Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins
Blaze1616 replied to Zathoth's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
According to Amazon, the Kindle edition won't release until Jan. 30th. link In case that's where you preordered from -
For my characters, Bubbles is pretty much done for the day since she'll be put back on lock down during the crisis, Blossom will want to speak with Rainmaker at the end of the day about the future attempt to trap Insight, and Buttercup will be busy with meeting up with Kenshin, handling Argon, and then she'll be dealing with whatever future security concerns come up. I'm not totally certain how the encounter with Jumpdrive will go, or if 18th Shard wants to do anything specific. After that Buttercup will be going straight to Kenshin, likely detailing her plan on the way to Argon, and then dealing with Argon. So it's up to you.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Blaze1616 replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I grab the ebook versions for two specific reasons 1) Gives more money to the authors and publishers I love 2) Searching. I can actually search for information 2.5) And within searching, books that have Kindle X-Ray enabled are just awesome. I love X-Ray. Seriously, give it a shot with WoK or WoR at some point, and learn how your old searching methods are worthless! MWUAHAHAHAHA! But yeah, I never actually read my ebooks... -
"Ah, just the Queen I was wanting to talk to!" Broadcast's voice rang through her mobile. Buttercup snorted, but didn't get on his case. "I apologize for taking so long to answer, I was just getting off a call from Jumpdrive," the Epic said, his voice teasing. "No matter," Buttercup said, "I need you to do me a favor. News of a new high Epic entering town has come to my attention. I'd like to approach him myself, but I want some backup should things go south. There's an Epic living near Walnut and 13th named Kenshin. Please forward to her the message I've just sent to your mobile." Broadcast didn't reply for a moment, Buttercup assumed he was checking the message she had sent. "Mm, of course. And in return I have some information for you. Jumpdrive called to inform me that he's run into some of those creatures down near SW 3rd Street." "All right. I'll handle the situation there before heading over to Kenshin's. If she responds yes, please also send a convoy over to pick us up from her place. If she responds no, send me a message so I don't waste my time." "Of course, my liege." Buttercup hung up, letting his remark rile her emotions but not giving him the satisfaction of a response. Taking to the skies, she flew south at a quick pace. SW 3rd Street, also known as Pacific Highway, was near her house, just across the Marys River. It took her a few minutes, and as she approached she slowed down, keeping her eyes open for the commotion. Gunshots announced the location. Zipping over, she saw a handful of dead bodies, and Jumpdrive holding the gun, heading into a building. Eyeing the bodies, she noted they seemed to be coming from inside the structure. She crashed through a window, landing on her feet in a room with about fifteen of the creatures, though only one of them registered any surprise at her entrance. She didn't have time to think about that now, however, and she set to work. Fists and feet went flying, her muscles tightening with each connecting blow. The sounds of bones crunching, meat squishing, and blood splashing rang in her ears. Before she knew it, she had dropped almost all of them in the room, and the one that had been surprised at her entrance was cowering in a corner behind two more of the savages, Buttercup having blocked the exit. She eyed him like a predator, the rage in her chest boiling, but she wasn't quite done. Stepping forward, the two animals guarding the man were growling, readying themselves to pounce. Another step, and she growled back. Their eyes were hollow, nothing human left in them. They bared their teeth, pointed monstrosities that dripped with drool. Yet another step, and they charged. One leaped into the air, achieving inhuman heights as it flew over its companion, who was running full speed toward her. Buttercup shifted her weight to her back foot, reaching up and grabbing the one right out of the air, using its momentum to spin her around a full 360 degrees, throwing the creature at the cognizant human still cowering in the corner. She then accepted the full brunt of the tackle that had come her way. She grappled on the ground with the thing, its teeth sinking into her arm. She let out a howl of pain, her fist connecting with its temple over and over until it let go. Throwing it off of her, she stood up and pinned it to the wall, her hand jabbing its neck to crush its windpipe, and she released it to suffocate on its own, turning her attention to the one now rising from the heap it had landed in, the human underneath still recovering. It leaped at her again, but Buttercup was done playing around. She spun, delivering a roundhouse kick that could bring down a building right to the creature's head. The satisfying crunch of skull was like that of church bells on a Sunday afternoon to her ears. Buttercup stood, a bloodied mess, staring right into the eyes of the only other living creature in the room, more than a dozen bodies laying around her. He trembled under her gaze, a frightened gurgle escaping his lips as she approached. Buttercup bent over, and lifted him off the ground by his collar. "You..." she trailed off as she ran her eyes up and down his body, "You are not the Epic from this morning." "E-Epic?" His voice was feeble, terrified. Buttercup squinted at the man, his eyes fully human. He might not be one of those things, but that doesn't mean he's not been gifted in some means. Her thoughts drifted back to the sports fields the night before, where a specific human had been gifted enhanced abilities. "What's your name?" "T-Tim! Tim Jones, my Queen!" Buttercup shook him, getting frustrated with the stuttering. He squeaked at the shaking. "And why were those last two guarding you, Tim?" This was getting more and more suspicious. "Th-They weren't! They were attacking me, when s-some guy outside the window attracted their attention. Then some g-gunshots rang off before you came in through the window. They were going to eat m-me!" Buttercup took a moment to think it over. Better to be safe than sorry. She threw him to the ground, his body crumbling as if he had no strength to stand, his trembling visible. "Tim, if you're telling the truth, then I'm truly sorry." She lifted her boot, and crushed his head beneath it. A high pitched cry escaped his lips before his head crumpled like paper. "Well, maybe not," she sighed, wiping the gore from her shoe onto the floor. Turning toward the door, she exited into a hallway, looking for the Epic she had come to rescue. She called out, "Jumpdrive?!" Broadcast scanned the message that Buttercup had sent him. It was concise and to the point, much like the Queen who had sent it. Kenshin, I know I haven't given you much time to think over my job offer, however a situation has come to my attention and I'd like your help. An unknown High Epic was caught on tape entering the city today. His collected information claims he's just a regular Epic though. I was hoping you would be willing to come with me to speak with him, see what this is all about. If you'd like to join me, please respond "Yes". If not, please respond "No". Thank you, Queen Buttercup He took a sip of his coffee before pressing the send button. Looking back out the window, he noticed the green streak of light in the sky. He let out a soft sigh, a little disappointed that his teasing hadn't gotten to her during the call.

Hang on, now I'm confused. Transmutation on a large scale, like Steelheart's, I feel should be avoided for the RP, regardless of it being primary or secondary. Now, if you're just making matter superconductive without changing what matter it is, then that's fine, but that's not what transmutation is. Re Reckoner Cell in Corvallis: I feel like having a cell there would undermine the vanilla revolt story, and the idea should be run by the users in charge of those characters first. It sounds like it could be cool, but in all likelihood would clash with said established story in the same way that the cell in Newcago refused David. Remember that Reckoners, as an organization, at this point in time, is all about staying on the DL, picking off nobodies to not piss off the big guns. It's only during Steelheart that Prof decides to change his philosophy on the matter.

All right, first, I had misunderstood the secondary. I thought you were turning things to some superconductive material, as in transmutation, which is apparently incorrect. If I understand you correctly, you just meant that the materials within range would become super conductive. My apologies. As noted, I was under the impression that this secondary would actually transmute the matter as well, and my comments were made regarding that. No other character in canon other than Steelheart does large scale transmutation. As noted, since I misunderstood what was intended, my comments regarding the matter don't apply.

The Secondary. No one in the game has a Power like that, and the only canon one we know of is Steelheart (remember Regalia's was through active use of her main power, and not some secondary). The real reason it's OP, though, is that it's a major disruption to the game. A single use of the power would alter everything in the setting permanently, potentially ruining plot lines in ways that render them unsalvageable. Also, though, is that you can't have a weakness not negate all of your powers. You can have various degrees of your weakness do that (think of the Kool-Aid gal, whose powers were disrupted upon contact with the drink, but actively ingesting it cancelled her powers completely).

As daunting a task as it might seem, you really should read the whole thread to understand it. It'll also help you decide where you want your character to start and also help you figure out how your character fits into the overall story. Don't forget:

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Blaze1616 replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Downtown Detroit is very similar, and I hate it. It's always a dreadful experience going downtown. Unlike KC, though, we do have signs. They might not be useful thanks to ever present construction forcing detours (without detour signs), but we do have them. -
Well if you want a bit more Hoid, I suggest reading Elantris 10th Anniversary Edition and Emperor's Soul, followed by the Emperor's Soul Alternate Prologue on Brandon's website. It won't really give you any new knowledge, but it'll get you fully up to date.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Blaze1616 replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
As the two above me said, you're not a terrible person. But I do think you're greatly overestimating how upset people get when you tell them you don't really want to talk. Unless she's particularly sensitive, she'd likely just shrug it off. That's what my friends do, anyways. -
I disagree. The Eras system automatically shifts numbers, so any additional Eras pushes the later Eras up a number (so if 1940's became Era 3, then SF would become Era 5). The Trilogy of Trilogies system didn't allow for that, as you had the three trilogies already announced (tFE, 1980's tech, SF), and so additions such as Wax & Wayne suddenly require a sentence to a paragraph to describe.
-
Since no one has mentioned it, I recommend my favorite anime "movie": 5 Centimeters Per Second. It's three 20-minute long sections that make one compact, 1-hour movie (you should watch all three back-to-back). It's a work of art, so if you're wanting action go elsewhere, but if you're looking for an anime that just might change your outlook on life, definitely recommend. And even if you don't like it, it was only an hour of your time.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Blaze1616 replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
...Is her being your FB friend that big a deal? Who do you bother friending if not your...friends? Or do you mean she's actively messaging you and you don't feel like talking to her? In that case, just tell her that you're not much in the mood to talk right now. If she's really your friend then she shouldn't mind. -
Well then maybe I'm wrong. The original reason listed for using the "Eras" system and not the "Trilogy of Trilogies" system was to avoid confusion with middle-series such as Wax & Wayne and a potential Current Tech book(s).
-
All right. For future reference, posting something like this in Cosmere Theories is okay. Even though the forum title says "Theories," it's the place to discuss all of Brandon's works without worrying about whether you should use spoilers or not. Spoilers for all things Cosmere EXCEPT Elantris:
-
What novels have you read? It might be easier to post this in a forum meant for all the works, and not the Warbreaker specific one.
-
Just to note for consistency, Wax & Wayne is officially Era 2. 1980's tech is then Era 3, and SF tech is Era 4.
-
The Epics of Oregon Thread isn't meant for discussion, but a quick index of users and their characters. Discussion happens here, in the Questions threads, which yours has been discussed. So long as no one voices any concerns that need attention, you need the approval of the local GM (depends on which thread you're joining), and you also need to send said GM and TwiLyght your characters' weaknesses (if they are Epics). Once that list is fully checked off, you're free to post.

Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins
Blaze1616 replied to Zathoth's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
In a very broad sense: Gryffindor - Bravery Slytherin - Ambition Ravenclaw - Scholarship Hufflepuff - Friendship None of the houses are shown to propagate loners. Slytherin and Ravenclaw are seen to produce smaller groups of friends that are really tight knit, but not necessarily loners, which is something that seems to happen in all houses (with a possible exception of Hufflepuff, given how little representation they got and their focus on friendship). -
I've read everything Brandon has published once with the following exceptions: Way of Kings - twice Words of Radiance - twice Warbreaker - one and a half (things came up, never bothered finishing) Perfect State - 12 to 15 times (writing articles for the Coppermind) Shadows Beneath - twice Both Legions - zero Both Infinity Blades - zero All Alcatraz - zero WoT - zero H.A.R.R.E. - zero

Don't worry! After I finish this conversation between Broadcast and Jumpdrive! We're working on it, I promise!
