The actual name would be Shashahes (Shash-ah-es). But anyway those dates are all inaccurate. The battle of the Tower takes place in the month Tanat, and WoR ends just after the first day of the new year with the Everstorm being summoned during the last week of the old year. CheeseNinja has put together an excellent timeline here.

Brandon Sanderson's Writing Sessions
WeiryWriter replied to Kobold King's topic in General Brandon Discussion
There is already a thread discussing today's livestream here. This is the second time he is doing this, the first was back in January (thread about that one here). The first was one of the "rewards" for reaching one of the stretch goals of the annual Worldbuilders Charity run by Pat Rothfuss. The story he is writing is one that has been brainstormed with the viewers. Tonight's starts at 8:30 PM eastern time. -
Question for Brandon (this weekend)
WeiryWriter replied to Asha'man Logain's topic in Events and Signings
@Ashaman_Logain Yes I am aware that he has said that a listener could become a Radiant, however that was not what I was refering to in my post. I was refering to the other scenario you posed, a human bonding a void spren which we know to be theoretically possible but extrememly difficult. Actually I listened to the audio on that because that response didn't seem likely to me but Brandon's words make it quite clear that he is talking about Ashyn (he mentions it being in the Greater Roshar system and such). In my opinion one should never not ask a question just because someone thinks it is RAFO bait, Brandon has surprised us in the past with the questions he decides to answer. -
Question for Brandon (this weekend)

I really don't see how that is in any way connected to what he was asking? -
Question for Brandon (this weekend)
WeiryWriter replied to Asha'man Logain's topic in Events and Signings
I'm not sure about the human/stormspren question, hasn't Brandon said that its impossible/very difficult for a human to bond a voidspren? Regardless, I doubt it would work exactly the same way since the bonds would be different? Also I thought Mat's luck was just a manifestation of his ta'vereness? -
Granted I don't actually have any of the MAG books, but I want to say that is in the original as well. Anyway I think we should be treating magic mechanic stuff with a grain of salt, they by necessity are different from how they actually work in canon as a result of balancing issues.

Okay, I just came across this interview with Alex Flagg of Crafty Games (who has been the guy being interviewed in the hangouts) from a few weeks ago. Nothing really new, but there is a link to a preview of the new supplement. Also, an interesting bit of information I was not aware of: the people at Crafty are the ones who came up with the Feruchemical ability of cadmium, storing breath, which Brandon then incorporated into the final canon! I really can't get over how cool I think that is.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
WeiryWriter replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Doubtful, Domi is the name of the god of Shu-Korath, which is based off of Aon Omi. Dominion is the name of the shard in English, which they wouldn't be speaking. -
Yesterday the new Rocket Talk podcast, hosted by Tor.com, aired an episode talking about Brandon and the Stormlight Archive. The guest for this episode was Carl Engle-Laird who does a lot of the stormlight articles for Tor.com. It was an interesting discussion, but it does really underline the fact that there isn't really a podcast that discusses the cosmere in depth. But regardless, I enjoyed the episode. Has anyone else listened to it? What did you think?

[Crackpot Theory] Source of the Word "Nahel"
WeiryWriter replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it is important to note that Nahel uses a special suffix in its construction, the same suffix is used in Zahel. The use of suffixes is one of the two main naming conventions Brandon used (the other is symetricality), a good example of the suffixes in use is in Kaladin's name. It is based on the name of the herald Kalak with an added suffix Kalak+din=Kaladin. -
Adolin's actions at the end of WoR (spoilers)
WeiryWriter replied to Dain's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sort of. In the past Brandon has spoken about how Snapping creates cracks in a person's soul that leaves them open to accepting Preservation's investiture in the form of Allomancy and the WoR back cover blurb again talks about cracks in a person's soul leaving them open to what we understand to be the Nahel bond. There is a link at the bottom of the main forum index to The Moderating Team. There is also a list of Mods currently online on the right side of the forum index. -
Adolin's actions at the end of WoR (spoilers)
WeiryWriter replied to Dain's topic in Stormlight Archive
Moving this to the WoR Spoiler forum. On the topic, I will say I was surprised. His actions however, will not preclude him from becoming a Knight Radiant. While some orders, such as the Windrunners and Skybreakers will not take him, others, such as the Dustbringers or Willshapers, will still take him. My hope is that his actions are the begining of his "broken soul". Edit: For future reference, just message a moderator, we can move the threads as opposed to making multiples. -
Cosmere Fanart - Sketches and Works-in-Progress
WeiryWriter replied to ExMachina's topic in Creator's Corner
I do really love that comic and I can't wait for the next one. My only gripe with it is that I think the hair is to blond? It's probably just me but I identify pretty strongly with Elend and I've just always pictured him with the same color as myself. I just see it as a darker brown with less yello? -
I've added the video of the event to the OP.

Theory: Nightwatcher boons and curses are the same thing
WeiryWriter replied to shawnhargreaves's topic in Stormlight Archive
I really don't think Av misunderstood anything about the story, since it was about his father and he himself lived through it. Av is very likely the best informed character we have met about the nature of hte Nightwatchers boons and curses, since he has at least four instances (father, mother, and all his brothers). Granted Av's father could have lied about it but why would he? He had no reason to. And the bundle of cloth as the boon just fits, it saved his family. It had to come from somewhere, and the Nightwatcher is the most plausible explanation. -
I'm pretty sure I saw someone suggest that Roshar rotates in the opposite direction from Earth? (So the sun would rise in the West and set in the East). It's not true: It's really hard to interpret that any way except as the sun setting in the West, like on Earth.

I want to say that Brandon has talked about how Elend was Preservation's Champion when it was held by Vin and Marsh was technically a Champion of Ruin?
-
I did mention it in my notes, but they plan for it to be released before GenCon (August 14-17) but they did not give a more exact date. They are planning on doing more livestreams so maybe I'll ask at the next one?
-
Hoid actually has white hair. He has just dyed it black on Roshar.

I understand his point. The point I'm trying to make is that measuring mass, which is what the kilogram is used for, is what is really important in this discussion (not weight), and it acts independently of gravity. (And personally having it determined by mass rather than volume feels more scientific to me? Since volume is measured by derived units while mass is not?) @Argent, in the case of two planets controlled by two different peoples with two different units for measuring mass, they would just determine the conversion rate between the two. That is what is easiest/most logical. With three or more, they should come up with a universal unit, like a lingua franca but for mass.

So you remember back in January when Brandon did the livestream where he brainstormed a story about magic alien hair that holds memories with the people watching? Well guess what is happening this Friday! Brandon mentioned in his blog post today that he is doing the next part of the story in a livestream this Friday and he will also answer questions. The livestream will be hosted at the Waygate Foundation page on Justin.tv: http://www.justin.tv/waygatefoundation
