  1. Moving WoR forum...
  2. I wouldn't say we "know" it isn't natural. Investiture is a "natural" part of the cosmere. Greatshells have bonds with spren, which are investiture, that allow them to grow to such large sizes but I wouldn't say that was "un"-natural. What is natural for the cosmere is not necessarily what we would consider natural on Earth.
  3. I'm just going to move this to the WoR subforum. I do think that shardplate operates under different principles than shardblades. Since the shardblades are the Nahel bonded spren, every Radiant had one however not every Radiant had plate. It was available to them all but not every Radiant used it. That seems different, to me, than the spren just not appearing in that form? Also shardplate doesn't disappear when not in use, and Syl never complains about it.
  4. Okay people, this thread is in the main Stormlight forum so WoR spoilers need to be in spoiler tags!
  5. Actually they were all named in WoK.
  6. There is already a thread that has discussed the death rattles in depth here.
  7. Yeah the Event forum that Argent linked to is the best place for seeing stuff come in as i happens. For long term stuff the Interview Database is the place to look.
  8. I disagree with the "The Spiritual Realm is, at least in some way, Heaven." statement you make since I'm reading the WoB differently I guess. If Brandon had just said the bit about the names translating to "Heaven" I would be okay with it but he goes on to mention that they are not correct in calling it that. As the WoB CrystalBodies (a link to which can be found here) clearly states the Spiritual Realm is NOT the final resting place for the cosmere, so it isn't what we would call "Heaven".
  9. Okay so this isn't exactly a typo, more of a possible continuity error? In Chapter 14 the dueling arena, where events such as the Melee take place, is located in Making Hall. Joel goes in there after spying on Nalizar and finds his mother: However in Chapter 25 the narative seems to indicate the arena is in Warding Hall: Am I missing something or is this an error?
  10. Hmm... Interesting. I dub it the "Wandering Shard" (for now).
  11. Oh my word this is priceless! And so amusing, especially if you've finished the book. Edit: Also Brandon pronounces it "YEEM" I believe.
  12. Okay, I've updated the surge-glyph images with their actual names. I'm also working on an annotated chart, but I want to get the last three order locations confirmed before uploading that. Windy and I agree that the individual surges should not receive their own pages. The current plan is for everything to be covered on the Surgebinding page, which I will be working on at some point. I'm currently in favor of condensing the Lashing and Soulcasting pages into it as well, but that is something that will need to be discussed with the other coppermind staff.
  13. Another little tidbit from leinton on tumblr:
  14. We have heard the term cognitive shadow before: (source) But as for the difference between the shades and Kelsier, I think it has something to do with them being in the Physical Realm while Kelsier is in the Cognitive Realm, "cognitive things" like cognitive shadows, or spren, have a hard time manifesting sentience while in the Physical without aid (i.e. Nahel bond).
  15. I think the easiest way is to upload it to Youtube, then just paste the link into a post and the video player will show up.
  16. Personally I've been referring to it as The Response. I like the simplicity. As for sustainability I think it could work (Letter/Response/SecondLetter/SecondResponse) and it would help differentiate the missives written by Hoid and those by the Dragon?
  17. I'm going to place a bid on the Surgebinding page as well. I have Thoughts on how I want that to be.
  18. So a tumblr friend of mine was at this signing and he's posted his report here:
  19. There is already a thread for requesting transcriptions. It is stickied in this forum.
  20. Yeah, this has been pretty well discussed in the Interior Art thread Argent linked to.
  21. If I remember correctly Ruin's consciousness wasn't confined to the area around the Well, he could "go" anywhere he wanted he just couldn't DO much of anything. His prison wasn't one of a traditional sense he could try to affect something but Preservation's power would push back, canceling out his actions. The atium was something separate from Ruin's prison, Preservation set up the Pits to siphon away a portion of Ruin's power and lock it away in physical form, thereby preventing Ruin from easily accessing it. When atium is burnt that energy does not return directly to Ruin. When shards fuel magic systems that aren't "theirs", i.e. Ruin and Allomancy, it requires them to expend energy in a way they are reluctant to do. Basically it a long time for the energy expended to return to them. Think of a Shard fueling one of its magic systems like that M.C. Escher sketch the energy can constantly be cycled. A shard who is fueling another magic system it is more like a traditional water wheel, the water has to evaporate downsteam and get rained back down upstream before it can go back through the water wheel. Does that make sense?
  22. I wonder where they got the March 3rd release date from? Because that is most certainly wrong. The US Release is the 4th and most of the rest of the world is the 6th, I believe.
  23. Who said I was trying to steal your bodyguards? Like that would even work. Anyone this far gone has absolutely no chance of breaking free from your hold. (And how do you know I was testing for traitor-spies i.e. the kandra or a certain member of the Brown Ajah? it would reflect poorly on me if I did not do my best to protect my even-more-evil-twin)
  24. Can I just say this thread gives me great amusement? You poor unfortunate souls, to be ensnared by the Fandom Monster, don't you know she is evil? (although who am I to judge based on morality, and anyway if you weren't under her sway where would my amusement come from? Mahahaha!) I wonder though, do you all have feathers that piercing your body, though which you are able to communicate with your mistress a la hemalurgy/Ruin?
