I've tried my hand at songwriting and haven't gotten far yet in terms of recorded or finished songs, but I have a few. Depression and illness have a way of bringing out songs from some songwriters, I've heard, but so far they've only dampened that in me, but I've recently begun trying harder again. My songs are usually Christian in theme, some simple hymns repurposed, others original. I've started trying to write some that are just about my life or things I see around me too, like one for my kids. I have one song available online, but it's not really what I intended it to be, since I didn't get my vision across to my friend that mastered it for me. You can hear it if you're interested anyways at noisetrade.com/walker I'll probably post some of my works in progress on my blog, so I can link to that when I do as well. jW

First, I agree with the common belief that Devotion would be require to access some magics on Sel, while others require Dominion (and some perhaps a blending of the two). This is true despite the Dor now being a combination of both Shard's magic, probably combined so thoroughly now as to be nigh-inseparable, because the magic systems were created before the splintering and would this follow the rules of one intent or both in Initiation to the various magic systems. However, I think we have the two swapped, due to a mistaken definition of Dominion. Brandon has drawn influence from a number of places, but one of the most common is unsurprisingly from the Bible, particularly the Old Testament. The first reference to dominion comes quite early, in Genesis, when Adam and Eve are given dominion over the land, to tend and tame it (after being sent out from the already perfect Garden of Eden). I think this is the definition Brandon drew from, and Elantrians are drawn from those who are inextricably tied to the land and its welfare. Galladon was a farmer, in Duladel, sure, but it's been noted that it's close enough to the Arelon borders, and perhaps the closer parts of Duladel were once part of Arelon. The others all cared deeply about Arelon in one way or another, even Shaor, though in her case it was a selfish interest (I want everything this land and it's people can give me). Shu-Dereth, on the other hand, requires fanatical Devotion, to the point of giving ones life for the person above you in the hierarchy, but note also that everyone is devoted to the person above them, no matter how small. Also, the only requirement to have Arelon and Teod (and presumably the other nations they conquered) was that the rulers profess devotion to Jaddeth. This is likely a perversion of Devotion's intent, but would fit nonetheless. That also means that I believe the Shardpool outside Elantris is Dominion's Shardpool, while Devotion's Shardpool is likely in Fjordell, perhaps even in the Wyrn's cavern (if I remember that detail correctly). jW

I had to go look up what Sycla was. I agree, I think that Devotion's Shardpool is in Fjordell, and Dominion's is the one next to Elantris. I know, swapped from what most people think. I need to go see if I should put this into a new thread or if there's a good one that's not too old. jW

1. The Lord of the Rings (I'll count those as one unless I have trouble.) 2. The Three Musketeers 3. Eragon (you didn't require a good movie) 4. Harry Potter (again, technically 7 books and 8 movies, but I feel like a challenge) 5. Peter Pan 6. The Man in the Iron Mask 7. Mary Poppins 8. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 9. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe 10. The Shining 11. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 12. Patriot Games 13. The Hunt for the Red October 14. The Count of Monte Cristo 15. The Jungle Book (a satisfying ending) Edit: I just realized I did this list a disservice by not including any TV shows. So, Sherlock and Elementary (two very different takes on the same original material), Legend of the Seeker (from Wizard's First Rule and its sequels, albeit loosely), Robin Hood, and The Sword of Shannara at least will make do for now. Oh, and The Musketeers, which I'm watching currently. WLIU: Name 10 historic dynasties, from different nations if possible. By family name, not merely a nation where they reigned.

The box itself is ordinary, but Brandon's slippery. Glys may still have been hiding in it many times, even though the box itself is ordinary. jW

Good for you giving blood, Kaymyth! That sucks though, sorry it had to be so tough. jW -
My take on a possible ways to return from the dead

I was pretty sure we had a WoB that both the Pits and the Well have ceased to exist (as Shardpools, the Pits of Hathsin seem to still exist as a geological formation). jW -
Edit: If you saw what I said, ignore it, I was wrong about the activity streams. I doubt that having a bunch of streams creates a significant amount of work for the server, though. jW

Safari on OS X, and I'm using a custom CSS style sheet set up within the browser. @Chaos, standing by. :-) I'm away from home at the moment anyways. jW

I suspect that was Prof being…imprecise. He was one of the first group of Epics, but the ones that around about a year later, I'd presume. I do find it possible that Dawnslight and others were created earlier, and people didn't think they were Epics, or perhaps some things like that aren't actually Epics, but perhaps a similar effect on non-human lifeforms, like plants and animals? jW

Ooh, thanks! That tells me how to enlarge them. :-) EDIT: And… nope, didn't work. Ugh, really thought that would do the trick. jW

All three of The Lord of the Rings films are on there, I believe. (Unless they're counted as a single film.) Citizen Kane? The Bourne Identity? The Matrix? EDIT: I was bad and looked, and only one of mine was correct (Citizen Kane). Since I looked, I won't contribute any more. jW

So I decided to try testing if I could make the icons next to unread topics larger (the circle or star), but I'm having trouble making it happen with a custom stylesheet for my browser. Anyone have any suggestions for how to make that work? jW

I like the idea of Odium being behind the Hierocracy. One note, though: the Stormfather is not just Honor's cognitive shadow, and the highstorms existed before Honor's death. jW

She acted like one to his eyes, sure, and she didn't know or remember much if anything, but the bond was forming nonetheless. jW

I was assuming spheres would be around, at least some. As for the quote, I think I'm referencing the wrong one, but I remember Kaladin thinking about something she said and realizing she was with him even back when he was fighting in the army. jW

Syl remembers "helping him kill" back that far. He was even then using Stormlight unconsciously, and the men he fought with could see the effects even if they didn't know why. jW

Thanks, that's the one. I thought it was good as a theory. :-) jW

I've never seen that posited, exactly, but what I have seen suggested is that the 16 that shattered Adolnasium somehow (probably unknowingly) caused the Shards to split with the Intents they did, rather than creating or affecting those Intents when they picked up the resulting Shards. One really good topic even posited that it was the mindset of each of the 16 that caused it: Ati believed what he was doing was ruinous, but for a worthwhile purpose, Leras thought he was preserving the Cosmere, Rayse just hated Adolnasium and/or the others, Tanavast believed what they were doing was honorable, etc. If I can track down that thread, I'll edit this post to include it. jW

Ooh, shiny, I just noticed that on iOS, if I save a link on the home screen, I get a nice new icon instead of a "preview" of the page that looked like nothing. Looks awesome. jW

I didn't read the whole thread, but my one request: can the icons next to topics be made a bit larger, at least on mobile? I use those constantly to jump to the latest unread post, and they're a bit harder to hit with a tap than they were. Edit: one more thing I just found. If I click a topic in the activity feed, it takes me to the beginning of the topic, instead of the new post. I still have to click that tiny circle or star. I'd prefer the opposite behavior. Minor niggle there. Otherwise, love it! The new editor is great, too, especially with the nice spoiler option even on mobile. jW
