Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Kintas watched in unrestrained awe as the circle of runes that Fifth had so meticulously carved began glowing, and then light shot out from them. He'd seen some amazing uses of Investiture, but this was certainly one of the more visually stunning, and Kintas himself was virtually a shape-shifter. Then Fifth put his hand on the stone runes, and suddenly, Kaladin himself was standing in front of him. All around them were staring at the transformation, which lasted but a moment, when Fifth returned to his normal appearance and he sagged with fatigue. "I know where to go," he said wearily, "beneath the plateau with the horse-shaped rock formation." He paused for a moment. "And you're not going to like this." Kintas didn't remember a horse-shaped rock formation, but the scouts knew where he was talking about, so they turned and headed back to the ladder. Fifth elaborated on what he'd seen once they reached the top of the plateau, drawing a look of fear briefly into the officers eyes before they hardened to diamond. "We'll bring our Captain home, or the storms can take us." @Ecthelion III, I assume you were saying that Kaladin carved a hole in the rock to hide or shelter in, and that the Voidbringers were closing in on him, or else the storm? I hope what I did didn't mess with what you were planning (the italics are what you said, with one phrase taken out since Kintas wouldn't have been privy to Fifth's thoughts). -
Yeah, I know, he still knew he was cursed for it, he just also didn't have a choice. Allowed may have been the wrong word.
-
Nah, only the hype died. There's still tons of people who play it, I see them at parks all the time (and I still play too).
-
Perhaps, but it's amazing what religious fanaticism can do in those situations (we saw how big of a deal it was to Szeth, and he was "allowed" to do it because of his nature as Truthless). Not to mention, their agriculture and buildings will all be devastated as well.

No apology necessary, Aman, keep up the good work! Gives us more time to get everyone participating anyways. -

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination

Thanks for the corrections, randuir and Alvron, it was tough to keep track of some of that. @Arinian, I noticed that I'd voted twice for Drake when I went to do my vote tally, I did the second vote because I really thought I hadn't the first time. I do agree, though, I would have been a lot more careful if I were an Elim. Edit: my vote on DA is not because I think this behavior is unusual for him, but for two other reasons: it's very unhelpful in this game where participation in the main thread is more important, and I've not seen him voting or providing reasoning very often, which is going to make things storming difficult for us. I do think it's an easy smokescreen for him, since he always does it, so it makes it very tough to tell when he is an Elim, but it doesn't make him less suspicious and problematic either. -

Alright, this has been a crazy round of voting, so let me know if I made any mistakes, but here's my current vote tally: Interrogate: Shqueeves (2): Arinian, randuir, Lopen, Arinian Alvron (0): Arinian DA (2): Jondesu, HH, randuir Execute: Drake (2): Doc12, Ecthelion, Arinian, randuir, Lopen, Jondesu, Magestar, Arinian Quiver (1): Arinian, Alvron Pardon: Drake (7): Doc12, HH, Jondesu, Alvron, randuir, Arinian, Magestar At this point we don't even have the combined votes necessary to either execute or pardon Drake, which is a problem, but we're actually far closer to pardoning him than executing him. Since we have 18 free players, we need 10 to execute, or 14 to pardon (majority to execute, 2/3 to pardon, right?). Those who haven't voted need to vote one way or another to avoid just having another day go by without a clear decision. @A Joe in the Bush, @Assassin in Burgundy, @TheSilverDragon, @JUQ, @Shqueeves, @The lazy anarchist, @DroughtBringer, @Darkness Ascendant, @Elbereth, please read, decide, and vote! That's half the free players who haven't even cast a vote! EDIT: In the next couple rounds, those who don't vote will become my targets for interrogation. We need to make sure people are participating or else the Honorable won't have a chance, so anyone that doesn't vote often enough, especially for the execute or pardon votes, will be a hindrance at best. -
Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Umm, I really missed something then. Okay, The Phantom Stranger (Darkness Ascendant). -
Just pulled it up. That's what I was remembering too, but Cenn calls him Stormblessed when he first arrives, before that, because he had already been told it was Kaladin's nickname. He doesn't reference it again there. There is another reference later, though, by Dallet, when Kaladin takes out the lighteyed officer (not the Shardbearer): That could be part of it, but again, the name Stormblessed isn't referenced there.

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I fixed it already anyways, though you and Ecth can both include it too for a more holistic look at the situation. I do want to see this progress, and also see some RP from Bridge crews 2 and 3, though, c'mon people! -

Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Oh man, I missed that somehow. EDIT: I modified it a bit to acknowledge the dagger. :-) Alright, I'm not sure about the Squeeves arrest; doing it in the name of the Contribution Crusade would be one thing, but he's responded now and plans to be more involved, so it would be counter-productive to lynch him this cycle based on that. I would fully support going after JUQ or Anarchist instead, but I have to say, I'm a bit bothered by the way DA has been acting. I know he tends to lurk and not post a lot in the main thread, but he was doing some active RP for a few cycles, then disappeared, then maybe sorta did some more last cycle (though I think I didn't see enough words in his RP posts to meet Aman's requirements), but he's done hardly any discussion. Anyone been getting PMs from him? Until I hear something else, I'll put my vote on Hashiv (Darkness Ascendant). -

Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
That is unfortunately probably true. I will switch my vote before rollover if we don't get enough to pardon, since as I said we have to do one or the other or we will be in worse shape, but I am hoping maybe people will check in and see the discussion in time. RP! Kintas heard one of the scouts reporting back up to Dalinar's officers, with the message that they had found a Shardblade cut, almost certainly made by Kaladin, and that one of the initiates had an idea for how to follow him, or find him somehow. One of the bridge engineers had a small chisel and was preparing to head down with it when Kintas offered to take it instead. He happily volunteered it, grateful to avoid needing to take the trip into the chasm himself. Kintas glanced at the rope ladder descending into the gloom, and decided he'd had much more fun last time he'd dropped into a chasm, and that he was better prepared this time. Pulling off his rope belt, he Awakened it to bind to the anchor they were using for the ladder, then turned and smiled at the engineer before stepping back over the edge of the chasm. He dropped like a rock. When he was nearing the end of his rope, though, he used it to slow his fall, the "muscles" in the rope providing a gentle slowing, then as he came within about 20 feet of the ground, he told it to release it's grip at the top of the chasm and he sucked in Stormlight as he fell the remainder of the way. As he hit the ground, frost began to form around his feet, and he simply knelt into a crouch, the Stormlight absorbing the impact beautifully and keeping him from even feeling any pain. He glanced down, noticing the frost on the ground actually looked somewhat like a glyph, but he was distracted from his study of it by the sight of what was happening. The initiate who just called himself "Fifth" usually was standing there clearing a small space near the Shardblade cut with a dagger, but obviously waiting for the better tool Kintas had brought. This was why Kintas had come, since he knew there must be some other form of Investiture involved in whatever the man was planning, and he wanted to see how it work. He slapped the chisel into the man's outstretched hand, and leaned against the wall next to him to watch him work. @Ecthelion III, there's your chisel! -
Geniuses Wanted- Well Read Sanderfans -with restrictions

My first prediction: Shallan will indeed break her bond with Pattern, "killing" him, and she will do it intentionally. She will abandon the Knights Radiant to join either the Diagrammists or the Ghostbloods completely. -
That quote I provided indicates that's not the reason, it's because he was seen as "lucky" because he kept so many of his men alive.

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
RP still to come (gotta figure out the best way to add some excitement without bringing back the Voidbringers or another chasmfiend), but I have decided that even though I pushed strongly for his imprisonment, I have been convinced by Drake and those who have talked to him that he likely is indeed an Honorable Dustbringer, and the potential damage if we're wrong but pardon him is less significant than if we let that Dustbringer spren go free and an Unjust gets it, and we either execute Drake or leave him. We have to execute or pardon him no matter what, this cycle, or we both lose information and that spren, so I'm changing my vote and I'm going to vote we pardon Drake. It's a risk no matter what, but I think this is the more acceptable risk. -
The reasoning for it is provided by one of the soldiers back in Amaram's army: So it's implied that it's a common phrase, I guess. Oh well, forget what I said earlier.

I dunno, it's still a little odd. No one else in the entire series has said that about anyone else, so being "storm blessed" doesn't seem to be a common phrase. No one seems to know he had that nickname in Amaram's army, though, so it's tough to say where they got it. Getting it for the first time after being strung up in the highstorm would make sense, but having had it in Amaram's army too (and from the wind seeming to whirl around him as well as the way he keeps his men alive) it does seem like more than a coincidence.

That is interesting (I'd seen it before but the wording is clever). It's worth noting that spren are pieces of Honor, and depending on how you interpret other statements and Cosmere bits of knowledge, you could say that they are part of his soul (the "mind" or Cognitive Aspect is what passes on to the Beyond when a human dies, so it could be seen as their "soul", but even if not, they are part of what is left, so I'd still say spren could be said to be parts of Honor's soul, just not willingly given the power he gave to the Honorblades and the Heralds).

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think I'm voting for Sart as well. The High Imperial is something I would never attempt, but he pulled it off beautifully while still managing to make himself understood for us. I'll give some thought to others, though. I think the criteria was to use the CR in every post, right? I know I was far from that, and others with amazing work on it also left it out on some posts because, well, they were replying to people who weren't, and didn't go back into character. It's an interesting way to judge it. Also, Wilson? Never trusting you again. Ever. But you did make it a fun game, so *bows*. Remart's still drunk on the floor of the pub, btw, and probably won't wake again considering what's happening. Oh well. I did survive the game, which I didn't think I was going to, so that was nice (except I'm marked as dead in the player list at the end? I didn't think I was killed.).- 1403 replies

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Amanuensis, it's worth seeing if you'll clarify, then: was Ralaanar's cloak catching fire meant to indicate a failed attack, or was it just flavor within the story? EDIT: I've been in contact with Drake as well as with some of those he'd contacted prior to being put in jail or who have also reached out. He is…convincing to a large degree, and seems relatively genuine, but I'll admit to being a lot less trusting than I was before the AG ended. For now, my vote is going to stand, but I'm giving it close consideration. I think it might be worth the risk of him being Honorable to prove or disprove his story with an execution in this case, though I wish I knew Mage's alignment (since he's one of the strong contenders to get the Dustbringer spren if Drake does have it and loses it to death or imprisonment). I think it's worth noting that it's unlikely that we'll reach a consensus to pardon him, and leaving him in jail is a bad idea either way, so unless we see a strong move to pardon him, I would urge those currently voting that way to reconsider. We must be decisive, after all, so if we leave with a hung jury, we'll be worse off than either other choice. EDIT 2: I'll be doing more RP in the morning hopefully. We seem to have lost some of the drive we had for the chasmfiend and voidbringers sequences, understandably since we don't have the same cool prompt here, but I think we can do better than we have been. Let's make something interesting happen! -
Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination

If that was true, Rae would have needed a way to survive. I didn't think the Lightweaver ability affected that, and the writeup didn't include someone like a Stoneward saving her. -
Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
Jondesu replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Actually, there's a 4th possibility. Drake may not be a Dustbringer at all and is simply trying to convince us he should be saved. I find his story unbelievable, however, and the writeup says it's an Unjust kill to me (a spren couldn't take the axehound away and stab it, after all), so I'm voting strongly in favor of executing Drake. -
I would suspect what he's referencing there is that Silverlight likely doesn't coincide with a physical location that you could reasonably worldhop to, with their current understanding. If it's basically in no-man's-land between planets, then a perpendicularity would drop them into space, but because of the way space is compressed in the Cognitive Realm, even that would be really inexact possibly, and would likely kill them without the proper preparations and equipment or magic anyways.
