I'd posted about my transcription in the comments of the then most recent re-read, because people were talking about it, which is how I think they learned about it.

No he also read from Legion 2 and Alcatraz 5, we just don't have video for them (at least none that I've seen).

I just had a thought, I wonder if the Aviar operate under similar principles as the magic fish of the Purelake...

POV's for Introduction in next 3 Books
WeiryWriter replied to Patrick Star's topic in Stormlight Archive
If Eshonai gets to be one of the prologue viewpoints, I really don't think it is going to be book 4, since that is already her flashback book, I think the most likely is book 3. I think it's going to be Eshonai, Elhokar, and then Gavilar.- 25 replies

I definitely felt the same way but that may because I'm not really a fan of OSC, he writes good books but as a person I don't much care for him. I also thought it was weird that random phrases were bolded?

Would this work as a television series?
WeiryWriter replied to IdlyIdeological's topic in Stormlight Archive
I would really disagree that it "would take away all the beauty of it". There is some incredibly awesome work being done in that medium and it is totally capable of portraying Roshar faithfully. Ben McSweeney, one of the artists who works on the Stormlight books, thinks it should be made into an anime. I'm inclined to go with him on this. I really can't see Brandon giving HBO the rights to any of his works, you may not have a problem with HBO adding gratuitous sex scenes, but I'm pretty sure Brandon would. "The scenery does not appear more difficult than the one we saw on GoT" I'm sorry, but did we read the same books? Game of Thrones takes place on a remarkably Earth-like world, you could pretty much go anywhere and say "Oh this sort of environment could totally exist on Earth" (evidenced by the fact that they can go on-location to shoot, instead of having to build artificial environments). Roshar, excepting Shinovar, is a pretty alien world it doesn't look like any place on Earth so any live-action production is not going to have it as easy as GoT. My issue with actors isn't over whether they could accurately portray the characters. From a personality perspective, I have no doubt there are actors who could do them faithfully. However, Hollywood and Western media has an awful tendency to whitewash everything. Would you care to explain *why* you don't like anime or why you feel it would "ruin the whole thing"? If you don't watch it how are you qualified to make that decision? The main issue I see is that there are a number of people here who view anime as a lesser art form, to which I say go and watch some good ones, you might change your minds. -

Does The Hero of Ages Give Us a Clue About Cultivation?
WeiryWriter replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Friendly reminder that magic fish are magic because of symbiotic bonds with spren, that are fairly common on Roshar. I doubt the Everstorm is Honor's shardpool, because it is almost certainly of Odium. But I think you meant highstorm in which case maybe? I don't *think* it is but we don't really know enough about shardpools to say definitively whether or not they have to be "pools" (but I think they do). Also Brandon has said that the Mists are like the highstorms. -

Actually there will be, if the limited edition sells out, but it won't have the cover or interior art.

Would this work as a television series?
WeiryWriter replied to IdlyIdeological's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think I've mentioned this before but I'm pretty much vehemently opposed to a live-action adaptation. I just don't think it could do the world justice without costing a truly obscene amount of money. The world is just too different from our own, it isn't like Westeros which is pretty much a close Earth-analogue, the flora and fauna is bizarre and alien and the ethnicities do not mesh particularly well with Earth ethnicities (most Rosharans have epicanthic folds). I personally think it should be made into an anime-style production, as it would have the best chance at portraying the world the way it deserves to be portrayed at a reasonable cost and the only concern with actors would be getting the voice right. -
Actually that bit about Endowment's shardpool is based on WoB: (source)

So just thought I'd let people know that Brandon posted the cover art for Skin Deep on his blog! I think it looks fantastic, and how it matches the style of the first. Subterranean Press has a pre-order for the Limited edition (leather-bound) hardcover on their site.

Not really, I think it was pretty much the expected thing. It is Odium's storm after all, if anything it would give "voidlight" though I don't know if I support that theory at this time.

I just went back to check and it does seem like that might be the case, I remembered the well being much further away from the palace than it is. I think I was thrown by the fact that on the previous page Galladon describes the spire on the Palace as the exact center of Elantris.

It's definitely unfortunate, but I can't say I'm surprised or disappointed. All that is really happening is that the game is remaining a nebulous "thing that might happen one day" it's not like we have actually learned anything about it.
-
Okay, I'm not sure I understand everything, but it seems to be predicated on the idea that the "dot" in the Aon Rao formed by the Elantrian Metropolitan District is the Lake? Which can't be the case since it is on a mountainside *outside* of the city. From what I can tell the dot is the Palace, which, according to Galladon, is at the exact center of Elantris.

Technically he has depression *and* SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), they aren't the same thing, the latter is related to the Weeping but the main depression is going to be year-round.
-
re: Kaladin being mopey, I'm sorry you feel that way but Kaladin is canonically depressed, that isn't something he is just going to "grow out of". Kaladin's portrayal is a fairly accurate depiction of depression, and its a fairly important part of his character. I for one welcome the depictions of non-neurotypical characters that Brandon created for his books, and I think they should be as accurate as possible.
