Random Stuff VIII: The Admin Special

You know all these "If you could live in any of those, which would you pick?" and there's the list with Hogwarts, Narnia, Middle-Earth and so on? After Hunger Games became a hit, "Panem" started showing up as one of the possible answers. This annoys me to no end. Seriously, people, what's wrong with you?! Who would like to live there?! BTW, it's sad that there never are the "Four Corners of Civilization" to pick. For a non-cosmere world, this probably would be my favorite choice - anyone can learn magic, it's practically science and they have advanced science to learn. (Not to mention a whole city of taverns near the University) For cosmere world... You know, when you read about it, Roshar seems to be a cool place, but statistically speaking you would probably be a peasant. I'd pick probably Sel, I'm devoted to cracking cosmere mysteries. After becoming Elantrian I invent both higher-level languages of Dor and assembly of Dor. A whole immortality to do it? Count me in. (After I become superpowerful, worldhop to Scadrial, find lerasium/ use my advanced Investiture skills to hack the mists an become Mistborn and Feruchemist if I can manage it, then obtaining Breaths on Nalthis shouldn't be very hard, then to Roshar to help them. And probably bond a spren)- 1963 replies

The whole issue with atium being associated with time abilities (seeing future, storing age)... The way I see it, Ruin is enthropy, so it means passage of time. BTW, I wonder what happens when you burn electrum and atium at the same time. They seem to be quite complementary. Shame Elend didn't have any electrum burning when he duraluminum burned atium. Now, what could you learn if you burned gold, malatium, atium and electrum at the same time and then burned duralumin?

Well... TLR did one punch Kelsier. When Marsh tried to attack Rashek, all he did was one attack which send Marsh flying across the room.

Oooh... I like the idea of humans deciding they are not going along with heaven nor hell and setting up their own afterlife. Purging the purgatory (BTW, it sounds like a good title) could be a nice plot thread.

@Elementalist There is a question that begs to be asked... Why would anyone want to work for Hell? Why aren't the sides interested in humans? Commonly it is believied that they wage war over human souls, after all.

There, fixed it for ya. Eh. The Steel Alphabet resists my tries. But I will crack it or prove there is nothing to crack or I am not a man known because of irregular sleep patterns! -

Mundane one. Get a good popular science book. Read it. Normally I'd offer some scientific insight, but the issue is really complex. BTW, did you know that people who had their corneas replaced can see ultraviolet?

The problem is that: It refers to those Death Rattles which occured in Taravangian's Death House. ...Unless you say that what the man said was not in fact that he realized he had his blood let and glimpsed into Shadesmar, but he had a vision (some of them are spoken from perspective of another human) of somebody who Kaladin was killing and that Kaladin's victim glimpsed into Shadesmar? Now that would be interesting. Theorydancer, was it? P.S. I posted a theory on electrum countering atium, you guys have seen it?

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
On Thursday, I thought "I got three days to catch up on everything, I can do this". Friday on most of Saturday I spent helping with cleaning the house after some changes in the house (finally we have a sink upstairs! Yay! I don't have to wash my hands in the bathtube! The end of arching the back uncomfortably!). Today I didn't get much done... and I find myself, at the end of the weekend, with much work left to do for the next day... again. And I feel just tired. What's worse, I know I probably won't get any sleep tonight... sleepless night again. Dark Alley, you have any Double Electrum spikes? I have some things for exchange. -
BioChromatic Entity Type IV bonding a Theoryspren?! Knights! To theories!!! Let's see what happens. Speak the oaths! Well, speak the oaths and you can join. But remember that you have to live by them. I assume you're speaking of that quote: The general consensus seems to be that the man questions one of the bloodletters at Taravangian's Death Hospital. Then he sees a Cryptic and then sees into Shadesmar.

@DreamEternal By no means I meant to imply they are the problem. If this pick of words came off as insensitive, I apologize. I'd rather say they have a problem. Unless they're OK with this, of course. But if they aren't OK with it, they have a problem (the basic definition of having a problem is something being wrong, right?). They will seek solutions. Some undergo operation of sex change. ...aaaand I don't really know what're the other possibilities. But one day I came across some article that for some the operation in the end didn't work out too well for them. I am a man of science, I say we gather data. I say we should analyse and compare different outcomes. That's what medicine is about, finding the best solution. For your second point, about people feeling wrong with their body... I was not talking about them. I understand that there are people like this. That. Like them. People like these people. ARGH! Curse you English! I wanted to specifically adress people who don't identify as male (or female) just because they do not fit the stereotype. Like (this is gonna be a hyperbole) "I don't really identify as a man because I don't chew bees instead of eating honey, because I am not muscular, because I do not have a 50 cm beard and I am not a lumberjack". I say: don't let anyone tell you that you're not something. If you're a man, you're a man, no matter your orientation, beliefs, hobbies, opinions, looks or anything. Don't let somebody's opinion influence you.

OK, I pretty much skipped everything after Kobold's post about him being...well, Kobold. Now, I don't want to come off as insensitive or something. I understand there are people with messed up brain biochemistry (or whatever that was, don't beat me, pleeeease. I am no biologist.). I understand they got problems with gender identity. I am not really qualified so I won't talk about them, since I see no point in it. Because I don't really researched the issue, so my talking about it would be without any merit. I want to talk about something else. I've seen posts here "I'm a man, but I don't like X or I am not Yish" and so on; people talking about not fitting stereotypes. Let me tell you something: it doesn't matter. I like this saying that "real men are not afraid to wear pink". For me, being a man (or a woman, but I am a man and will continue to talk about being a man for shorteness) is not about fitting stereotypes. A man can be a ballet dancer and be perfectly masculine. A man is not afraid to hold the purse for his woman/mother/sister. A man can be a babysitter (or whatever the most stereotypically feminine job there is). A man can enjoy My Little Pony or W.I.T.C.H. I watched it being 19 years old. Such a good cartoon. This doesn't make me any less of a man. A woman can be short-haired car mechanic. A woman can be a construction worker (or whatever the most stereotypical man job there is). For me, they're all men and women. No matter their sexual orientation. Homo, hetero, bi and so on. It doesn't matter. So I don't really understand why people who identify with one of the two basic genders say there are "something-gendered". Being a man (or a woman) doesn't mean being one thing and one thing only. It's a spectrum. There are different men and different women and not fitting some stereotype or popular view of it doesn't mean you aren't a man or aren't a woman. You are. You are choosing what it means to be a man/woman. Let me remind you, I'm not talking about people with identification problems (One day I'd call them trans, but I'm not sure whether it's a correct term). So..... What I want to say is that I don't really understand why there are dozens of genders. I understand that male/female don't cut it, but that many? Could somebody enlighten me? P.S. I wonder what is the influence of the language on the Identity. You see, in Polish verbs have masculine/feminine differences. When I say 'I was', the verb "to be" carries the information about my gender. Male: "Ja byłem". Female: "Ja byłam". When I go on the Internet, I almost instantly know if the other person is male or female. In English, it's all the same.

For a long time I was wondering why a simple basic metal allows to counter the effects of a godmetal. The short answer: it doesn't. The longer answer: it doesn't, but actually does. The true answer: Here we go. Let's start with everything we know: Atium burners see a single shadow of every object they see. The shadow shows the future of the object, few seconds at best. Somebody burning electrum sees his own multiple shadows Somebody burning electrum is said to be protected from atium Now, how are "vortexes of shadows" created? When another person sees your reaction to their atium shadow. They can act on it, what results in atium shadow splitting. Reference: Vin killing Zane. It's like that: Person 1 will do thing1. Person 2(burning atium) sees this and adjusts their movement. Person 1 sees the adjustment, quickly concludes thing1 and chooses to do thing2. Person 2 sees atium shadows split to thing1 and thing2. Image: When another person also burns atium. You can see their atium shadow, what they want to do and you can adapt your behaviour based on it. But since they also burn atium, they see what you want to do and what you want to do in relation to their behaviour. So they adjust their movement and so on. Since most of it happens subconsciously, it all happens at once. That's how a Feedback Atium Loop is created, resulting in multiple atium shadows. When you burn electrum, you see what you're about to do, so you can adjust what you want to do, this will create another electrum shadow which you will see and also can change your mind... So even without any atium burner nearby electrum creates a vortex of shadows (somehow confirmed at the beginning of HoA). That is Feedback Electrum Loop. Now, since electrum burner has multiple ways he can go, when you burn atium, you will see multiple shadows of electrum burner. For an observer burning atium you will also have multiple atium shadows. Mind you, if you constantly change your intentions, this will result in your atium shadow changing. But what causes them to multiply is acting on the hints from the future.

What are you playing right now?
Oversleep replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Throughout the last semester I was dropping by my friend who had PS4 and we would play Magika 2 (we completed it in one night sitting in the summer), mostly challenges. Recently we decided to complete it on Insane difficulty. We just did on Thursday. Now it's like... what're we gonna play? We still intend to do a super-artifcats run (because some maxed out artifacts are SO.MUCH.FUN.), but after that we've got few challenges and all the trials to complete and then it will be over. Sigh. -
Having visited Rome last summer, I can say this: Italian>>Polish. BTW, in Italy pizza usually have little ingredients. We're so used to milion things on pizza, but they do around three-four. And also Italian pizza have thin dough. So it's quite different from what we're used to.
