Yeah, that. The actual pole would pretty much be searing hot at worse and not much better off at best. Probably hotter than Luthadel, considering the South's temperature tolerance. The oceans are boiling too, so no dice. Magnetic South is out too because the ashy atmosphere would kill them.

The push itself could probably be made lethal too though. That's the thing, he's so powerful that it shouldn't even really take effort. He slapped Kelsier to death in one hit after taking three spears to the chest without flinching. Killing Vin isn't inherently difficult. He was just too busy venting his annoyance at the scenario unfolding (that has been done to death by now, in his opinion) to act seriously and then got taken down by a literal act of god.

How would some of the Metal Arts react to other magic systems

I find that story funny. Scadrial just got motorcars and aluminum is still expensive; they have energy blasters. -
Adonalsium’s Shattering – New Mandate (Intent) Theory

You can be a nice and generous person while being a firm believer of the eventuality of death, I guess. Someone else here convinced me of it.- 16 replies

Avatar: The Last Windrunner. Needs to be a thing. But yeah, looking down all the time isn't any more natural than flying upside down, to me anyway. Just pretend you are bungee jumping or leaping off a diving board. Head first it is! Probably faster anyway.

That would probably look a bit awesome, if somewhat seizure-inducing, yes. Though actually the color aura would be distracting. All surrounding white turning rainbow and all that. -
The three moons of roshar are giant gem stones
natc replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, yes, a planet that doesn't move will just crash into the sun, that much is obvious. But since moons orbit the planet itself that's not really an immediately relevant issue. Taln's Scar wouldn't be anywhere comparably close to Roshar the way the moons are, and lunar orbit has little to do with star cluster positions. Either way, most evidence points to highstorms being mostly a Stormfather thing. Moonlight is too stable to be from infusion, too. If it pulsed I think it would've been mentioned in the books somehow, for worldbuilding's sake. -

Does tin allomancy affect vision based on light sensitivity of your eyes? Does the cognitive realm even have "light" in the same sense, and where would it even be coming from when you've got the strangeness that is backwards shadows going on? Objects made of matter can be brought in and out, but do they look the same because everyone thinks they should, or because they're still made of atoms (which allomancy hinges on). It's it's how perception functions in what is essentially an entirely virtual space that I'm stuck on here. I'd like to know what would happen in your situation either way, it would be satisfying. But what allomancy would do without physical existence is an important question, especially when we've never seen anyone use magic we're familiar with in any cognitive realm scenes, beyond those that are specifically designed to interact with that realm. To begin with, this began with me wondering while you would need to do all of that to get there instead of the simple approach, but then a tangent occurred and I apologize. -

What do senses have to do with being drunk? It's all alcohol and your brain. If anything the cognitive realm is probably the one place where consciousness works as one would expect. It's made of thought and all. -

With no axial tilt and the timing between moonsets and moonrises (are those actual words?) being apparently very precise, there's not all that much room for shifting. Obviously the orbits have to be elliptical to work at all, but if they don't share an orbit then they still wouldn't be too far apart in orbits. What kind of lining up are we talking about here? If it's the eclipse sort it's impossible already. If side by side, the description suggests that's impossible too. -

And then the metal stops. It's questionable if human senses even work the same way in a realm presumably devoid of normal matter. -
I wonder if it's possible to "half-key" a metalmind . . . say, while at 50% identity. It'd still be locked, of course, but is there a mechanical difference if not a functional one? Would that make faking the necessary identity with soulforging or some other such method be easier? Is 0% identity even actually possible, or are "unkeyed" metalminds just below some threshold where the identity stops being an issue? I ask this because apparently multiple nicrosil charges from different people still cause interference in a person tapping the charges.

The only reason Scadrial money was metal is because . . . well, other than paper what else would you make it out of? Gems have both an important cultural meaning on Roshar and have practical value as soulcasting catalysts, powering of fabrials, lighting, etc. Stormlight infusion as a phenomenon makes forgery of gem currency basically impossible. A very logical choice ny Roshar logic (because everything is already weird there )

Since control+F for "storm" turned up nothing on the first page I assume this isn't directed at me? . . . what? They rise and set in exact sequence every night, without change. -

natc replied to Bowiespoon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
. . . well metallic arts won't really function in a realm with no physical metal to speak of unless you actually send your whole body there with some. If at all possible. Most of those things wouldn't even get you any closer to the cognitive in the first place. -
The concept of a normal hot spring is apparently common sense to Rock and . . . was it Sigzil? So they definitely have naturally heated water elsewhere in the world. The question ought to be broader I guess.

You can't really see where you're going feet first. Trust me, crashing isn't fun.

A combination of not taking opponents seriously and Vin achieving the supposedly impossible via literal Deus Ex Machina (god and all) did him in sadly. The guy can theoretically poke you in the forehead with one finger and blow your whole head off . . . before you could even blink. He can push trace metals, which all humans should have in them. Probably with the force of duralumin, and you'll be a bloodstain on the wall. Never mind the immortality issue, he ought to be able to wipe out entire cities in a matter of hours. He basically has dozens of I Win Buttons and invincibility hacks to boot, what more do you want from an invested being?

You don't have to actually run to go fast while steelrunning. That's actually pretty nice too. If you're traveling and aren't the one paying attention to the steering wheel store away. Have all the survival comforts too, as hoidhunter points out. With modern technology we actually exert ourselves less, so some of the attributes are far easier to come by.

Or you can just elsecall into it or dive into a Perpendicularity like a sane individual. -

Since when did the moons have anything to do with highstorms? I don't remember that. -
Scadrial's cognitive realm has solid obsidian oceans too, though.

But what would adding damaged "genes" to a person even do if their own copy of that gene is functional? It shouldn't quite have the same effect. It would do something (assuming the whole crack manages to exist over a single bind point in the first place) the same way stacking cstrength into one person causes all those side effects, but what is eventually expressed in the physical realm is not necessarily the same "phenotype" as a normal savant.
-
When you were God for five minutes it shouldn't be difficult to remake your soul into something overpowered. He isn't even a lerasium mistborn to begin with. Plus, he could just store and tap normally as well. This won't explain his emotional allomancy, but it would for most other things.

Not all children of feruchemists have the power, and only people with active feruchemical abilities became mistwraiths. That argument is flawed, as Terris obviously still exist.
