Could a Shardblade block Nightblood. jW

We don't have any confirmation that I'm aware of, and I'm of the opinion it's reversed. I even made a thread about it: Alignment of the Shards on Sel jW

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Jondesu replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
So in Angry Birds 2 there is an Arena mode where you compete against other players (though not live), and win stars based on how many points you win by, which are then used to rank the players. In the Diamond League, which is the top league, I got the best score for the tournament period (one week), which means for that week...I was literally the best player in the game, in the entire world. Just wish I'd thought to take a screenshot. jW -

Is it just me or do you really don't like Navani
Jondesu replied to Megan's topic in Stormlight Archive
Incidentally, that's why I like him. Yes, it's disgusting and pitiful, but it's also how I feel most of the time myself. I can truly identify with him, and it sometimes helps me see that maybe my mind is making me think things that aren't true. jW -

@The Invested Beard Thanks! :-) jW

Sounds about right.

While in concept they can be interesting, I'm starting to feel like all the "Sanderson vs Marvel", "Vin vs Iron Man", "Kelsier vs Magneto", and even the "Roshar vs Scadrial" threads are just clogging up the Cosmere Theories forum, and we're seeing a lot of similar threads rather than combining them. Can we maybe direct those to another area, particularly since they're not really Cosmere theories for the most part? jW

Hoid in The Emperor's Soul (Major Spoilers)
Jondesu replied to Stranker's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Just kinda wondering if Hoid can use it to help him figure out or use other magic systems. It's Hoid, if there's a way, he'll find it. :-) jW -
Hoid in The Emperor's Soul (Major Spoilers)
Jondesu replied to Stranker's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Hmm, I thought I'd heard that. Does it only work for the Selish magic systems? jW -
Did we get a WoB about that? I don't recall seeing confirmation that the pool on First of the Sun wasn't a Shardpool: I had been assuming it was, but that we didn't have confirmation for sure. jW

Hoid Theory 16729438 (Acronym, and height)
Jondesu replied to Aliroz-The-Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I meant that the Hoids we've seen have all been the same person. Elantris to Scadrial to Roshar: one person. It's not been stated in that way exactly because that isn't the way it's been asked, but it's basically confirmed by the way many WoBs speak of Hoid. Not saying I couldn't be wrong, but I was pretty sure we knew that much. jW -
Hoid Theory 16729438 (Acronym, and height)
Jondesu replied to Aliroz-The-Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think it's been confirmed there's only one Hoid (at present), not counting certain unpublished works. jW -
So I just realized that I could totally write a song based on The Stormlight Archives that would actually be enjoyable for people who have never heard of Sanderson, but extra enjoyable for those of us who have. I wrote up a portion of some possible verses, but wanted to see if anyone here would be interested in collaborating on it. I'm tentatively calling it "Riding the storm" or "Light in my veins". Edit: here's what I have so far: Those are just snippets of ideas, not necessarily the way or order in which I'd use them. Edit 2: Only somewhat related, but I just publish a blog post about songwriting if anyone's interested: https://hairynerdchin.wordpress.com/2016/06/23/songwriting/ jW

I'm in season 2 of The Musketeers, a BBC series that I found on Hulu just recently. Really good, and the fighting largely seems like accurate fighting styles and moves for the era, though some of it is obviously just to look good. Other than that, we regularly watch Castle (now ended), The Flash, Bones, Once Upon A Time, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I also watch Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow on my own, as well as NCIS on a very occasional basis, and if we don't have a lot of time or are feeling in a mood for humor, we'll watch Whose Line Is It Anyway (the UK version is on Hulu right now). jW

Yeah, I've been trying to think of a name that would encompass that new combination of intents, but no luck yet. jW

As Angel said, it is now a Shard, as well as being a combination. If Adolnasium had shattered into 15 Shards instead of 16, it's conceivable that one could have been what we know as Harmony; the Shards aren't completely distinctive from each other as much as they are just pieces of the same original whole, so merging two is definitely possible. It simply won't be a 100% complete merge for a long time. They're still effectively one Shard now, and would drop as Harmony instead of Ruin and Preservation, per WoB. jW

Devotion and Dominion are very compatible Shards, so it's very possible their interaction didn't result in multiple magic systems, but rather the regionalized system we see. I don't doubt that things changed dramatically, but I suspect that many parts of it were already set and couldn't really change. Yes, the source changed, if we're correct about those Shards power not being based in the Cognitive previously (though that may simply be one of the unique things about Sel and could have been the case prior), but that doesn't mean that AonDor or any of the other magic systems Initiations changed dramatically. jW

A war between Scadrial (era 2) and Roshar
Jondesu replied to Bowiespoon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The mists didn't give allomantic power. They simply snapped people that hadn't or wouldn't have otherwise. jW -
@Chaos, in regards to the thread icons, would it be easier or hard to simply enlarge the click targets? I find that's actually a bigger deal, especially on mobile with the somewhat imprecise finger tapping. jW

A war between Scadrial (era 2) and Roshar
Jondesu replied to Bowiespoon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's not that the mistfallen had weaker genes due to being snapped by the mists, but that ska have weaker Allomantic genes in the first place. Note that even though the bloodlines had mixed a good bit by the events in the books, there were still no skaa Allomancers that we know of that weren't a result of a noble father taking a skaa woman. jW -
Indeed we don't, but I think it's a reasonable assumption for now. Hopefully at some point we'll find out. jW

Which is why I agree with the theory that it's Bonds that are the core of Rosharan magic instead, since Fabrials involve binding Spren to a machine, or we're not sure, but older ones might not have involved Spren, but something else. Bonds and binding things together seems to be at the heart of all Rosharan magic we've seen. I don't know if that would apply to any exclusively Cultivation-based or Odium-based magic, since Surgebinding seems to be a blend of Honor+Cultivation. jW
