  1. I assumed everyone is familiar with the xkcd strip because I assumed it. This joke should be known because it should be known.
  2. I'm asking because today I got my hands on Polish translation. While reading in English I hadn't bothered with it, as I assumed it meant somebody who bleeds or make someone bleed. Like bloodletting. I was surprised it was translated as "barber surgeon" (this term totally sounds better in my language). So here I am: what does it really mean? Are there other meanings? What did you think it meant?
  3. Oooh, I had this theory some time ago. Upvote for you. I still don't get how stronger bronze let's "pierce" Copperclouds. If there is nothing to be heard, then it doesn't matter how good is your hearing.
  4. So Seeker would get a lot of noise. But instead they hear nothing. And with multiple bronze/duralumin they can pierce the cloud and hear normally.
  5. Correct. Initially the answer was Hoed. But since it seems that people just think of them just as Elantrians, then shall be it.
  6. Oh look, another Mistborn wants to kill me. How should I kill this time? Meh, it's so boring. I'll just call Inquisitors to do it for me. What? Treason?! Let's call the rest of the Inquisi... Oh they're dead. First let's open with Soothing-powered depression, maybe they'll give up. I'll just punch him. Oh, he ducked. The traitor thinks I have spikes. Cute. You earn an elbow to the stomach. The little Mistborn wants to help him. Time for some good ol' Steelpushing. Let's get rid of the metals here, I don't want her to escape. “What did you think, child? To defeat me? Am I some common Inquisitor, my powers endowed fabrications?” She wants to escape. Let's stick to the steel; Feruchemy this time. Let's see how she flies. Oh, she's Pulling on my bracers. Clever, but not enough. Back to Steelpushing. ...Aaaand a broken leg. “You think this is the first time someone has tried to kill me, child? I’ve survived burnings and beheadings. I’ve been stabbed and sliced, crushed and dismembered. I was even flayed once, near the beginning.” I am so tired of this. “I am God.”God cannot be killed,”“God cannot be overthrown. Your rebellion—you think I haven’t seen its like before? You think I haven’t destroyed entire armies on my own? What will it take before you people stop questioning? How many centuries must I prove myself before you idiot skaa see the truth? How many of you must I kill!” And this traitor. “How dare you?” “How dare you?” “After what I gave you? I made you superior to regular men! I made you dominant!” WHAT? Did she just say my name? How dare she say that? HOW DARE SHE? “You know nothing!” “You know nothing of that!” Let's see her say that again after I make her one with the wall! AAARGH MY METALMINDS! NONONONONONONONO! Is this really how I die? What they have done... This is the end of TLR from his viewpoint. I can easily see why he didn't bother with any of the fancy tricks he could do.
  7. I am the president of the club because I'm president of the club. I announced the first rule of the Tautology Club to be the First Rule of the Tautology Club.
  8. We know very little about thunderclasts. The only thing we know is their approximate size and that they were beasts of animated stone. We don't know what it takes to kill thunderclast. So we have a lot of guessing to do...
  9. Natural-born Fullborn is probably almost impossible. Seriously, after the bloodlines started to mix we don't have Mistborns (and they were already rare) and Full Feruchemists are unheard of (if they still exist). Now, Ferring Mistborn or Misting Full Feruchemist is even less probable to be born. Fullborn? Not gonna happen until we get to genetic modifications... Or Hemalurgy, but knowledge about it was restricted to Canton of Inquisition. Anyway, even if we get another Fullborn to battle TLR, we have to keep in mind that now they're equal in power. TLR has 1000 years of experience with his power. TLR has probably access to more metals than the second Fullborn would think possible to exist (as it was believed that there are only 10 metals).
  10. We totally need to have a good database, easily accessible so that Sharders can add WoBs to them but at the same time immune to vandalism. We'd have to have keywords, lots of keywords. And dates and way to link similar WoBs (the everchanging WoB on burning Hemalurgic spikes, for example). We'd need a way to mark WoBs as "outdated" or "not-longer-RAFO! Link to the new WoB or short comment on the book the information is released"... The fact that information is scattered everywhere is pretty bad, but the sooner we put new information into properly arranged database, the better.
  11. These are important questions for a Knight Theoretic. I'm glad you're asking them
  12. As the president of Tautology Club, I want to announce that the first rule of the Tautology Club is the first rule of the Tautology Club!
  13. This is gonna turn into another "how TLR was even defeated" thread, isn't it? First, you have to know that TLR is not a God and can be defeated. Not particularly hard. Second, you have to know that it is possible for a person to be both Feruchemist and Allomancer. Third, you have to guess he is. Fourth, you need a way to remove metalminds. Feruchemy route: spend few years storing speed. Overtap steel to flash in the Kredik Shaw and get the metalminds. Probably not gonna work since TLR can easily outspeed the you due to having infinite speed. Allomancy route: iron savant + duraluminum. You have to obtain duraluminum: "The Mistborn would need duraluminum. What is the chance that he discovers that there are more metals than ten? Very low. Finding aluminum? Very hard. Finding correct alloy of aluminum? Very hard" And even then I'm not sure duraluminum would suffice. We have evidence for duraluminum enhanced steel affecting spikes, but that was Vin. Vin was special. But even then, TLR's metalminds are not only piercing his body (as spikes do) but also insanely heavy Invested. We'd need a WoB. Vin's route: be chosen by the Shard have TLR accidentaly rip out your Hemalurgic spike burn the mists ??? TLR's dead!
  14. There was a WoB about Hoid and lerasium. Somebody asked about splitting the bead and Brandon said that Hoid would rather burn it whole. I can't find it right now.
  15. I don't say that science is in conflict with vorinism (ardents are scholars after all) but how come the culture still frowns upon stormwardens and the games that include anticipating the outcome (Szeth Interlude in WoK)? Kaladin was worried about ardents hearing about him saying he will survive the highstorm. He was saying things while facing a sure death, after being severely beaten and he could have just been babbling about and he was still worried about ardentia learning about it. Anyway, I'd love to learn something about stormwarden equations. I can't figure it out: highstorm cycles around the planet, at the same time it's not regular and can be predicted. How is that working?
  16. Well, the question is: would you do that? I mean, you're a Fullborn. There is no one who would be a threat for you, but in case somebody is insane enough to try, have your metalminds pierce your skin. Unless some noble (face it, what is the probability of skaa-born Mistborn? Mistborns are rare enough even in noble houses) went supercrazy (because why would a sane noble want to attack you? You're their god, they're priviledged class...) you're safe. Time of powerful Allomancers ended long ago. The Mistborn would need duraluminum. What is the chance that he discovers that there are more metals than ten? Very low. Finding aluminum? Very hard. Finding correct alloy of aluminum? Very hard. Not only your metalminds pierce your skin making them practically immune to Allomancy, they're also heavily Invested, further pushing the difficulty of Pulling on them. So your metalminds are safe, you're safe. With all that knowledge, would you go and rip your own tooth out just to have it replaced with a small metalmind? I'd have better things to do than ripping my teeth out. It hurts, you know?
  17. Brandon stated that Ruin and Preservation (being such good opposites) were drawn to each other (as in "opposities attract").
  18. If it isn't done in two years I am gonna do it for the project at university or something XD
  19. As the president of Tautology Club, I want to announce that the first rule of the Tautology Club is the first rule of the Tautology Club!
  20. storming storm of motherstormer badass. Cosmere filter gets along with exclamations some Sharders like to use like "Stormfather!" or "Colours' sake". Edit: wat? I thought badass turns to badchull! Edit2: Allomantic iron Allomantic steel Allomantic atium Feruchemical iron Feruchemical steel
  21. After I have seen numerous questions about spoiler tags, I think we should make a Beginner's Guide to 17thShard or something... BTW, I didn't know about "special BBCode" button. There are some cool things there, are they explained somewhere?
  22. How it is that simultaneously (I am never gonna memorize the correct spelling ) telling the future is looked down on and science is flourishing? One of the driving questions of science is "what would happen if...". Argument could be made that they're not developing probabilistics and statistics, but if they have physics? Experiment-driven physics?
  23. Start here. You have a long way down the rabbit hole ahead of you... P.S. 800th post! Rank 348 Stormwarden.
  24. As for the adrenaline rush, I want to provide a story. Imagine a 15 years old boy, rather thin, probably not exercising (no muscle build-up, but in the healthy interval). Puberty is just starting to kick in, right? He did not weight much, I could easily lift him in the air. Well, the situation is that they're doing some things on a boat (small one, Omega) and somebody unscrewed forestay from the deck. Result? The mast just fell down. He last-clapped it, alone; and without any problem turned it upright again. Kicker? I have seen fixing the forestay. Three grown men were needed to hold the mast (they took it from him). That's the adrenaline for ya. (Not to mention mothers ripping car doors away...) So Shardplate + probably Stormlight holding + adrenaline? That chasmfiend last-clap... plausible. But I wonder if the Shardplate enhancement isn't just the Stormlight-holding enhancement just somehow stuck to the Plate...
