  1. That's what I'm trying to say, the fighting styles are different. Sword skills are far more than merely being able to swing with speed. Rapiers require finesse, accuracy, and minuscule movements, while claymores are more about pure strength due to their weight making finesse nearly impossible. Mastering one type of sword does not automatically give you skills with all types of swords. They are vastly different. I was hoping you would suggest this, as I feel it makes the most sense, particularly since Buttercup's lack of a PI makes fighting High Epics rather difficult for her. So with that said, there's two High Epics that have recently entered the city; Chasmfiend and Thunderspear (once Thunderspear's post goes live). Buttercup hasn't notified Rainmaker about Argon just yet. Yeah I'm dreading this right now. I still can't think of a good approach other than outright attacking him, which isn't wise for obvious reasons. But I'll get there!
  2. In 7th grade, I was introduced to my first meme. Memes hadn't really taken off yet, and the word meme wasn't even really in use (I wouldn't hear it for another 2 years). But there it was, in science class, every day, because my teacher loved it (it really is a fun song). Also, apologies, I don't know how to embed a video. Behold Numa Numa https://youtu.be/KmtzQCSh6xk
  3. This past weekend one of my coworkers passed away. We still aren't sure what happened to him, but he was only 45 years old. He left behind a wife of 29, two teenage daughters from a previous marriage, and a son that is only 2 years old...
  4. I thought they targeted Epics who were chull-holes, and so David theorized they'd target Fortuity. Maybe you're right. Oh you didn't need to justify choosing Corvallis, I'm just wanting to know why a High Epic would choose Corvallis. If he's come to the city with plans to not stay long term, he'd likely sneak in rather than "legally" enter, because getting a home and servants doesn't sound like the thief style. And if he did enter through "legal" means, how much of his powers does he divulge to the city? You're welcome to write his entrance as a post, but he'll be answering some questions regarding his power set prior to entrance if he enters "legally".
  5. Very true, but they also comment that they don't pick fights with rulers to not rock the boat, as well as David commenting in Steelheart that the Reckoners could target High Epics but they don't. Combined I felt like the implication was High Epics naturally seek out positions of power.
  6. I would consider all of those except Mitosis as rulers. Just because you're not head honcho doesn't not make you a ruler. Edit: And maybe Fortuity, but he was somewhat lacking in offensive powers to make him a threat to the ruling High Epics.
  7. My biggest issue: Why is he in Corvallis? Corvallis is a city already owned by a High Epic, and so other High Epics coming to town would likely only do so because they want to take over. To my knowledge we haven't really met a canon High Epic who didn't want to rule, aside from Obliteration whose only motive was to get stronger. Now here's the list of High Epics in Corvallis: -Rainmaker (owns the place) -Bubbles (by some definitions a High Epic due to PI, but has zero offensive powers) -Jumpdrive (same as Bubbles, no offensive but has PI) -Converter (want to overthrow Rainmaker) -Phoenix (wants to overthrow Rainmaker) -Iconoclast (wants to overthrow Rainmaker) -Argon (odd man out, just wants a place to relax for the rest of his days) There might be others that I've forgotten or we don't know enough about (Insight), so my apologies to those players. Anyways, aside from Argon and the two without offensive powers who only meet High Epic status due to PIs, everyone's there to own the place. So why is Thunderspear there? He's a crazy powerful High Epic, so I feel this is very important to know to figure out how you enter the city (as well as when you entered).
  8. Please don't take this as rude, but this is so wrong it actually hurts. Have you held different types of swords? A Claymore vs a Katana vs a Rapier? I can't speak to gunplay, but swords are massively different. Even not accounting for which edges are bladed, the varying weights of the blades is enough to make them completely different. I didn't bother looking up any of the weapons that Bridge Boy listed, but if we're being realistic, by the age of 35 a person who has dedicated their lives to swordplay would be "master level" in one or two, but likely proficient in three or four.
  9. Aside from TLR actually being 100% deceased, Secret Histories also brielfy mentioned Southern Scadrians in passing. The fandom has known Kelsier was a Sliver for a very long time. That was the first time Brandon actually said it in a published work, I think.
  10. I haven't decided if they watched it. I would assume the cartoon exists since Reckonearth diverges from Earth in 2014, which is well after the show was done and over with. As for whether they've seen the show I don't know yet. I, personally, enjoy the parallels between my girls and the show, hence my wanting them to be from Townsville, but I also don't want to make it too painfully similar (I've already got power sets for Blossom and some of Buttercup, their favorite colors, somewhat personality similarities, plus their father, plus their home city now). I figured Bubbles got her name directly from her powers, and I was going to have Blossom pick hers based on an old nickname she used to have (which I haven't touched on yet). Perhaps the show is the excuse for Buttercup to follow suit? *shrugs* Cool, thanks for the info. I doubt it'll ever even get mentioned more than maybe twice, but I didn't want to introduce a conflict.
  11. Has anyone done anything with Townsville? Because, you know, Powerpuff and all, my girls are from "The City of Townsville". Granted, I haven't read Wastelands yet, and am hoping that the development doesn't extend too far back in time, as the girls moved to America prior to being Epics, but then I don't know how far back this worldbuilding you mention has gone.
  12. Are you trying to tell me that the folks younger than us know who Aaron Carter is?
  13. This is the first time in my life where I actually feel old. The younguns on the Shard have never seen The Ultimate Showdown before this thread? It was a ridiculously popular video. Like, at nerdy college parties just a year ago it was an unwritten rule than everyone burst out singing the whole thing, start to finish, usually preceded or followed by Still Alive. I just...ugh...time flies.
  14. mobi files are compatible with kindles. I don't know of anything else that uses them. epub are the format that both iBooks and Google Books uses, as well as many other reading applications. regardless, all files from Brandon are DRM free, and so you're free to convert to whatever format you want, as has been noted.
  15. Keep in mind that the Shard's intent eventually overpowers the Vessel's mind. Given Preservation's love for TLR, I'm more than comfortable believing that enough time has passed for such a thing to occur to all the Shards, and so of course Odium is a bad guy, it is his intent. And once again, nothing suggested that the Elantrians were bad guys. Their dialogue and actions far more represented scientists and scholars.
  16. 10th Anniversary Elantris Spoilers:
  17. It could be a hint, but I still don't buy this similarity between the cloaks. Vasher's is human shaped. Mistcloaks are just regular cloaks cut up to make long strips so they flow in the air. As for Marasi's wording, it does not seem odd to me at all. It's like "Open Sesame", or "Speak friend, and enter". Having such vocal passwords in their lore is highly likely, so the only reason this raises any eyebrows at all is the use of the word "command". I'm not buying it, personally.
  18. I've never received an offer letter for either job offer. Drug testing is pretty standard, I feel, and employment is pretty much always contingent on passing. As for testing in New Orleans or not, it's very common for companies to have contracts with local urgent care facilities, in which the facility will send paperwork and the like in a format that the company uses, without having to jump through communication hoops and the like or any potential transfer fees. So for them to want you to come out for your testing is not uncommon at all.
  19. At what point does Hoid gain his Feruchemy? I know that the question was finally answered during the AMoL tour, but at which point does he actually gain Feruchemy? Is it before or after he takes the Lerasium bead? If before, then your medallion idea sounds plausible. If after, then dyring's idea of some Lerasium/Atium alloy is plausible too. This would beg the question of where he got the Atium from, however, since Kelsier had destroyed the Pits. Do we know how often Hoid had visited Scadrial before TFE? Or if he had at all? Getting a Feruchemist's metalminds wouldn't be too difficult, given how slippery the man is.
  20. Not that I care who you vote for, but to not vote for someone because they're a liar would rule out...well, everyone.
  21. Yes it is! Holidays notwithstanding, employers in the US are not obligated to give you days off just by virtue of employing you (though nearly everyone gets 2 days off as their weekend, though which two days those are tends to depend). Part-time workers generally get no vacation or sick days whatsoever, and Full-time employees must negotiate for vacation and sick days when going through the hiring process. For example, I'm a full time employee, working 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year (again, holidays notwithstanding). I get a total of 5 sick days a year, and 10 days paid vacation. I didn't have access to my 5 sick days until I had worked for 6 months, and I didn't have access to any of my vacation until after a full year. I'm not sure how labor laws work in Poland, but I know that many Europeans who come over on business are usually shocked at the kinds of working conditions we have here. For example, our employers are not required to put windows in our working areas. My job's old office had zero windows, except in the managers' offices. In the winter, if I didn't go out for lunch, I'd go into work and leave work in the dark, without having seen a single ray of sunshine all day. And my employer is considered one of the best in the world. *shrug*
  22. Now, in certain states yes it is, in specific situations. But the practice of drug tests dates way back, long before the very recent law changes.
  23. Most, if not all jobs in the US require drug testing. Remember that just about everything except tobacco and alcohol are illegal over here.
  24. Your theory stands to reason. I'm still not sure if I buy the ability to use the Aon through will alone simply by being infused with the Dor. This would suggest any Elantrian bonded to a Seon would have immediate access to the one Aon, barring modifications of course, and that Dakhor monks and ChayShan practitioners might be capable of the same. It sounds plausible enough, but I wonder if that's really all that Surgebinding is on Roshar, or if there's something more to it.
