Revenge is never justified. Justice, sure, let a court sort it out (but that's not what was going to happen), but trying to flat out murder the guy when he's not trying to hurt you and you know 100% for certain he wasn't in control of his own mind and body when he killed your parents 40 years earlier? Yeah...no chance I could side with Tony. jW

So I went in expecting to be on Cap's team, and I came out solidly on his team, but it's so hard to really judge anyone's motivations. Except Tony's. He's arrogant and short-sighted, and he totally refuses to let go of this concept of vengeance… against the brain-washed super soldier who had absolutely no control over his actions? He knows the story of how that happened. I get being mad he wasn't told that Bucky killed his parents. I don't get him trying to murder Bucky over it. jW

Did TenSoon use them both at once, though? And if so, was it before or after Ruin showed his hand in directly controlling Hemalurgic creations? Ruin may simply have been willing to let him do whatever he wanted, confident in his ability to take control of TenSoon and the other Kandra, never knowing they had a way to thwart him. jW

It's possible, but it's also a crazy dangerous place right now the way the Dor is bottled up in the Cognitive. I suspect before that happened, though, it would have been a place of great symmetry, but also smooth flowing lines. I don't think the other nations on Sel have anything to do with golden light in their magics, though, so that's something that seems to be more uniquely Arelish/Elantrian. Perhaps the Cognitive would be similarly distinguished by the corresponding Physical locations, though? I would love to see the Cognitive Realm for Nalthis. It's probably a mind-boggling explosion of color. jW

I think Preservation chose her almost as a decoy Hero of Ages. He knew Ruin would try to hijack the prophecies, so he hid Sazed's true status as the Hero of Ages and instead fooled Ruin into focusing on Vin, getting her to free him in the end, yes, but also into a position where she could destroy Ruin's mind and set up the situation for Sazed to pick up both Shards. jW

On my way now for a 7:30 showing! jW

I think there were some, but some were Nazh's too. He was sketching the bridgemen in one scene too, but I don't think we saw those. jW

That's the WoB, thanks maxal, and you're right, it's much less definitive than I had been led to understand. Good to see. jW
-
Cool, I hope you're right, maxal. I'm in the camp that would be disappointed now if Adolin doesn't end up reviving his blade, but I don't want to get my hopes up either. jW

I'm also not quite convinced that Voidbinding and the Voidbringers relate to the same thing. The Voidbringers may not use Voidbinding, just their natural ability to metamorphosis with the spren being hijacked by Odium's spren. jW

That goes back to the other theory in that case, which I still think is also a very strong possibility. I like the elegance, as Argent said, but I don't have a ton of evidence of course. I will point to the oft-cited passage in favor of the lesser spren theory, though. Kaladin fighting in the storm, with the windspren swirling around him. While it could lend to that theory, the spren may be attracted to the Stormlight that is literally exploding out of him as he's holding onto and using all he can possibly handle. That "excess" Stormlight is what I picture...almost congealing, kinda like the Shardblades from mist, though likely with a little bit different mechanism. It's not accidental that Brandon didn't include Dalinar actually seeing the helm disappear in his vision, he wanted to keep that a secret and only drop us hints. Totally on the fence here, but now there's more possibilities to discuss. :-) jW

maxal, I remember reading a discussion about a WoB in which he said basically that we hadn't gotten a POV from another Edgedancer yet, and since we've had a POV from Adolin, that seems to rule him out. It's not conclusive of course, but that's what I was referring to. jW
-
He says he's "terribly ineffective" I believe, to someone. It's something along those lines, and along with his reaction to (SH Spoilers) it seems clear he probably can't hurt living people at all. jW
-
That would indeed be a possibility, at least Adolin becoming an Edgedancer. I don't see any way he ends up with lil ol' Lift though. :-P However, there are some WoBs that seem to indicate Adolin won't be the one, or at least make it less likely, so I started thinking about other characters. I think I've settled on a potential candidate, though I don't know for which order: Moash Yep, the traitor. No, what he did wasn't honorable, but from his point of view he thought it was, or perhaps he'll join an order aligned with Cultivation where honor isn't important (or at least not as important). I think he could have the makings of a Dustbriger or Stonewarden perhaps. jW

Don't forget, sometimes these can be tangential, not about the Shards intent. Ati/Ruin could be the Patron Shard of redheads, for example. jW
-
Yeah, pretty sure that's been at least hinted at several times. I think of it like a honeycomb: you store bits of it in parts of the metal, and it eventually fills up, but each bit occupies a specific part of the metal. jW

Oversleep, I'm pretty sure we have a WoB that we haven't actually seen Voidbinding yet. My guess is that what we've seen with the listeners so far is just their natural ability to join with spren, probably predating any of the shards arriving there, and that Voidbinding will involve something entirely different. jW

I didn't think that storing breaths in an object made that object more colorful. Regardless, Yata is correct that I'm thinking it's not that the breaths are stored there, but that they were used or stored somewhere else, and therefore his Biochromatic Aura is diminished (making colors around him no longer seem more vibrant, like they do around those who hold significant numbers of breaths). jW

I suspect that would be antithetical to Odium's intent, but perhaps there's a way to achieve it, probably using some sort of hack. That could be terrifying if so. jW
-
I like the aura/perception explanation for that. I.E. he didn't actually use the color from the coat for awakening, but the resulting lack of heightening cause the coat to look less colorful to others around him. jW

Could also be the Patron Shard of Rehab/Physical Therapy, and Teenagers. O_o jW

Hmm, interesting possibility. We think we know the reason (the Recreance), though we don't know the reason for that, but perhaps there's something else we haven't pieced together. I wonder if the Recreance wasn't voluntary (do we have confirmation either way), and if the Shards/Spren were dead or dying when they were dropped, instead of being killed at that time. jW

Most of us are familiar with the concept of patron saints, or patron gods, such as St Christopher, the patron saint of travelers, or Hermes/Mercury, the closest equivalent in Greek and Roman mythology. Which Shards would be the patron saints of occupations, roles, people and animals, or locations? (This is just for fun, not serious speculation about the Cosmere.) Obviously, Cultivation would be the Patron Shard of gardeners and farmers, but also potentially artists. Ruin would be the Patron Shard of demolition, while Preservation would be the Patron Shard of cryogenics. :-P Harmony could be the Patron Shard of butchers (ruining but then preserving), but of course also of honest politicians. Odium would be the Patron Shard of terrorism, though perhaps of something less terrible too? What other Patron Shards would you offer your spiritweb to? jW

Best Twinborn Combinations (Excluding Compounding)

Drop the attitude, please, we're all here to have good discussion, and even the best of us can be wrong.I'm confused by what you're implying about shadows, though. Both Atium and Electrum shadows are of course affected by and reflect the interactions between you and others. That's why they shift and change as you or your opponent move and attack, because they're showing the possible reactions to the other person's attacks (Atium shadows changed in reaction to what you do, while Electrum shadows change in reaction to what the other person does, reflecting the new range of possibilities). F-Zinc should definitely help process those options and pick the most likely option to succeed. It's not Atium, but it would still be very useful. jW- 111 replies
