There was something specifically about splitting the bead. Can't find it for the life of me, though.

Ages (If you are comfortable)
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Paraphrase of popular saying tells me that after 25 you need to Compound atium to stay young. But I'm turning 21 this year and I kind of feel weird with the thought that I'm supposed to be working in 2 or 4 years. I'm I starting to be an adult? -
Finally found it! People, start checking coppermind if you want to know something. It was linked in article about TLR.

So... I don't really know how to name this trope, but I'll try to give a description. I like seeing it done and I'd like to do it myself. Basically, it's how characters think back to their normal life. You know, all these "How my life has come to hunting down vampiries" sort of thing. How the characters incorporate their supernatural life into normal life. "I was to do something... Take out the thrash? Do the homework? Sharpen the knives? Study for the test?" I recently posted an excerpt I wrote about Haesar being on a party (only mages) and thinking about being one of the top mages in the country and still having no idea how to party. And then he sat down at the bar with a drink and contemplated the fact that he can throw fireballs, he fights monsters using a sword on daily basis and still considers not knowing how to dance a problem. Maybe it's about humanising characters? I had idea for a setting where a team of mages open portals to other dimensions to defend sieged castles. Like it's their job. Whenever there is a siege being held, a representative appears to offer services of qualified siege-breakers for money or resources or whatever. If the people agree (and they usually do), the company chooses a team of operatives and they drop in the world and do the job. So our team of heroes appears in the new dimension. And then they decide that's it's an easy enough job, so they lend some spells to one of them and he goes and slaughters the enemies. Why didn't they help? They have to study for math test. Picture the scene: One superhuman battles an entire army. Defending army supports him by archers on the walls. The rest of the team sits in the hall and solves storming equations. Because for the people in the castle, it's a matter of life and death. But for them, it's their day-to-day job. After ninth battle they all get the same, you know? So sometimes they pick one of them to do the job and the rest stays inside and plays cards. P.S. I honestly didn't notice similarites to Apocalypse Guard. I am not sure whether I had the idea before or after I read about it ----------------------- Edit: I just realized I don't have the name for my universe (the one with Haesar, not the sieged-castles-dimensions one). I don't know how to refer to it instead of "do you remember the idea I had for the universe where...". I remember naming the short story in alternate continuity "Burning sky". I also don't know how to name my "mages". I really don't want to use the "mage" term. Lukyanienko has Others, inFamous Conduits, this one fantasy author I doubt anyone here would know has Awakeners, Allomancers, Feruchemists, Hemalurgists and Surgebinders, Rothfuss has Namers and hermetics, Grzedowicz has Songsters or Doers/Causers/Makers (no idea how to translate it), Avatar has benders, there are metahumans and mutants and so on... How do Soul Smiths (or Soulsmiths) sound? I'm looking for a name for the whole group, individuals or smaller groups (like gravitymages) will still be called by "mage".

There was a WoB that Hoid would not burn half of it, he would burn the whole lerasium bead. I still don't know how to navigate Theoryland, so if there is someone with better search-fu...

Honor is staying true to what you've sworn, I'd say. Odium is hard to describe this way. One reason is that it's hard to define hatred. The other is the duality of the meanings of "Odium". Why does he destroy Shards? There can be multiple reasons. Because he wants to be the most powerful and only. Because he thinks himself superior. Because he hates them. Because he sees it as a way for widespread hatred to reign. Because he hates the world and wants to destroy it and he starts with beings which could oppose him. ... Now I would use a phrase, but I don't know how to say it in English. Something along the lines of "Brandon only himself knows". "Brandon knows", perhaps?

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!

Yeah, I know I'm not stupid, I've got evidence But it's always as if I miss some information or something. How does that keep happening to me? How do they know all that? -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
So, third week of the new semester, I am supposed to be finishing first task in JAVA ME. The thing is... I have no storming idea how to write in it. I've read the lectures (Storms and Rusts, I've BEEN at them!). Everyone on FB group had varying degrees of problems with configuring the whole editor, but I've already done that. I just have no idea how to use the language and everyone seem like they had been to a lecture I didn't know about which had explained everything. Nobody had problems with the task (at least not severe enough to ask for help on the group). I didn't miss any lectures. But it seems I'm the only one who is clueless. Am I stupid or what? -

Hoid with the bead of Lerasium (Spoilers)
Oversleep replied to FlailingMunchies's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Or maybe Hoid uses some pre-Shattering version of Feruchemy? Like, he's a Lightweaver but not a Rosharan Lightweaver. Is it possible that he uses some Older Feruchemy? would explain why it shows him where and when he needs to be - because it would have a different set of attributes altogether. -
What would you call a practitioner of Hemalurgy?
Oversleep replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Mistborn
Harmony himself said: So somebody with spikes is definitely a Hemalurgist. I wonder how would you call somebody doing all the spiking (without bearing any spikes themselves). -
Rashek remade himself to become a seriously overpowered Mistborn when he used Well Of Ascension (far more powerful than Lerasiumborn) He was a Fullborn He was a savant in probably all metals He was a Sliver He had 1000+ years of experience in using his abilities And on top of all that he probably could Compound his Allomantic abilities.

I think that looking at the whole thing from TLR's viewpoint may give you some perspective: source

In fact, tautology is not saying the same thing twice because it isn't.

Hoid with the bead of Lerasium (Spoilers)
Oversleep replied to FlailingMunchies's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hoid is somebody who programmed in assembly before higher-level languages even began to show up. Now he's going around cosmere and learning those new languages his now-Shardholders friends created. -
Does burning copper protect from being Leeched?
-
Regular Compounding refers to burning metalminds in order to make Feruchemy net-positive (that's what it is, basically). You end up with more Feruchemical charge than you stored. Reverse Compunding is a term we use to describe enhancing one's Allomancy, increasing Allomantic Strenght in the process (Lerasiumborn being stronger than regular Mistborn and so on). It is theoretised that it requires nicrosilminds.

poll Kelsier and Vin. Versus the Thunderclast
Oversleep replied to Darkness Ascendant's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Aluminium Savant: Ultimate Anti-Alien Investiture Users Prevention Measure. Got a Shardbearer trying to cut you? Burn aluminium. Got a Radiant trying to Lash you? Burn Aluminum. Got a Shade after you? Burn aluminum. Got an Elantrian trying something funny on you? Burn aluminum. Combine that with some exo-suit Powered Armor future!Scadrians will probably have and you have something a character from Star Wars would comment "I have a bad feeling about this" P.S. It is mostly ungrounded extrapolation without any proof. -

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Oversleep replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you stay up to 5 am to finish Bands of Mourning and you have to get up at 6 am. More like Bands of Morning! XD I have no self-preservation instinct, have I? More like self-Ruin instinct XD -
Due to spoilers flying here I immediately called Kelsier being the Soveignor and I outright knew the Bands were the spearhead I has some brief hope that one of the three spears TLR was pierced with before killing Kelsier was actually some superspike and TLR survived on his Bands and... and something... Telsin twist sursprised me. But I have to wonder: why do all these mythical figures leave behind artefacts imbued with their power. Seriously, Kelsier, why did you leave Survivor's Spear (I'm officialy announcing that name) behind? How did Kelsier get all these powers? Since we know that TLR rewrited himself to be extremely powerful Allomancer I say Kelsier made himself Full Feruchemist when he holded Preservation and then resurrected himself. (I didn't read MSH) More questions: what are these strange coins? Are they all Survivor's metalminds? All of them copperminds? ... Kind of a journal? Then you collect them all and... something? I was on Trell/Autonomy bandwagon, but now it doesn't make sense. Tyrannical force wiping out Scadrial. Unknown Shard? Odium got free? (Dominion being Splintered is Splintered and unless somebody Ascended on Sel I say Dominion has nothing to do with it) I wonder what does Allomantic Grenade do when charged with internal metal.

Random Stuff VII: The Admins Awaken
Oversleep replied to Young Bard's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Try being one of four (or something around it) Sharders in entire country One of my relatively-close friends was a Sanderfan before I did (I found out recently) but the guy doesn't even have Facebook.... On another note, week ago I made a crossover cable at the university. Today I used it to transfer files between computers (although configuring the connection was still hard). First time I actually used something I learned in real life (apart from all the math and physics I do subconsciously all the time ) -

We should create new things by adding prefix "neuro-" to them. Think about it. Neuroalchemy. Neurocooking. Neurogeometry.
