[OB] Oathbringer chapters 31 & 32
Toaster Retribution replied to Mestiv's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Nightblood is his own thing entirely. Shardblades are from Honor, Voidblades from Odium. Nightblood was created with Endowments investiture. -

[OB] The Group that Showed up with Jasnah
Toaster Retribution replied to Isaiah Zayth's topic in Stormlight Archive
He would probably not find people like Lift or Vivenna worthy of mention in that situation though. He doesn't know anything about them, and the important thing to him and Shallan is that Jasnah lives. Personally, I don't think Jasnah has Lift or Vivenna with her. Hoid is possible though, maybe a new Radiant, but not more. I want to see Mraizes face when learning of Jasnahs return though. -
[OB] Who is getting left out of part 2?

I think it may be confirmed that Adolin would have POVs in the later parts of the book, but I don't remember. @maxal you know anything about that? -
[OB] Who is getting left out of part 2?
Toaster Retribution replied to the_archduke's topic in Stormlight Archive
Amaram won't need POVs to talk about slaughtering Parshmen, so I doubt Kaladin would need them to talk about how bad slavery is. In fact, I can see Kaladin being more effective as an obstacle for Dalinar if he lacks a POV. Also, Part 2 was supposed to be lore-heavy. Kaladin isn't that lore heavy, really. -
We have talked a lot about morality here on the Shard recently. While Szeth, King T and Amaram are (somewhat) divisive subjects, no one seems keen to defend old Torol. So, is there anyone who feel that Sadeas, had he gotten to live, could have redeemed himself?
-
So, in the final Shallan chapter we get the idea that Unmade were people once. Sounds cool to me. Do you guys buy this as well? And how were they created in that case? And why? So many questions, and the answers are one week away.

[OB] Who is getting left out of part 2?
Toaster Retribution replied to the_archduke's topic in Stormlight Archive
The problem with Jasnah as a POV in Part 2 is that she will have the cover scene, and I doubt that will happen in the slow, lore-heavy Part 2. I think she will be the POV of her epic action scene. Personally, I think Kaladin should take a step back. I would be interested in seeing him as a background character for once. Also, Shallan has more going on, with Jasnah and the Ghostbloods. Kaladin has never missed a part before. I think it is time for him to step back now. -
[OB] Oathbringer chapters 31 & 32

I doubt Voidbinding is just copying. I expect some level of similarity, but also a lot of differences. For example, can the Fused summon Voidblades (I hope they can, it sounds cool). -

Thoughts (last time I'm typing a list like this): -I loved Kaladin saving people from the storm. Beautiful scene. -The parshmen Kaladin abandoned will come back and haunt him. Either they will die as a punishment for his actions, or they will return as extremely angry Voidbringers. -Speaking of Void, those flying Infused has to be using Voidbinding. Voidbindings version of Gravitation I guess. -The yellow spren liked Kaladin. Huh. -Humans helping the free parshmen are not unheard of. Wonder if Kaladin will find old slave friends with the Voidbringers. -Kaladin returned to Urithiru. Huh. Looking forward to see his reactions to Malata, Sadeas, Highprince Amaram and Re-Shepir. -Jasnah is back. So much for roadtripping with Hoid. Hopefully he got to Urithiru too. -
[OB] Hoid, Taravangian, and Amaram
Toaster Retribution replied to kmosiman's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think situation is what should be evaluated. I think the goal of the person is the most important thing. Amarams and King Ts goals are good for humanity in their eyes. I think Hoids goal is good for many in his eyes too. Judging people based on the situation they cause seems wierd, since mistakes and stuff outside their control can create a situation they didn't want at all. Also, Hoid can't kill people. We cant give him free pass because of that. If Amaram had wanted to kill Kaladin, but been unable too because Kaladin had gone for a vacation in Rall Elorim, we would still judge him for wanting. Would Hoid kill people if he could? I dont know, but it isn't unlikely. -
As a Stone Shaman, I make myself Truthless, with my own Oathstone, and takes all the Honorblades.

I love it, one of the best MCU movies. It doesn't really have much depth, but it is a masterpiece anyway just because of how fun it is. Korg is a standout. I also liked Lokis arc in the movie.

The fact that modern Kelsier is OP is another good argument for going with FE Kell.

TFE Kelsier. We haven't seen the new Kell do anything beyond saying his catchphrase.

[OB] Hoid, Taravangian, and Amaram
Toaster Retribution replied to kmosiman's topic in Stormlight Archive
Personally, I doubt Hoid used hyporbole or something else. I think he was dead serious. But then, my post contains assumptions. One of them is that Hoid meant what he said. Another is that Hoids goal is something good. My point still remains the same. A big part of the hatred for King T and Amaram comes from the fact that we have mostly seen them do bad stuff, and rarely seen them being extremely likeable. @The One Who Connects I remember seeing you talk of Cersei before. What about her makes you a fan? Asking as a fellow supporter of a generally disliked character (Amaram). -
what do I read after the Stormlight Archives?
Toaster Retribution replied to qhizzle's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'd recommend doing Warbreaker first, for the Stormlight lore, then go into Mistborn, read all of those, and then go to the Sel stuff (Emperors Soul and Elantris). -
The thread title soubds like a fun game. "Pun, clue or coincidence?"

I know Zane was stronger in power, thanks to a spike, but I doubt he outskilled Kelsier or Vin. Same way as Elend was stronger than Vin, but Vin was way better because she knew what she was doing.

[OB] Hoid, Taravangian, and Amaram
Toaster Retribution replied to kmosiman's topic in Stormlight Archive
The fact that people take Hoids threat/warning to Dalinar lightly compared to King T or Amaram strenghtens an idea of mine. I think that people forgive much easier if they like the person they need to forgive. Most of us love Hoid, so we are willing to overlook and make excuses for him, despite the fact that we don't even know his goal yet. Our picture of Amaram, meanwhile, has been coloured by Kaladin, and he has had more of an antagonistic role. And King T is doing so much horrendous stuff that most people react against him. Characters in stories can get away with quite a lot, if they are charming and easy to like. Bronn in ASoIaF or Loki in the MCU are great examples. Kelsier is another good one. All of them do bad stuff, but they are beloved and forgiven nontheless. Sometimes, when I see Bronn confirming that he would murder a baby for money, or when Loki threatens Black Widow with a horrifying death, I wonder how I can like characters like them. Well, it is because they are charming, funny and likeable, most of the time. Hoid has that element to him, but neither King T or Amaram really do. King Ts goal is to save humanity. Lets say that Hoids goal is to save the universe, to get something similar. Well, they both have noble goals. And they both kill an awful lot of people with their proposed methods. Both dislikes the sacrifice, but they are both willing to do it for the greater good. Amaram tries to bring about the apocalypse. Hoid is prepared to burn a planet. Both dislikes the sacrifice, but they are both willing to do it, again for what they percieve as the greater good. Where is the difference? If we go purely by body count, Hoid would probably be the worst of the three (you could argue that he ties with Amaram, if Amaram fails to stop the Desolation he causes). The point is that they are all willing to commit terrible crimes, yes. They all have the destination in sight, not the journey. They all want that destination to be good, for all (presumably, in Hoids case). The difference between them lies in what kind of view of them we have gotten. From T and Amaram, we have mostly lies and murder, and not really anything fun or likeable. From Hoid, we have jokes, we have stories and we have instant noodles. He has been seen in a positive light. The same cannot be said for T or Amaram. Tl;dr: Its all about perspective. -

I considered this too. It might have to do with the fact that it is revealed early in the book, and thus the reviewer feels that it isn't a spoiler. Same thing as (Thor: Ragnarok spoilers: -
