  1. Its called Catch Me If You Can I believe :-)
  2. Wouldn't this imply that all birds in the Cosmere are able to bond humans? Oh, and also, the aviar get their magic from parasites. Couldn't you make very, very small spikes and spike the parasites instead of the birds?
  3. This depends on how much speed Marsh has stored. If he has a big enough amount, he could essentially be the Flash, and run circles around both Raoden and Dilaf. And you don't need to be the Flash to outspeed Dilaf either. A Steelrunner would probably not have that hard of a time outspeeding a Dakhor monk.
  4. True. There are others who are deserving of a prologue as well however. And I think that Sadeas, Amaram, Elhokar and others have more interesting things to offer, both character-wise and plot-wise. But as you say, we can never know. I also have to admit to a bit of a personal bias here. I am more interested in Sadeas, Amaram and Elhokar than Navani. I find her quite boring to be honest.
  5. Mraize when Shallan shows him Amarams maps.
  6. May Shallan steal your boots.
  7. Simple: which characters do you hope to see facing down in a fight? Personally, I'd love to see Mraize fighting Jasnah. Or Graves vs Amaram.
  8. The Stormlight Archives as told by Sadeas.
  9. I was planning to say Marsh, but @asterion137 made some very good points. Some things in favor of Marsh though: -A decapitation/headshot should instantly kill Raoden. And I think that you could argue for the Elantrians having some sort of super-heal when they were on fire, because it was in that moment they completed their transformation. So the heal might not be as powerful at all times. -If Marsh doesn't know Raodens powers, Raoden doesn't know Marshs either. Because of that, emotional allomancy might surprise him enough for Marsh to get the edge. -Raoden draws Aons quickly, but I doubt he is fast enough to create a shield against a Steelrunner. I think that Marsh has the potential to win here, and I'm voting Marsh for now.
  10. I would be surprised if Hoid wasn't on the feast. Probably dressed as a beggar. Hoid likes beggars, for some reason. I dont see what Navani could add though.
  11. This sounds good. This might also explain why Kalak feels kind of scared and weak in the Prelude. I have wondered about that before. He doesn't seem to be Resolute in a good way in that scene either. What speaks against it is that Taln seems to be very confused because of the torture. We see him recalling it in his POV.
  12. Mistborn: ASoIaF: Harry Potter: Also, for fun, the Warcraft movie:
  13. I have only read the first Kingkiller, and I found it an enjoyable read, with truly awesome prose, and some interesting plot points. But for me ASoIaF takes it. First off, I love huge scoped epics, and so ASoIaF is definitely for me. Second, I love the complex plot, and the phenomenal world Martin has created. But one of the major things for me are the characters. I didn't find Kvothe to be that great, tbh. Not Denna either, or any of Kvothes friends. Devi, Elodin and Bast were the ones I cared about the most, and I still didn't think of them much when I was done reading. I feel like the people of ASoIaF are more complex, more interesting, cooler, and more likeable. Stannis Baratheon is one of the most brilliant characters I have ever read. Jaime Lannister is wonderfully complex. Robb Stark is a great twist on classic fantasy tropes. And that is just three people. There are a lot of others, including minor characters so minor that they were cut from the show, who I love. U I heavily disagree with this. Yes, ASoIaF is dark and grim, much more so than Sanderson or Kingkiller. But it isn't depressing either. There are beautiful moments in Martins series. There are genuinely good people. There are redemption arcs. It shows that bad can become better, that redemption is possible. Everyone loves to say that all the good guys die, and all the baddies live, and that no one is a good guy. None of it is really true. There are good guys who are still alive. Those who have died this far are mostly those who in a classic fantasy story would have been the good guys, the heroes, the knights in shining armor. And not even all of those are dead. The "no one is a good guy" part basically means that: 1. No one is all-good in this story. Everyone has faults. 2. There are so many different sides to cheer for that no one will feel like the ultimate protagonist, the good guy that you follow in other stories. Yes, ASoIaF is dark and grim. But there is light in it too, and Darkness-Induced Audiece Apathy is (in my humble opinion) not at all fitting with it.
  14. I do believe that Taln would be exempt from the general madness of the Heralds. That said, Taln is mad as well. But I believe that has more to do with two thousand years worth of eternal suffering and torture than the breaking of oaths.
  15. Thanks cowman!
  16. We could try to find a dark-skinned Ryan...? In all honesty though, I agree, Galladon is canon black, and I think the actor should be too. Dunno who though. DeObia Oparei maybe? Also, btw, @Nathrangking Alfred Molina is my fan cast for Suit lol, but I guess he could do Eventeo as well.
  17. Does Wayne mean anything in english? I know what Wax is, but I dont get Wayne? Can someone explain the pun?
  18. I don't know if this has been brought up, or in that case how much, so I'll throw it out here: When discussing the Heralds, and their madness, a lot of people seem to think that the traits of the Heralds have reverted, and turned into the opposites of what they were. So, for example, one of Nalans traits are Just. By the existing theory, his madness should have made him non-just (I know that aint the word, but my english isn't the greatest). But Nale isn't non just. He is actually just to an extreme, and obeys the law by the book, in all cases, no matter what. This makes him unjust, in a fashion. Nales other trait is confident. But he is not. He is, in fact, confident to a fault, since (Edgedancer spoilers): So my idea is this: the madness hasn't made the Heralds traits become the opposites of what they were before. If they had, Nale wouldn't have cared about the law, and he would have lacked any kind of confidence. Instead, the madness has made their traits become extreme, and as with all cases of extremism, this might sometimes make them become opposed to the original traits. So, I have now presented my theory, and my idea about Nale. I'll throw out some ideas about some of the other Heralds, and how their extremism might manifest real quick: -Shalash: She was creative and honest before. Might be that she is now creative to such a degree that she wants a completely new kind of art. She wants real creativity, not just the same old paintings and statues. So she destroys the things that are not creative or original enough. She was also honest before. Baxil mentions the danger of asking her prying questions. Might be that she would rather harm/kill someone than actually lie in response to a question. -Jezrien: He is protecting and leading. A bit like Kaladin, Jezrien feels like a failure every time he fails to protect someone, which is why he drinks. To wash away the pain. -Chana: We have not seen her as far as we know, but her brand of extremism could prove very interesting. She is brave and obedient. Her bravery would basically turn into total recklessness, with no regard for her own safety. Her obedience would end up turning her into a very submissive person, who follows her orders no matter what they are (like Szeth in a way). -Kalak: The guy is supposed to be resolute, and a builder. I propose that he is resolute to an extreme, and that the resoluteness takes form in his guilt and fear. He seemed to be a pretty anxious guy in the Prelude, and felt guilty when breaking his Oath. He is now extremely resolute in the fact that it was wrong. So, what do you guys think? Am I on to something? Am I partly on to something? Am I dead wrong? Maybe even mad? Thoughts please, if you have any!
  19. Plot twist: Adolin kills Kaladin to get Shallan.
  20. @maxal I doubt Hoid had any deeper meaning behind it. He just wants to tease and irritate everyone. He wants to make jokes. I also dont think that we should expect Hoid to be aware of Adolins true feelings toward Shallan. Sure, Adolin tells him hands off, but that is probably not something he says uniquely about Shallan, at least not in Hoids mind. Furthermore @Calderis I doubt we can blame Hoid for the love triangle. Kaladin started to like Shallan afterwards, in the chasms. People generally dont need remarks from other people in order to fall in love. I think that Kaladin would have started liking Shallan without Hoids comment.
  21. GRRM and Brandon are pretty different from eachother. I think that a lot of Brandons audience might prefer more Brandon-esque works. GRRM and ASoIaF are pretty far from that. If you went over to the ASoIaF forum and did a similar thread, you would probably get a very different response. I doubt Brandon would get that many votes over there.
  22. Do you like dragons?
  23. Tindwyl. I think she could teach me stuff I'm interested in learning. Would you rather pick up Ruin or Odium?
  24. This whole not-human anymore deal is pretty much why I want someone to ask Brandon what Bavadins original race and gender was, before she picked up the shard. When it comes to the OP, it seems like Rayse = Parshendi is disproved by multiple sources. Rayse was human, and now he is a Shard.
