Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I was so exhausted today that I went to sleep a little after 8PM, which is crazy early for me. It's currently 1:45AM and I'm wide awake. -
The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Jondesu replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, it would have been there at least a few days ago, maybe longer. The Benedict Cumberbatch one is up on Hot now, and the GameCube loading screen might still be on Trending. I spend most of my time on Trending too. -

Heh, it can be toxic at times, but I always get a smile or two. Did you see the pizzaburger meme? That's my crowning achievement so far. -
The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

It's the little things: in the last week I've had two memes I created take off and go to the Hot page on 9GAG (a humor website). Very satisfying. They're currently at about 13,000 and 6500 upvotes. -
Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thanks, Lopen. I'll leave my vote where it is in that case. If I wake up before 4am I'll check again to be sure. :-P Edit: We're closer to successfully executing Squeeves than Drake, and considering we haven't had an execution yet, I think we need to go through with it. Changing that vote to execute Squeeves, which means I might as well put a pardon vote on Drake as a long shot. -
Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Looks like we have 5 votes to pardon Drake, and two to execute. Even if everyone switched, that's not enough votes to achieve either. Please vote, people! Since a pardon is basically impossible now (it was already a long shot) and I don't really see it getting any easier in the next round or two, sorry Drake, but I'd rather get confirmation of your alignment and some information going forward. Can someone work up a vote tally on the imprisonment votes? I have a hard time with those anyways since new votes don't require retracting the previous one, and I'm overdue for sleep. I'll try and make sure my vote is in the right place before the cycle ends. -

All Must Dine With The Nightwatcher (spoilers all 'round)
Jondesu replied to marsoupial's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You know, I thought it was confirmed, but I'm not absolutely certain. -
Colors, man! Some warning before you drop something that punny!

Well, let's be fair here, he would have known about the Dor, but that doesn't mean he fully understood what Odium had done at the time. Hoid may be the most Realmatically aware person in the Cosmere, but that was early on, and we often ascribe too much knowledge to him. He's not all-knowing, not by a long shot. And if the method he was trying to use to become an Elantrian depended on modifying Spiritual Connections instead of linking him to the splinter of Devotion and/or Dominion in the Cognitive Realm that is behind AonDor, then it very well may have failed because what he was doing was going about it the wrong way.

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Glad to hear it, and I'll try to continue to show that I am exactly what I claim. As for Inactives, while executing them might not be entirely necessary, it's notable that we've seen already the effects of inactivity. It's really important that we keep a majority of active players, 3/4 if possible, so that we can actually execute and pardon players as we're supposed to. Granted, we don't have to execute anyone to win, apparently, but we might really benefit from being able to pardon people. It's worth noting that I did, for now, move my vote onto Arinian, who I do suspect at least more than many others in this game, but while it's important to get some lynches for information, this game certainly places a lot higher priority on activity than most games, so we need to keep that in mind. I'm genuinely very annoyed at players like @JUQ and @The lazy anarchist that haven't participated at all, and shouldn't have signed up in the first place unless they simply had no idea they wouldn't be able to play. EDIT: I did help drive the lynch from Alv to Drake in C3, but as a means of imprisoning Drake, who I genuinely suspected. I've changed my mind, but at the time I didn't do it because I wanted Alv free; that was completely unrelated. I'd be open to imprisoning Alv instead of Arin if the votes are moving that way, or Ecth or Mage, who I have growing suspicions of, in addition to always being open to lynching an inactive. -
Most of the orders are about protecting people (all of them in a general sense, but not necessarily on an individual level I suspect). The Edgedancer Oaths so far have been about listening to those that are ignored, though, and that's what people see in that scene beyond just simple protecting people. Good to know, I didn't remember that.

I've been listening to "Be Kind To Yourself" by Andrew Peterson a lot lately. Note that it's an unabashedly and openly Christian song, but applicable to anyone regardless of faith (it's merely approaching a universal issue from a Christian perspective).
-
The Edgedancer part isn't confirmed, no, but it's very likely that his sword is an Edgedancer spren from the description, leading many of us to believe that's where he'll go, along with a few things he's done like protecting the prostitute in the camps.
-
Yeah, it's no surprise that Renarin is broken enough for a spren while Adolin doesn't seem to be yet, @AerionBFII, but I do think Adolin is easily on his way there with the character arc we've seen. He's definitely not a flat character even though he could seem that way to a cursory reading, and he's been set up for a major fall, starting with cracking and killing Sadeas. I don't buy the idea that the fallout from Sadeas' murder will be all that significant, but I do think there will be more things like that, and Adolin will find himself stepping up to fight injustices outside of the proper channels, listening to those others ignore. Yes, I think he's on the path to become an Edgedancer, and to revive his sword (if he wasn't originally, then Brandon will probably adjust his character arc because of how much he's gained popularity and how that idea of reviving his sword has gained traction), and to make that happen, I think he'll have to reach the equivalent realization of the Third Ideal of the Edgedancers on his own, without the aid of the spren.

The last two drafts won't take nearly as long, though, they go quickly since they're really mostly to check spelling and grammar, and maybe phrasing of a few things, instead of checking continuity and overall story flow. The drafts will be done a good while before the books are released, though, since they then have to finish the artwork, do all of the layout and typesetting, and then get it off to the printers. Actually being released in November seems quite likely, though, since he's on schedule.

All Must Dine With The Nightwatcher (spoilers all 'round)
Jondesu replied to marsoupial's topic in Cosmere Discussion
They're a good bit less than that, I would assume. There's 9 of them, to start, and we have been told they're splinters of Odium (voluntary, I would assume, since we know he's not splintered, though there could have been some other method of forcing him to create them I suppose), and they don't seem to represent Odium directly. I think the Nightwatcher is actually Cultivation's Vessel taking on a physical form and interacting with people, which makes it the closest equivalent we've seen to a Cognitive Shadow, but for someone who's not dead (just doesn't have a physical body anymore). -
I agree in part, but with Syl, we can't just not see her until that scene since otherwise it'll seem that Kaladin is completely crazy, and there are a lot of scenes you have to see her in before she reveals herself to anyone else. That said, having some scenes where an observer can't see Syl but we know she's there is definitely important to set the expectation that she's invisible to others unless she chooses.

Nightblood is going to be the End
Jondesu replied to Hemalurgic Headshot's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Nightblood definitely has a limit to the Investiture it can handle, though. Brandon has said it's a lot less than a Shard, though he didn't set a specific limit (if we even had a way to describe that). I doubt he could do that, but he could certainly wreak a lot of havoc.- 15 replies

All Must Dine With The Nightwatcher (spoilers all 'round)
Jondesu replied to marsoupial's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Just a quick nitpick, those who die don't go to the Spiritual Realm, but to The Beyond, which even the Shards can't see into or affect. Easy mixup to make considering how we would think of a Spiritual Realm by default. I had to look up the context of the quote to see what it's saying. It's a quote of Nohadon from the in-world "The Way of Kings", talking about taking the slow journey to Urithiru. I suspect it's founded only in the mythology in-world, which is likely only loosely based in truth at best, but it does seem very likely that the Nightwatcher is of Cultivation, and that she does help guide those who die to the Beyond. We know others interact with them sometimes too, though, like Moelach, who causes the death rattles, though we don't know in what way. It's implied that that is a duty many of the Shards take on themselves, though without any actual confirmation. We do know the Nightwatcher is of Cultivation, btw. Brandon said she is to Cultivation what the Stormfather is to Honor, sort of (since Cultivation isn't dead). -
I'm a Spinner now. Had to look it up, but storing Luck could be pretty cool. I already feel like I've been storing it for years but don't have any way to tap it.

Ouch.

Yup, it wasn't entirely a joke.

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Kintas was aware of being unconscious, which was odd. He couldn't make out much of what he was seeing in his dream-like state, but he found himself seeing Sareth, dead but speaking to him, talking of something called the Truthseekers. It was all so hazy, though, and incorporeal. Then there was light to breath, and he sucked it in greedily, returning to consciousness and driving away the pain. He sat up gingerly, noting that he'd been pulled away from the battle a little ways, but fortunately not thrown over the edge and left for dead. A spearman still held his shoulder, apparently the one who had moved him out of the way, and he blessedly held out a pouch of spheres, some of them still infused. That was where the Stormlight that had brought him back came from, and Kintas sucked in the remainder of the light to drive away the cloudiness that remained in his head, giving him back energy and healing the damage the lightning strike had done. He started to rise, but one of Dalinar's officers placed a hand on his shoulder. "You've done enough for now, Initiate. Rest and stay safe." Kintas shrugged off the hand and rose to his feet, ignoring the order. "There's still soldiers fighting and dying on that plateau, sir. I won't remain behind if I can help." He accepted a spear from one of the men nearby who offered it, and sprinted across the bridge back to where the fighting was taking place. He might not be much of a soldier, but he'd found his courage held out in the face of near-certain death, and he could still tend to any wounded and bring them back out of harm's way if needed. He also had this lingering feeling that he needed to find the truth, but he wasn't sure what truth he was meant to find. That would wait until later. The stuff about Sareth is entirely unrelated to the actual game, just something RP-wise he wanted me to work in, so don't read anything into it.
