If someone doesn't have anything good to ask, I am kind of curious about what Hoid thinks of Ruin and Preservation merging into Harmony. So feel free to do that one.

[OB] Shalladin isn't as bad of an idea as you think.

Mraize would slit his throat while he was asleep. Shallaraize is my new ship. -

I honestly don´t think Adolin would survive that. -
Probably because he for some reason chooses not to use surges when fighting Lift, who does use surges. We have never seen him fight someone who actively tries to kill him either. Lift only tries to escape, and her surges and natural skills are very good for that. I´d say that if Nale fought with his full capabilities, And also, he keeps on besting Lift, who uses surges and only tries to escape, with basically a Blade and a knife, no magic used. That is still kind of impressive. That said, let us hope we get some good Nale fight scenes vs some Stone Shamans.

Nale, Nalan, Nin, Darkness, Inspector Javert, whatever you want to call him, is our (not so) beloved Herald of Justice. He is a pretty interesting guy though. He went back for his Honorblade, when no other Herald did. He was also the last one to accept patronship over a KR order. As if that wasn´t enough, he also carries Nightblood around. So, my question is simply if anyone has any interesting thoughts on Nalan? Why he went back for his Blade. Why he didn´t want to accept a KR order. Why he has Nightblood?

I will vote Cardbringers for the awakened parshmen.

Ruin defenitely isn't evil. He just want to fast-track the ending to get to the good stuff. -
Evil In The Stormlight Archive
Toaster Retribution replied to Stormrunner1730's topic in Stormlight Archive
My opinion is that very, very few people are evil, both in fiction and in real-life. Most people try to do what they think is the right thing, which is what I feel about Amaram, Taravangian and Szeth. Short opinions on all three: *Szeth: Szeth has been brought up in what seems like a strict religious culture. He feels like he has to follow the codes of his homeland and religion no matter what. Some people have a very hard time breaking religious or cultural rules (I can have a hard time with this sometimes). Does it excuse killing? No. Does it make Szeth evil? No. *Amaram: Amaram has religious problems, just like Szeth. I read his character as someone who thinks that returning the Heralds would be good for everyone, which is why he does it. When you believe in a God, you tend to think that his words, laws and rules are important for everyone to follow. Amaram probably wants to bring religion back to people, for what he thinks this is their own good. It doesn't make him evil. *Taravangian: I honestly don't get why people call this guy evil. I can understand Szeth and Amaram, even though I disagree with it, but not Mr. T. He truly believes that his actions will save humanity, and is prepared to sacrifice both himself and others for this purpose. He tries to go about it with as few unnecessary casualities as possible, and in from his point of view, he is sacrificing himself as well, by commiting horrible crimes in order to save mankind. Neither one of these three wants to hurt people. Szeth feels extremely bad about it and wants people to kill him so that he doesn't have to kill others anymore. Amaram wishes that he didn't have to kill Kaladins men, and mourns the deaths of all those who will die during the Desolations. Taravangian hates his actions, and considers them sinful, and try to damage control as much as possible. This is what it comes down to for me. Acts can be evil, but acts doesn't define human beings: we are far more complex than that. What defines a person for me is what he/she wants to achieve. Is it something they think will end up helping people? Is it something they think is ultimately good? If the answer to that question is yes, then they aren't evil. As long as they want to do good things, they aren't really evil (maybe misguided, but not evil). This stops Amaram and Mr. T from being evil in my book. And as for Szeth... I would consider him a weak-willed person, maybe a coward. But cowards are cowardly, not evil. Disclaimer: I am not a Son of Honor, nor am I a Diagramist. I do not share their views, nor do I support their organizations in any way, apart from thinking that the Sons of Honor has a pretty cool name. Oh, and I also find it funny that people dislike Amaram and Mr. T for their actions, while ignoring the fact that Mraize is willing to turture teenage girls "for fun". -
Thanks! I may be prolific, but you have an excellent post/rep ratio :-) You are not the first to think so, but no, the name isn't a cylon reference. I had never heard of cylons before @Calderis alerted me to their existence. There was a thread about creating your Cosmere names, and Toaster Retribution came out of that.

Is It Right For Dead Shardblades To Be Wielded?
Toaster Retribution replied to Stormrunner1730's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think I read somewhere that it pains the dead spren to be summoned as Shardblades. Take it with a grain of salt though. -
First off, welcome to the forums! Nice username! I think they will arrive during Oathbringer, and that their arrival will be an important part of the Shallan-Ghostbloods storyline. I hope it happens soon, since I'm missing Mraize. I think it might take a while though. Jah Keved and the Shattered Plains aren't exactly close to eachother, and they also have to avoid the Everstorm. I'm sure they will arrive safely though. Mraize feels like the kind of guy to hire competent goons. As for their reaction to Shallan being a Radiant... well, I would assume that they have gone through so much that nothing really surprises them anymore.

[OB] Is the Everstorm a Good thing?
Toaster Retribution replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe... that might be the end of his arc, if Brandon wants to write him as a tragic character. -
[OB] Predictions post chapter 13-15 release
Toaster Retribution replied to Wax's topic in Stormlight Archive
I hope we get a bit more on Roshar World Politics, and some Adolin murder investigation. I would love to see Shallan sneak around as Veil too, but I think that is for the week after next. Am I the only one who would be okay with waiting one more week for Kaladin? -

Who do you want in an Interlude?

Great post. I never cared about Baxil, but you brought up points that would make another Interlude from him interesting to read. -
[OB] Is the Everstorm a Good thing?
Toaster Retribution replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is probably because Shards aren't capable of evil. They are not really alive. They are forces with one defining character trait, and act from a vessel which picks them up. A force can't really be evil. -
[OB] Ok. What is going on with May aladar?
Toaster Retribution replied to Steeldancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
This makes sense, but she has been mentioned a whole lot without her father, so it feels like we are building up for something. That said, it may be that May is just Aladar worldbuilding. The murder victim is an interesting idea. If Brandon wants to keep on having Mr. Copycat around, he will eventually kill someone who we know about. I doubt it will be a major character, probably not even a semi-major one. But if it is someone whose name most people actually know, there will at least be some element of surprise into it. Also, the Alethi might have stronger reactions to a young woman being murdered than they had to the murder of middle-aged men. -
One easter egg which I am hyped to see explained is the Letter. It is written by Hoid and Frost, neither who are native to Roshar. Most of us are buying that Brandon can explain Hoid, but how will he go about working Frost into everything? And the other things that are name-dropped in there... Skai, Bavadin, Aona... that might be an unresolved mystery for non-Cosmere fans.

Is It Right For Dead Shardblades To Be Wielded?
Toaster Retribution replied to Stormrunner1730's topic in Stormlight Archive
If I recall correctly, summoning dead Shardblades is basically the same as torturing the dead spren. So... yeah, that is immoral, if you are aware of the effects. -

Toaster Retribution replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
I never hear someone mention Baxil, unless they are talking about Shalash. Do you want him because of her, or just because you found him interesting? -
I would welcome you here, but you have been here longer than I have, which makes welcoming you kind of wierd, so I just settled for an upvote :-)

Crap, I missed Torturer of Heralds... oh well, now I'm a Svrakiss. Yay?

Pattern should seriously get an award of some kind. Also, wonder if Nightblood will interest himself in human relationships as well? That would be... interesting.
