Szeth and Screaming-Spren-Swords (spoiler-y ness)
Jondesu replied to KnightRadiant's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think the Plate can be what changes it. There are a number of Shardbearers in the Alethi army with Blade but not Plate, and this isn't something that's ever alluded to with anyone else. jW- 46 replies

Hmm, you're right. Not sure exactly how that'd be done then, at least without adding either hassle or instability. jW

There's not enough detail in the Floridian Atolls to be sure, but either my home is underwater, or a lot of the surrounding area is. jW

I thought it was stated you don't actually draw those, they're just included to help you see where the bind points should be. jW

Szeth and Screaming-Spren-Swords (spoiler-y ness)
Jondesu replied to KnightRadiant's topic in Stormlight Archive
Plenty of Shardbearers have done that, it seems, based on the descriptions we have. I suspect it's more that he did it when it's so antithetical to his view of himself as a peaceful nonviolent Shin, but he's been forced to do it by his culture's laws. jW- 46 replies

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Jondesu replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Replacing the home button on that phone wouldn't be too tough for someone experienced. I've done screen replacements on the 5S models, they're a bit of a pain but totally doable. Listing it as needing that fixed would probably get you someone who felt they could do it and who would still pay a fair amount for the phone, probably more than T-Mobile will give you (I've done a trade-in with them too, though in my case I got an old Blackberry from a family member who wasn't using it in order to get the credit). jW -
The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

For the first time in months, I recorded my initial concepts for a couple nine new songs (using Apple's really cool Music Memos app). I also put out feelers for someone to collaborate with me on my music, which my brother has done, but he's really busy right now. jW -
Myst (Also, Farscape is a TV show, not a video game.)

I think that ones intentional. Preservation couldn't harm, per his mandate, even to achieve a positive result, and that extended even to his direct and worst enemy. Hence "harm even me". jW

Do [ spoiler ] and then [/ spoiler ] at the end, except remove those spaces. EDIT: or just click the third button in the post window (it looks like a colorful square) and it'll let you do Special BBcode, so you can just choose Spoiler from the dropdown there. The Jesker religion involved sacrifices, but I don't know that they qualified as dissections. Do we have more detail on what they did exactly? jW

I was saying I think he wrote the book after Ishar forced the organization on the spren and the Knights. That would make it step 3.5 instead of 2.5. :-) jW

Maybe, but I suspect the book was written after that. Nohadon was more concerned about the actual action of uniting and bringing peace than about writing a book at the time we saw him in Dalinar's vision, and I suspect that persisted until late in life. jW

Escalators

In order:1. The Heralds were either created, changed, or whatever, by Honor, as part of or prior to the Oathpact. 2. The spren learn to imitate the surges and Honorblades, and begin bonding without oaths being required (or ones that are unique to each spren, with no organization). 3. Ishar (a Herald), concerned that Surgebinding is dangerous without checks on its use, forces the Oaths and Organization on the Surgebinders and spren somehow, forming what became the Knights Radiant. 4. The other Heralds eventually take leadership of their respective orders, some grudgingly. Edit: I wonder if the Oathpact has anything to do with the fact that the Oaths are now required to be a Knight Radiant? The naming of it certainly points to that. Perhaps forcing the bonds to use Oaths has somehow led to Odium being trapped. jW

This is why I love having Apple Music: just pulled up and began playing that album. :-). Sounds great so far! jW

I think what we need to ask Brandon is whether the Dor has always been in the Cognitive Realm (since its inception), or if that was a result of something related to the splintering. jW

I think it's because it's gold alloyed with atium. Gold is just a metal, but Atium is Ruin's body, or power, or both. Thus, the gold effects are powered and changed by the atium. jW

That's what I would wonder. We know essentially what the Shards are, and they're only as potentially artificial as Adolnasium was. The Shardholders, or Vessels, however...jW

I probably am not the first person to bring this up, but it strikes me as odd that it's pointed out that the Shaod usually takes people at night (even before the Reod). Why is that? Are we more susceptible to changes in our sDNA when we're not in conscious control of our bodies, or is the Cognitive Realm less active, leading to the Dor being more easily able to infuse people? Or am I just overthinking this? jW
-
Pretty sure I've seen a WoB saying there are more spren now after the splintering of Honor, though not more types. It's entirely possible they acted as a release valve, but considering Honor's power isn't raging unchecked in the Cognitive, that might not have been needed. jW

Ah, thanks! There definitely seems to be something going on there, and I hadn't put those together yet. Good find, but I suspect we'll have to learn more before we can figure out anything else. I would put my money on something other than a Herald I think, but your reasoning is sound, despite being based on the tiny bit of evidence we have available. jW

That part with Mraize talking about him is what I can't find. jW

It's suspected that the Dawn Cities were created through the use of the "Dawnshards", whatever they are/were, back in the ancient history of Roshar, from the way it's talked about. As for Tezim, I can't find the reference you mentioned. I can find when Dalinar talked to Au-nak, Hatham, and the ardent about the Tukari and Emuli, as well as Tezim, but only a brief reference (and that's in Way of Kings, not Words of Radiance). That certainly doesn't seem to indicate anything special that I can determine. Can you point me in the right direction (preferably with a chapter, I have ebooks so page numbers don't help much). jW

I had the same thought, but it may have just been from you or someone else saying it. I don't recall seeing a WoB specifically. I did find this that covers half of it, though: From this thread: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6605-words-of-brandon-compiled/ jW
