@Lord Bookworm, trellium is a fan name we coined. The premise is that it's a new Shard's godmetal and since it took on the name of Trell, we decided to call it trellium (because it's easier than "unknown godmetal Bleeder had"). Also, if you compare pre- and post-Catacendre Trell, they are not the same gods. The new one just took on the name, probably.

Random Stuff X: Something Weird

First anime is nothing worthy of concerning yourself with; Brotherhood on the other hand is faithful to the manga so it doesn't matter which one of them you go with. I never watch films that come with anime series, I see no point. And I thought live action movie is being only developed so it's not there yet? OVAs are usually not important, right? All in all, you only need to read manga or watch FMA:Brotherhood. -

Back in the day threads used to run out of pages, so we had to start new ones. The current 'what are you reading' is "part 2". With the forum overhaul there is no need to start new threads anymore as we won't run out of pages. Unless @Delightfully Smoak has a dream that new thread was created, of course. Now, for the big question: why am I explaining it to you? You joined more than two years earlier than me! I have only been around for 1.5 years! I've got no authority on 17th Shard's history! Stop reading what I am writing! Now! Stop it, I am telling you! Don't read the next sentence! -

It originates from Yolen, the planet the Vessels, Hoid and Frost are from. Hoid is Yolish Lightweaver. Khriss in WoR's Ars Arcanum says that Rosharan Lightweaving is similar to the original Yolish version. That's about what we know.

Uh... *drops a smokebomb* *jumps out of the window* Seriously though: I'll aks the rest of the crew about two difficult parts they asked and I can't make out and then I'll stop obsessively try to improve the transcript and post it. Promise. EDIT: *40 minutes later* So, both later and sooner than expected, the transcript! (tagging those who asked about it: @The One Who Connects, @Pagerunner, @Extesian - thanks for your help!) Here's the link to interview. (spoiler tag for length)- 196 replies

Random Stuff X: Something Weird

Totally out of my reach. I'm a Cosmere theoretist, I'm a TVTroper but I won't go nowhere near literary analysis. Even with ten foot Shardblade. Nope. It's not - the level of connections and stuff is nowhere near MCU. For starters, there are no Cosmere Avengers or anything of the sort. That's what I'm aiming at but when I look at the things I can say about background... it's either too little or too much, depending on how deep I'd go. -
There is something wrong with it. It tells me I won May 4th but when I click on it it shows Delightful had more: Edit: And then, if I manually choose the period between May 4th and May 4th it shows me yet something different:

If I were to - hypothetically - have a Sanderson panel on a con... what would I talk about? My main area of expertise is Cosmere. Target audience is people ranging from newcomers who do not know about Cosmere and have not read all of Cosmere, people who have read multiple series and know about Cosmere and people who have read everything and also are reading the Cosmere articles I wrote (which introduce Adonalsium, Shattering, Shards, Splinters, Slivers, Three Realms, Investiture, classification of magic systems, focuses/focii, healing... I've also analyzed Realmatically Feruchemy, Compounding and Hemalurgy; I've also covered all the worldhoppers apart from Hoid). It can't be too advanced since newbies would get totally lost, it can't be too basic or it would be boring for advanced readers. On the other hand, it can't be too spoilery because of newcomers. I have to talk for at least half an hour, more like 40 or 45 minutes. It can't be focused on specific series because people may have not read that one series, so it would be have to be something Cosmere-wide... Yeah, very easy, no problems with contradictory conditions, totally fine. I was thinking about Shardic history? Starting with Shattering, describing what we know about each Vessel (not much), a little elaboration on Intents and how they may relate to judeochristian God's Divine Attributes, explaining Investiture a little on the fly and then describing what magics have arosen from specific planets and Shards? (of course I cannot describe Scadrial too much because of its spoilery nature... Honor being dead is also kind of a big spoiler for Way of Kings, isn't it?... Describing Sel's magic is also kinda spoilery...) I'm double posting because - totally hypothetically - I have to describe what I would be talking about in the submission I have to submit soon (it would be best if I managed to do it in three hours or in the next 24h in general). -

That was funny, I think I'll check out that channel I did some reading on Celtic mythology bach when I was doing an essay on fantasy for my finals three years ago but I definitely need some more reading... -
Actually in modern times a wandering cosmic power came to Earth and told all living mages that it will take them off the Earth in a month. It was benevolent, so it did gave them that month to find new potential mages and initiate them. Then all the old ones disappeared as they was told. The plot starts five years later when the new mages are trying to organize themselves. I wanted to do a story of how all these magic organizations would came to be so that cosmic power is actually not relevant and without any bearing on the story (although one has to wonder what it needed all these magic users for... some cosmic war? it could be interesting one day...).

I know that much. I knew that some electric sources would glow brighter (power lines) and I thought it would scale with voltage. But you're right, it's the current. That makes more sense, I knew something was wrong with my thinking. But that presents the problem you described here: I could handwave it away with the character having really good at the sparksight... but I'd resort to those kinds of handwaves only if absolutely necessary. There is a scene where he uses his power to flashbang everyone and tosses in a smoke grenade to make sure everyone is properly blinded. Then he dives inside and takes down enemies, relying on sparksight to locate them. I meant heart attack. My biology-related vocabulary is rusty. From what I've gathered, he could stop hearts. That's good. The thing is, I need it to be non-lethal: he stops the hearts and later starts them. Is that believeable? How much time would he have to resuscitate them before their bodies started to die? Three minutes? Two?
-
So... I've got a question. See, I have a character with electric powers. He can use sparksight to 'see' electricity - electric current glows to him, so he can see the wiring in the walls et cetera. But would he be able to see living organisms? I mean, I know nerves pass electric impulses but the thing is I don't know how much voltage is there (because the less the weaker the glow is). I also remember something about heart being regulated with electricity. Also - is it possible to stop heart with electricity? Or (if not) to induce strokes? (EDIT: I meant heart attacks - my vocabulary sometimes misleads me) Because I have this scene in mind where he incapacitates opponents by stopping their hearts one by one and then, after dealing with the rest of the enemies, he restarts their hearts before they died.

We have confirmation it's non-Harmony metal: While this WoB: suggest that much like atium's additional property in Hemalurgy is "keeping the charge better", that of trellium is "hiding".

It's about 2020. So at best it's Twenty Minutes into the Future thing. Damnation, I already feel we're living in the future. Anyway, the thing is, magic is superior to technology. I mean, an average Soulsmith could take on a modern unit of military without much problems and in the past one could defeat way more enemies because they didn't have bullets. Regeneration is taxing. On the other hand, the magical prowess goes hand in hand with technological progress - there's a rumour going on that Soulsmiths are behind computers' origin since magic is similar to algorithmics. It's so much easier to teach someone magic today than it was in Middle Ages. You're assuming mages are good...? I always had problems with those kinds of explanation because I always thought "Surely there must have been someone who didn't think that way". I'm only at Summer Knight so I just started to get to know the White Council. I figure I could make an organization of mages which enforced Masquerade - they're gonna be gone by the time plot rolls around, every mage was wiped off the face of the Earth five years ago so if I'm starting everything from the scratch it doesn't matter if there was some organization or not. I'm doing a "nobody knows what was earlier" kind of thing anyway but sooner or later some ancient being which knew things back then will roll around so I don't want to invent on spot then.

So... kind of Romeo and Juliet kind of thing? -
So I've been doing some worldbuilding for my Soulsmiths and one person I've bounced my ideas off asked why no mage ever has gone and straight up took power? They're pretty powerful since the discovery of Soulsmithing and that have been around at least since Middle Ages. Once there were two brilliant Soulsmiths at war who reverse-engineered vampires and werewolves, respectively. So there has been some war but I imagine it to be rather secret war. Maybe a few cities has been killed off and written off as "plague". How to make it fit with the premise that mages did not took over countries? Those two could do that if they were not fighting each other. So far I've only patched it up with assigning the task of enforcing the Masquerade to the secret organization of assassins but that feels... well, patched up. Why no mage ever just went and showed off his magic and took the power and ruled ever after? If the answer is "other mages stopped him" then the question changes to "why no group of mages ever took the power". I'm not sure about some Magic Council enforcing that; either they're already ruling the world or the question "why no one has gone rogue" arises. And so on, and so on. Alternatively: how about "nobody knows how things went back then" and just drop the whole issue altogether?

Hussars were elite cavalry unit... so I feel not much, if any. But then I don't claim to be knowledgeable about history (I probably know more about Ancient Rome than some periods in my own's country history. I have strong feelings about how I was taught history and those feelings are not nice feelings). Anyway, Chmielnicki is rather seen in negative light by Polish. He's considered a hero in Ukraine. But we're getting into stuff I barely remember.
