Well that sounds important. And surprisingly not proving or disproving much of anything in the post you quoted.

Adonalsium’s Shattering – New Mandate (Intent) Theory
natc replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If we use the name that way it kind of defeats the point of using that particular English word, no? He's functionally splinter-like, pretty undeniable, but he wasn't a result of a shard-splintering process (be it applied to the self or a deliberate murder attempt). You're less smashing a wooden plank and taking a single piece and more just gluing a bunch of plant cells together until it's big enough for whatever bizarre experiment you needed splinters of wood for.- 16 replies

The nature of magic on worlds devoid of living shards is an interesting issue to look into, now that you bring it up. I wonder how it worked on Taldain . . .

Once you've in there, it's hard to leave, and everyone refuses to change their views on certain matters like a stubborn stick. Duralumin mistings are like eggs.

Mistborn, Preservation (Mistborn 3 spoilers)
natc replied to shinigamisid's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'd actually say the plan went off without a hitch. The end goal was to eliminate Ruin. That can't be done as long as Leras was still Preservation. The only way was to "screw up" and let Ruin kill him, and then gamble on convincing the chosen new Vessel into committing to a kamikaze attack somehow. When Elend let Marsh kill him Ruin was officially outplayed by a thousands-of-years-old gambit.- 11 replies

Mistborn, Preservation (Mistborn 3 spoilers)
natc replied to shinigamisid's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Preservation has been on the brink of death for years and practically braindead for millenia keeping Ruin contained. The mists were running on auto, or he'd have done something about Ruin boosting the lethality of it. Or had stopped Vin from killing the Lord Ruler with it. The man was a tyrant, but he was the epitome of Preserving in that era. As for Vin . . . well, get to Mistborn: Secret History. Though you might want to finish Bands of Mourning first. To put it vaguely it's all about Connection to the power. Even if Preservation wasn't dying he couldn't give his power to any random joe if he tried.- 11 replies

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
natc replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I'd like to point out that, when one goes before the Nightwatcher, she doesn't have to actually give you what you asked for. Only what she thinks you deserve. And then curses you somehow. It could be related, it could be completely unrelated and random. -
They don't need to be able to see the future, only the Unmade has to, and it's likely a Cognitive entity. It just has to grant them the knowledge somehow, maybe hijack their speech.

Hoid with the bead of Lerasium (Spoilers)
natc replied to FlailingMunchies's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Occam's Razor shouldn't really be as solid as an argument when the author himself says that the person has explicitly been doing things we wouldn't expect them to do. In response to being asked about the validity of Theory #1. -
Adonalsium’s Shattering – New Mandate (Intent) Theory
natc replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Nightblood as a phenomenon would not be a splinter, since he's built up from smaller pieces rather than broken off if a larger shard. He does function in a similar manner, however. An artificial "spren" of sorts, and shardblade by consequence of his body.- 16 replies

How would some of the Metal Arts react to other magic systems
natc replied to Bowiespoon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
They're gods, and god metals aren't even new elements. They could honestly solidify themselves as whatever they want, in my opinion. Vasher is an invested normal object. There's nothing special about his flesh at all, realmatically, and for all we know it's probably possible to hack allomancy in order to burn breath. That's not even remotely a good comparison to a sword made out of a splinter. -
Every island is Roshar is atop a dead Tai-na
natc replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe Shinovar, the "weirdly Earthlike (or I guess Yolen-like)" place was there first, and then the crem just piled up on one side? On the topic of Tai-na being non-terrestrial, neither are whales. This isn't Earth crustacean biology, it sort of depends on whether their ancestors were purely terrestrial or purely aquatic. They're basically the dominant type of animal, morphological history can be pretty diverse. -
You could even turn drapes into an arm complete with muscles bulging as it flexed, IIRC. There's really no point to making metal objects for awakening unless it's soulcast from living matter, or you're just trying to make another shardblade.

Mistborn, Preservation (Mistborn 3 spoilers)
natc replied to shinigamisid's topic in General Brandon Discussion
But they can't, not on purpose. Elend wasn't . . . whatever it is that Vin was. The mists had an affinity towards her from the beginning. And then Vin Ascended and she did basically give the mist-effect to him because someone is finally controlling the power again, unlike before when they were autonomous.- 11 replies

Well, it appears we're getting a "going between dimensions to save them from doom" premise with Apocalypse Guard, so that's a thing.

Almost can't blame him for passing on so fast. Thousand years of that, and he can't even bring himself to care anymore now that he's dead. "I've had enough of this crap, I'm outta here. See you in the Beyond once the world ends."
-
Well NOW, there isn't even a Well to hop to. Secret History is over three hundred years in the past and that's when Hoid rode in on spanky. Pits were destroyed before thst, and he would have used the Pits before they were gone. There is atium there. That is literally the subject matter you kinda helped start
-
Well, it might help a little, but dying from hypothermia on a mild spring day is kinda extreme. Also, the Sovereign took ten years to show up, Harmony didn't really do anything.

It was a photo of Calamity, but more importantly you can see everything else in his surroundings. He needs to know where you actually are to get there.

Did anyone figure our the nature of Vin's earring before the reveal?
natc replied to NeutroniumAlchemist's topic in Mistborn
I figured something was amiss when she dunked herself into the Well. Wasn't sure what though. It took until Ruin vanishing after it came off in HoA to figure it out -
Well, one god conspired, and the other created something out of his power out of necessity and this is the result. Secret History spoiler:

Gravityspren have nothing to do with Parshendi and everything to do with most large animals on this planet. And yeah, you don't wear gems to look good? Well, I don't, but that's like the most normal use for gems out there.

Every island is Roshar is atop a dead Tai-na
natc replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
Earth crustaceans are generally aquatic to begin with though, right? A lot of Rosharan crustaceans are terrestrial. Since that's basically all that lives there. -
So yeah, you just killed an innocent fellow in order to stall the end of the world, then tried to save it but instead ruined the entire biosphere, and barely pulled off a patch job to hold it together by metaphorical duct tape and chewing gum. You failed to dispose of the eldritch god of doom that you killed the guy to stop in the first place. Your only plan is to wait and try again. For a thousand and twenty-four years. With the god clearly whispering in your mind. He can read your writing. Your thoughts are safe, but which are yours and which are his? Meanwhile the world is just short of oblivion (because of you) and it's all you can do to keep it together long enough so that you can take the power again and figure out a course of action before it runs out again. And it runs out pretty fast. You have an Empire to run, but with no experience in government whatsoever and have to just wing it. And of course, as with any dictatorship, they try to stage coups all the time because people are people. After a few decades, in order to make sure your age alteration continues to keep you alive you must forgo sleep and live 24 hours a day fully conscious or the tapping stops. No pressure, Rashek.
