  1. Metal (any kind really) form fitted thin skull cap with a wig over top... Prince albert...not my style really...but for super powers?...maybe... Really fine thin chainmail shirt made of rings of all feruchemal metals you want to use, worn under your clothing... copy Sazed's move and swallow a few bits each morning (recovery would be unpleasant)...but, all in the name of superpowers... On that note...unpleasant but I'm sure we're all thinking it...endorectal?...might actually be less uncomfortable than passing metal after swallowing it... It's a little emo...but...cut open a flap of skin somewhere, put a little bit of steel and pewter in there...then stitch it back up...just leave it there... byt the way...Lord Piff's idea about metal teeth is gold...up vote...
  2. I'm considering making a 4 hour drive to attend the San Diego signing. Haven't made up my mind yet. This would be my first...do I need to sign up or make a reservation or anything?
  3. sorry dude...but there are several times in the story that the "mist spirit" ie, leras's cognitive shadow...used emotional allomancy to manipulate the characters. I think you may be looking at this the wrong way... mckeedee123...I kind of breezed over the transcript looking for a few specific things...but I remember something like this being mentioned. any theories to posit on who may be doing the manipulating? Ati? Leras? Rashek? Kelsier? Vin? Considering the unsavory nature of Miles' and Taan's actions I would have to lean towards that stupid ginger Ati...
  4. I've always had a hunch that Hoid may be collecting superpowers. He does display an ability to use powers from several different worlds. While it's hard to say...I know that he never obviously used allomancy until WoR. He also makes mention of having attained "perfect pitch" in WoR. If you have read the sample chapters of LoP, you know that he has the ability to lightweave before he ever becomes a worldhopper. I don't think that there is anything that suggests that he has an ability to use AonDor...although...Elantrans have to be near Elantris to use it anyway. While I have seen a few other forum members make reference to his ability to use feruchemy...I don't think this ever comes up in any books that are out...possibly something about it in a WoB in regards to how Hoid changes his "spiritual connection" to different worlds...we also know from WoR that he can cross over into Shadesmar. While he makes an appearance in Emperor's Soul, I don't think we've ever seem him stamp anything. (although...you'd thin that this would be one of the easiest things to replicate)...did I miss anything?
  5. Imagine Wax...only instead of a lot of weight...he has infinite speed...would Miles have been a problem? "No ...it's cool... I just keep tieing him up...and I got a few of his metalminds this time...OR...when Wayne puts up a speed bubble...Wax empties his shotguns 222 times in the blink of an eye (accuracy be damned). Come to think of it...it wouldn't't be a compounder...but...a twinborn who could store in steel and burn either chromium or bendalloy would be pretty sweet!
  6. Maybe somewhere that cultivation has gone wrong. The shard isn't there anymore...so things have gotten a little effed up. The animals are running the zoo.
  7. No prob...just another manifestation of the spell check shard. Up vote for having odd thoughts in your head...where would we be without them?
  8. Tap scent from a tinmind to figure out who REALLY farted.
  9. Right...maybe "trounced" was the wrong word to use. Complicate May have been better.so...not to hijack a thread or anything...but what shards seem to be paired. Ruin and preservation obviously...I can see honor and odium as being opposites...even devotion and dominion could be considered opposites in some ways. Cultivation and...predation?
  10. Right...once you have held a shard you are always connected to it in some way. I guess the theory is still possible...but if you think of how much investiture is present in 1 of the 16 shards of the power of creation in comparison to the latent investiture in every single human...I imagine that the ratio of one to the other is a huge difference. For the investiture of one person to influence such a huge thing would probably be difficult to say the least.
  11. I would totally eat at a restraunt where the appitizers were served in dishes that had to be smashed open before you could eat them...Opa!!!
  12. I do have to concede that there is obviously some taboo that surrounds the whole Forging thing in MaiPon. We are also being given someone who is a master of the art as our only example of it's practice. But still...allomancy and feruchemy are mostly genetic (even with the genes you still have to snap)...surgebinding requires forming a spiritual bond with a supernatural being...Elantrans just wake up that way...awakeners have to steal pieces of other peoples souls (sort of)...it seems to me that this is one of the few systems of magic that would be available to anyone who was willing to learn and practice. (and maybe...buy a sick underfed horse and turn it into a strong healthy one...would have been a better example)
  13. I've often times wondered this myself. So much emphasis is put on the various metals always being paired in allomancy...and there are 16...I always suspected that there may be some of the same thing going on with the shards. However...the WoB listed above kind of trounces the idea that all shards have a paired opposite or counterpart. Bummer...
  14. isn't anyone who is burning any metal infused with investiture? I mean...there is a lot of specualtion as to how heavily invested people and things may be resistant to various "magics." (ie it's really hard to push or pull on a shardblade and gravity surges don't really work on shardplate)...but...that would mean that gravity surges also don't work on someone infused with stormlight. I can't remember if this ever happens in Kaladin vs. Szeth or not...but...it totally dosen't stop allomancers from being able to push/pull on atium.
  15. Part of my last post was "where did allomancers come from before Rashek's ascension?" ...and I'm not sure if you are right or not there dvoraen...It's a possibility I guess...I just haven't heard the idea posed anywhere else...and I didn't get that impression from the story...and even if Rashek did make the beads of lerasium while "ascended"...why the little pots if he was just going to smash them open right away?
  16. If we commonly spoke in person...you'd need a REALLy big copper mind...nothing like a terrible joke to break up the monotony of every day life... ...on that note...keep a coppermind just to remember all the inappropriate jokes you've ever heard...
  17. Or how about- "But as a gentleman, I must warn you, if you so much as glance at another woman, I'll be on (insert girl's name) like a fly on a pile of very seductive manure. " I am really curious about Marsh's intentions though. Since the next book it going to be titles "Shadows of Self" could Marsh be trying to find a way to bring Kelsier back. Maybe even as a Sliver?
  18. take your garbage into Shadesmar and leave it there. forge your self into someone who didn't eat taco bell for dinner to get rid of your stomach ache (I really wish I could do this right now) use the surge of friction instead of lube while...well...I propably shouldn't say...
  19. I see where you are going with this...(by the way, you misspelled human)...but I don't know if we have enough information to speculate. We know for certain that the intent of the shard has a significant influence on the person holding it (especially over time)...but I don't know if the individual has any influence over the intent of the shard. I have always assumed that the different intents of the shards were repesentitive of the 16 distinct parts of Adonalsium. Meaning that as a whole Adonalsium- Preserves, Ruins, Endows, Dominates, Devotes, Hates, Honors, etc...Much like if you were broken into 16 pieces...one would be your head, one would be your hands, one would be your heart, one would be your digestive tract, etc...I don't know that a long chain of people who were more like feet taking turns holding your hands would be able to make them into feet. Follow?
  20. I have actually read your analysis already...kudos by the way...and thanks for supplying the WoB. By the way...I found Forging to be an interesting magic system. How could anyone in this world NOT learn how to do this? All you need is a decent level of carving skill and a basic understanding of how the whole "history of an object" thing works and you can turn your crappy, abused, barely running, car that you purchased for $100 into one that is in top operational condition. (I am aware that this is a poor metaphor for the context of the story)
  21. You may all be right. Bear in mind that the title of the next book is Shadows of Self...not Shadow of self. We may encounter a few different slivers trying to push the story around.
  22. Is that Zap Brannigan? up vote... "There's not a restaurant built that I can't fly! Ah...she's built like a steakhouse but handles like a bistro." But I do have to wonder...being that Marsh has spikes (many)...you would think that Harmony would have a direct line into his head. I know...Harmony kind of sucks at the whole direct manipulation thing...but...just how long can you listen to the disembodied voice in your head before you start taking it's advice. (God said, "Kill him!"...and I totally listened the first time!)
  23. I've actually wondered this about forging and Aon Dor. Both use specific symbols in order to produce the required effect. Even a small deviation in the way the symbol is drawn can cause a drastically different effect. I also have to point out that there seems to be a hierarchy of Spiritual-Cognitive-Physical. Doesn't the way something's spirit perceives itself have an impact on how it cognitively perceives itself...which in turn changes the physical? (I thought I read a WoB about how stormlight healing works off of how the spirit of a person perceives them in ideal form)
  24. I haven't read that part of the story since the title of the book was announced...so I never noticed. Interesting. Megalodon gets an up vote for paying attention to detail...
  25. I have to go with Vin by default. Just because...that's why. One thing that our thread starter did not mention in his description of the environment is time of day. I would say that at night, vin would have a HUGE advantage. Not only does she have tin to enhance her senses and the ability to sense the "metal" of Szeth's sword with steel or iron...AND the ability to (I assume) track Szeth using bronze...but Szeth glows in the dark for pete's sake. Vin on the other hand is very apt at stealth and sneakery. She could very easily get the drop on him just using the element of surprise. All of this is assuming that they are fighting at night. Even in a daytime battle I have to go with Vin. While Szeth does have a shardblade (huge advantage) and can heal rapidly, he is very vulnerable to emotional allomancy which could put him quite off his game. Also, while he can heal...any wounds he suffers will run down his supply of stormlight. Really...just keeping the fight drawn out will eventually run down his supply of stormlight. The same could be said for Vin...but metal only burns as you use it...not as you hold it. If we are giving Vin the Chromium and Bendalloy as well, I think this would give Vin a pretty big advantage in her ability to think her way through all of his attacks.
