The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

Thanks! My birthday was on Saturday. I'm not sure Shard showed it though. -
That would require destruction or a very, very significant change in the vorin society system (the male/female division of arts). Of course, we have female Radiants which are Shardbearers so that may open up a possibility.
-
I didn't mean soulcast metal. But yeah, that's totally doable too. You just need to Soulcast the gloves before putting them on.
-
Uh... How about: you can't use a Shardblade if you can't hold a Shardblade? Gloves from cast metal keeping fingers straight. Keep arms apart with stocks. There! A solution that is not humiliating to people who outrank 90% of the society. Apply additional measures as you see fit but I think this solution should - pardon my pun - cut it.

He was more of laughing at the time. There's audio for that in the Poland events thread.

Yesterday I managed to find some time to go to the bar with friends for a beer and play some board games! We definitely should do that more often. Not bad for a birthday -
And now I imagine Chaos putting a question in the test: @Chaos, I think edited version is even better ;P

As for combat: If it wasn't for Surgebinding, Dalinar could have outfought Szeth, Kaladin, Shallan etc. Now that he is a Radiant as well, he is back in the extremely dangerous category. Personality-wise, Dalinar is also extremely dangerous but previous posters have made the point clear already so I won't reiterate.

Alcatraz versus Scrivener's Bones

Did you just rusting spoilered me? -
Well, the main theory is that Compounding copper allows you to multiply memories, so you end up with copies. The coppermind medallion Wax was given pretty much confirms it.

So far we have no evidence that converting Investiture is possible. However, what Returned and Nightblood feed on is not Breath per se but rather Investiture (which Breath also is). So they can feed off of Stormlight. -

Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Oversleep replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
We - as the Sanderson fandom - are quite an exception with how everyone is so nice and civilised. Some fandoms I know of deserve nothing but a rain of napalm. Downpour of napalm. Flood-causing rain of napalm. For example, take Steven Universe fandom. Do I like the cartoon? Yes. Would I ban 90% of the fandom from Internet? Yes. -
Snapping is a mechanism that allows Investiture from external source pour into a person; in order to do that the soul must be cracked somehow. Enter the Snapping. There is no external source of Investiture in Awakening or Feruchemy so it does not need spirit to be broken. In Hemalurgy the Investiture is lost as the spike decays so it's not related to the user in any way.
-
As far as we know, only end-positive Investiture needs a Snapping mechanism. Therefore there is no Snapping required to Awaken. Well, near-death events are enough trauma to Snap people into Allomancers. So it would probably work for Radiancy too.

What book of Mistborn are you on?

Well, one day I could write that That would be a godsend. It's hard keeping up with the new stuff. Now I have thought about this, actually keeping a list of WoBs you have seen is not that hard. You just need to keep a list of lists: signing report + the number of the WoB. The actual hard thing to do would be making it so that if you just read up through WoB archive (and not the random through the app) it marks them as read.
-
Feel free to steal cannibalize use it in coppermind On another note, somebody said "people who eat WoBs for breakfast"... and I thought I could totally use a daily batch of WoBs to accompany my morning tea. An app that shows you random WoBs you have not seen before (that part is hard since it would need a way to mark what you have already seen - and copying the WoB archive is not feasible, so it would have to operate on the proper database and keep your profile with the list of WoBs you have seen already...). Next step would be random WoBs from choosen category, like "Scadrian WoBs" or "Hoid WoBs"...

Alcatraz versus Scrivener's Bones

Nevermind - in one passage Bastille is mentioned to be wearing sunglasses. Illustrations don't show it though. -
Well, it would probably have to be a godmetal of some Shard to begin with. Then it depends on (probably) what Shard is it (as godmetal's properties seem to be tied to the Intent of the Shard; obviously we have ridiculously small sample size but it seems to be a reasonable assumption). IIRC adamantium's schtick is being indestructible? (or nearly indestructible. Isn't vibranium also indestructible...?) So we need a Shard with intent tied to being hard to destroy or something that lasts (Preservation comes to mind). Let's say it's something like Persistence of Perserverance (or Endurance). I think Feruchemical property would be tied to toughness - you could store your body's toughness and become very fragile. Tapping it would make you indestructible (of course of varying level). Since Feruchemical tin allows to store different senses, I think it could - as a godmetal - transcend the Physical - Cognitive - Spiritual division of Feruchemy and allow you to alter all three; you could store adamantium for your mind (making it suspectible and fragile, unstable, closer to madness) and tapping would make the mind very resilient (for example to trauma or emotional Allomancy). You could store it for your soul; it would make it unstable (remember that part about Inquisitors' soul falling apart and being held by linchpin spike? Think that) and allow Ruin to influence you and it could perhaps Snap you. Tapping would make your soul resistant (for example Hemalurgy wouldn't work; Damnation, you could potentially block Shardblades with your bare hands!). Allomantic property is harder since it has to pair with an opposite effect of the alloy of adamantium. I have to think about that. Anyway, Hemalurgic property would allow to steal anything (since godmetals seem to be able to steal anything) with the added property (like atium holds better and trellium allows to hide) of slower decay.
