEUs for Drab / Cosmere Average / Nalthian with a single breath - but that is not confirmed. It could just as easily be 0.75 / 1 / 1.75 (or any other fraction of 1, 1 , 1+ that fraction). And we can only guess that a measurement of 50 BEUs is roughly equivalent to Nalthian First heightening - but even that is not accurate, because not all breaths are equal. From the Warbreaker Annotations: Hope that helps
