Mestiv, also known as Codebringer the Catlike has one Breath, although it's equivalent to 2000 standard Breaths. Fittingly his rank is Tarachin Superstar

"Upending an Entire Mercantile Ecosystem"

... Now I have thought more about this, I see a way. Of course. Ventures. Imagine ten lesser Ventures going on for the inspection of the Pits. Nine come back. The worldhopper goes worldhopping with the merchandise - some fine knives, a few pocketwatches (such an intricate mechanism! Save for Rosharan fabrials, we haven't seen any other machine to show time in cosmere) and stuff like that which is easy to hide under the clothes. Actually getting in the Pits is not much of the problems - guards are there to stop people from getting out. In that case worldhopper getting to Scadrial waits for his Venture contacts to visit the Pits and then blends in. This still doesn't solve the problem of what he is smuggling on to Scadrial as it has to be somehow concealed. -
Shallan cannot enter fully Shadesmar. What she does is more of astral projection. Meanwhile Elsecallers can fully step into Cognitive Realm; we don't know whether it's due to them having both Surges related to accessing Shadesmar or it's just Transportation thing (in that case Willshapers should also be able to fully enter Shadesmar).

IIRC 'death words' worked by inflicting injury to the opponent (efficient injury like cutting the nerves or things like that). Stormlight can heal those things on the fly. Now that anything directly offensive is rendered useless by Stormlight regeneration, the question is whether Kaladin can get close enough for the kill (as in melee combat it's one Shardblade hit and it's over). The question boils down to who's magic is gonna run out first, really. Eragon can try to hold Kaladin down, but he can try to overpower the spell by sheer Stormlight-assisted force (trying to move or just using Basic Lashing). Given how stupidly massive are magic resources of Paolini mages (seriously, they are supposed to cast spells using up the energy their bodies can generate and that's not really much)... Eragon's gonna win. Unless we're talking Shardplate which could probably interfere with other magic...

And now for a riddle:

I've seen Ghost in the Shell (1995) last week and Ghost in the Shell (2017) few days ago. I wouldn't call the adaptation bad... but it wasn't good either. It was hitting me over the head with info (and the original was way more subtle like it should have been. Seriously, the opening scene is putting a brain into a robot body. I think you could spare me how much the future it is and that they have brain implants and stuff. You don't need me to tell me that three more times). It had some plotholes. And essentially it was quite a different film. I think I prefer the original.

Yeah, I know what you mean (that's a thing IT people have, along with counting from zero (although I had that bracket thing even before programming, just from math).

I went and searched for WoBs where Brandon is not speaking of the in-world theories. Here you go: Before you go "Aha!" on that one, I want to point out that the ambiguity of the term comes from the fact that we call Threnodian Shades Cognitive Shadows, we call ghosts like Kelsier or Leras or Stormfather Cognitive Shadows and we call Returned and Heralds Cognitive Shadows - those are all different beings and that's where the ambiguity comes from. But the explanation is not ambiguous.

So I just finished reading it and I have a couple of questions. If the answers are in the next books, please say so and don't give the answer itself. Why Bastille and Draulin don't wear Warrior's Lenses? IIRC they were used only once when Kaz needed to run faster. But Bastille has used them in the first book just fine, why isn't she doing it now? Why isn't Kaz an oculator? I got the impression that while every Smedry has a Talent, only those of the main bloodline can be oculators. But if Alcatraz is from the main bloodline, so should Kaz, right? Also, if you can get Smedry Talent by marriage, why aren't Smedrys polygamous? I'd expect them to enter into purely formal marriages with the Crystin that are assigned to protect them, especially those with useful Talents (totally not thinking of it because of the Ship Tease indicated when Alcatraz got distracted by Bastille while trying to fly out of the pit trap. Totally >.>).

Not true. It's about sharing the same focus. Allomancy is of Preservation and Hemalurgy is of Ruin and you can still burn a spike (however we don't know what would happen as Brandon gave us multiple contradicting answers).

I also remember a passage about Death Rattles, something like "the surgeons are starting to talk of weird things the people say when they die" or something. It could have said something about the time they started. There's also this WoB but it's not helpful: Brandon didn't correct or react to the assumption they were going on since Parshendi were discovered but that's not saying us much.

Actually the Dalinar quote is from WoK or WoR but Oathbringer flashback excerpt also confirms Thrill pre-Shattered Plains. I also get the feeling that Thrill is something culturally grounded in Alethkar - this just doesn't feel like something that appeared only a decade or two ago.

"Upending an Entire Mercantile Ecosystem"

This should be the tagline of the 17thShard BTW, Roshar also has specific spices, maybe they also export them? Who can be in this interplanetary trade? Sel: nope, very difficult access except for seasoned worldhoppers like Hoid or Khriss & Nazh. Roshar: probably. Nalthis: probably. Threnody: unstable perpendicularities may be a problem. Could be. First of the Sun: nope, extremely dangerous perpendicularity. Taldain: Nope, sealed off by Autonomy. Now, Scadrial... That one is weird. We know the primary perpendicularity were Pits of Hathsin. But they were kinda full of people searching for atium geodes and then there were guards up there. How did lone worldhoppers get out (except Hoid who can Lightweave) not to mention merchants who would need to carry stuff? 'Turn away! This site is closed and guarded! Who are you and what do you want?' 'I just need to ride in with all my merchandise and carry all of it into the Pits. Don't mind me.' Now, we know people in House Venture were in on it but it still sounds weird. -
I came upon a WoB that seems contradictory. We do know that Death Rattles started around the time that Gavilar started to explore the Shattered Plains, around the time he discovered Parshendi (as the footnote says). But we also know Thrill was present during the days of reuiniting Alethkar - Dalinar recalls feeling Thrill so strong he almost attacked Gavilar. The thing is, they only started to explore Shattered Plains after reuiniting Alethkar. Did I get something wrong or the WoB is wrong?

"Upending an Entire Mercantile Ecosystem"
Oversleep replied to Obnoxiousspren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The fact that the trade is interplanetary does not necessarily mean the goods are special in any way (discussed atium or Hemalurgic spikes). Perhaps it was simply metal and metal-crafted goods - Scadrial's metallurgy was probably quite good, as they can make alloys of specific percentages. Besides that, Scadrial's rich in metals while for example Roshar relies on Soulcasting it. On the other hand, Scadrial had food problems. I could see that Nalthian spices or whatever was viable for long transport would reach high prices on Scadrial. -
I also used to think that scenario "unknown disease - relatively unharmful to the ones who brought it - wipes out the natives" but somebody explained to me that the WoB up there means they're all just having running nose and stuff. Nothing serious but since Roshar is so healthy they are frightened by something like that.

Random Stuff X: Something Weird

That's my second Expanding Brain meme (the first was about contractions few pages back). I take them from other memes. Those other memes take them from older memes... I'm not sure where the images for the first Expanding Brain memes came from. Some sources suggest they were taken from various articles on transhumanism. -

Finding a WONDERFUL surprise

He told me "nice shirt" upon seeing my Cosmere symbol T-shirt. The next day he recognized me by it in the crowd before the Q&A and waved to me. I waved back and everyone near me looked at me and was like "oooh!".- 11 replies
