I've heard the whole "invested metal is harder to push/pull" on the forums before...but you could have fooled me. I would think that shard plate or shard blade must be much more invested that a simple metal mind that is filled to the brim. Several people have already pointed out that Wax frequently pushes on Wayne's metal mind bracers. There is also the instance of Marsh pushing a bag of rings that are (I think) completely full of Sazed attributes. I think that if you are a feruchemist...piercings have to be the way to go.

I have to go with Scadrial/Roshar. I think I would want to be a twinborn steel compounder/edgedancer. Brandon has said that one of the only limitations of how fast a steel compounder could move would be friction and wind resistance. Being an edge dancer would nullify that limitation, allowing you to move CRAZY fast. On top of that...stormlight would amplify healing, strenght, etc...I would be able to heal other people (which come on...that would be cool) add being a coinshot onto being a super fast friction free superhuman...nuff said...

Theory: The Stormlight Archive is collected by the Ghostbloods

I agree...I might actually be able to make it to one of his signings in the next couple of weeks...I think I might end up asking about Felt...just to get it from the horses mouth so to speak. Anyone have any advice on how to work the question to get the most info with out getting RAFO'd?- 14 replies

sweet man...now...if I can make it to one of the signings...I can ask a different question.

I just finished a reread of WoA...when it discusses Rashek and the beads of lerasium...it says that he found them at the well.
-
Well...there are a few other hints that we have been given I guess... I think there is a WoB out there about a shard that just wants to survive and is hiding from odium. That being said...I doubt it would be anything as obvious as Survival...but who knows.... I also remember reading that one of the upcoming books is going to involve a system of magic that empowers the deathly ill or disabled. What intent would create such a magic...fatality?

If I were a feruchemist...or an allomancer...I would always have metal that pierced my skin...right?

True...hoid has not been "awake" for all of this time...do you think that I am wrong about his motives?

the most useless uses for useful powers
hoidhunter replied to king of nowhere's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is far from useless...but...awaken the computer that does payroll where you work with "pay me too much". Awaken a dirty shirt with command "Don't be wrinkled" Awaken your boss's chair with command "Don't get sat in". And watch the fun... Awaken your overly social friend's cellphone with command "make gross fart sounds instead of ringing". Store a lot of connection in hopes that it prevents someone from telling you a story... -
The very fact that he would mention his former mentor thousands of years after the guy died makes me think that he is still driven by his dedication to the man's work...saving humanity...sometimes despite themselves...

Plot to Destroy Adonalsium - CONFIRMED BY BRANDON
hoidhunter replied to imriel452's topic in Cosmere Discussion
At the time of the Shattering, Adonalsium was consciously opposed by something, and that thing is still around.[3 this is directly from the coppermind page on adonalsium that refferenced a QandA with Brandon. So...it doesn't tell us much about the nature of this mysterious force...only that it is still around.- 66 replies

Theory: The Stormlight Archive is collected by the Ghostbloods
hoidhunter replied to ChullRider's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Has anyone been able to positively confirm that Felt is a world hopper? My very first post on coppermind was positing that they were actually the same person...I have later come to feel that it is more likely that they are not...and that Felt is simply a run of the mill worldhopper...but has anyone ever gotten a WoB on this?- 14 replies

Plot to Destroy Adonalsium - CONFIRMED BY BRANDON
hoidhunter replied to imriel452's topic in Cosmere Discussion
opposing is a synonym of opposite...oppose, opposing, opposed, opposite, opponent, and opposition all share the same word root with different suffixes. This means that they convey a very similar idea, with the different suffixes making each more applicable depending on context. So...that actually is how definitions work. If you oppose something you are taking a contrary (or opposite) position to it. Much like how kurkistan is opposed to my post (his post expresses a opposite point of view to my own...but both are posts on 17th shard) but because he is not opposed to me...he doesn't have to be the antithesis of all that I am. I wasn't necessarily suggesting that in order for something to oppose adonalsium it has to be an evil identical twin....but being that this mysterious force is opposed to adonalsium itself...and not opposed to something that adonalsium does...it would be safe to say that it was the antithesis of all that adonalsium is (or...was?). To elaborate...for something to do a good job of opposing a godlike force...it would sure help if was on the same level power wise. (the heros in mistborn were opposed to ruin...but it wasn't until Vin became preservation, ruins opposite, that they were able to do much about it) ie...taveren is opposed to walmart...so he probably doesn't shop there often...but I doubt that Walmart as a whole really cares that much...or is even aware of his opposition. If he was the owner of a similar chain of supermarkets that were managed under drastically different ethical principals and stole buisness away from walmart...he would be doing a better job of opposing them. (it also might be more accurate to say that you are opposed to the ideas and practices of walmart ((as I doubt that you have a problem with every person who does or has ever worked for or done business with the company or the buildings themselves)) in which case...your ideas as to how such a business should be managed ARE opposite to that of walmart.) When Brandon talks about a force that opposes adonalsium...I assume that he is not referring to a person who chooses not to shop at adonalsium's chain of supermarkets...but rather something that has the capability to do a good job of opposing adonalsium. Otherwise...why would he bother to mention it?- 66 replies

No problem. I'm really curious about this moon scepter thing. there has to be something really special about it for Hoid to want it. I guess it's possible that he simply set up Shai to get caught...setting into motion her successfully forging the emperor's soul...but that doesn't jive with me. If I can ever make it to a book signing...I'm totally going to ask Brandon what Hoid wants with the moon scepter.
-
This post was way back there...but...Thanks for sharing this...you answered a question that has been bugging me for a while..."Where do the faceless immortals get the hema-spikes that the pathians use?" up vote... I could have sworn that Wax mentions the earring being made of steel when he first describes going through his daily prayer...so I went back and read that part...and alas...I was wrong. He simply describes it as "a simple thing, stamped on the head with the 10 interlocking rings of the Path."
-
Right...Hoid was the name of someone that Hoid should have loved...he has since assumed the name...as far as I know...there are not 2 different Hoids.

Are you by any chance confusing feruchemy with hemelurgy? I wasn't under the impression that feruchemy was very harmful to anyone...
-
Right...I knew I had seen this somewhere...there's also a WoB out there somewhere that mentions Hoid using the Connection part of Feruchemy as a way of connection himself to the different worlds that he visits...and that this somehow relates to how he used the different planets' systems of magic. I just didn't remember ever "seeing" him use feruchemy in any of the books...thanks for the WoB. On a side note...I mentioned that we have never seen Hoid stamp anything...what do you think wanted the "Moon Scepter" for?

this is totally unrelated...but I just noticed that your profile pic is Spike and Viscious's confrontation in ballad of fallen angels...up vote for good taste in anime...

Well...I was under the impression that in order for it to be hemelurgy (ie ruin's influence over you) it had to be done with a hemelurgical spike. Meaning...one that had been driven through someone's body, removing a piece of their soul, killing them, and attaching that snack size soul bit to yours. Not just any piece of metal that pierces your body....?

Plot to Destroy Adonalsium - CONFIRMED BY BRANDON
hoidhunter replied to imriel452's topic in Cosmere Discussion
begin wild conjecture: In the sample (unfinished...therefore non-canon) chapter of LoP, we get to see Hoid before he was a worldhopper...as we know that Hoid was present for the shattering of Adonalsium, we can assume that at this point in the story...Adonalsium was still intact. In the sample chapter, we learn that some force is slowly killing off humanity on this planet (I assume Yolen). It seems like some form of creeping decay that can only be kept at bay by...I think it's "fayne rings"? Which appears to be some kind of protective barrier that slows down this force from infecting certain areas. I propose that this slowly destructive force is...or is a symptom of...this attack on Adonalsium. Following this factually un-based line of reasoning...Adonalsium had to change it's form (shatter) in order to stop this attack from wiping out all of humanity. This changing of form sacrificed Adonalsuim's singular sentience, but left it's power behind, much in the same way that Leras sacrificed himself in order to prevent Ruin from destroying all life on Scadrial....knowing (or at least hoping) that future events could put the situation to right were he himself could not. Furthermore: perhaps the "injection" of undesirable intent (ie Ruin, Odium) was the form of attack, which caused all that he had created to become corrupt. "He" then segmented himself into different pieces hoping that further down the road these undesirables could be removed before he was reformed into one, once again. (like taking an engine apart into pieces in order to remove all of the rust before reassembling it) Conclude wild conjecture: by the way...imreal gets and up vote for sharing...- 66 replies

I hate sourcing WoB...so I'm not going to. I do however remember reading one where Brandon states that most shards are not paired the way preservation and Ruin were. The fact that those 2 shard occupied the same world was a result of their similar/opposing nature. I don't think that we can count on finding and ideological opposite for each shard we know of in order to guess what they will be. I've racked my brain long and hard trying to figure out the unknown shards myself...but with what we have been given...they could really be anything. It's fun to try and guess though. Here are a few of my guesses: Unity - Awareness - Presence - Mystery - Finality - Perfection - Independence - Perception I (obviously) don't know for sure if I'm getting any of these right...but...I feel that the concepts behind some of the words may be correct. Now...I am not a spiritual person myself...and I have NO idea how seriously Brandon takes the theological concepts of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints...but there is something in christianity called the "divine attributes" that refer to the different qualities that God exhibits...or is made of...or something. If you read into these (I think there are somewhere around 27...although not all of them are agreed upon) you will find that many of them bear some similarity to the known shards. Also...there are a few of these "divine attributes" that seem to be quite similar to one another...and could very easily be grouped together to express a roughly similar idea. Look into it and see for yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attributes_of_God_in_Christianity That being said...there are also a few known shards that do not seem to fit any of the divine qualities without quite a bit of logical massaging. As I said...I could very easily be wrong...but what do you guys think?

Sooo...After reading the unfinished sample chapter of LoP...I feel I've come to a little bit of a better understanding of Hoid. It seems that in the beginning of this story...he is very much a mortal man. One that was brought from the brink of death by his mentor...Hoid. He has decided to dedicate himself to saving the people of his land (continuing is mentor's work)...even if it costs him his life. I am willing to bet that he actually proceeds to impersonate his former mentor, finishing his work in the original Hoid's name. I may be jumping to conclusions, but I would guess that what ever he is up to in the whole of the cosmere is an extension of this. While his mentor selflessly and thanklessly dedicated himself to saving one world...Hoid must dedicate himself to saving all of creation in his mentor's name now that he is aware of the threat.
