The Fibonacho Sequence is my favorite sequence! Good thing you dropped that one nacho!
-
But that would mean that the big bad would be just another Ruin, albeit less powerful? That seems too cheap for Brandon, in my mind.
-
Oh! I misunderstood. If the character has been approved, then just post it in the Corvallis thread.

Does the change surprise you? People complained about crotchety Doctor. So they changed it back to what people want. I don't personally agree with people, I'd like a more serious Doctor who's crotchety, but what can ya do?

Just post it here, and type the word "Comatose" in red. I highly suggest waiting for Question 16 to pop up though. It'll happen any time now... Also remember that you can keep the weakness a secret, but it has to be shared with TwyLight and the GM (for Corvallis that would be Comatose) via PM.

I still like Titan for having life. It'll just be methane based life, not water. Gotta love that CH4!

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

Favorite comic series/books?
Blaze1616 replied to Darkness Ascendant's topic in Entertainment Discussion
It all depends on what kinds of stories you enjoy. It's been my experience that Marvel's characters tend to be more human, where DC's tend to be more godlike. As a result their stories tend to vary widely, and that naturally leads to people preferring one over the other. I got into comics thanks to Spider-Man, but wound up preferring DCU. I only bother to collect the Green Lantern Universe comics though. My favorite, though, is a little graphic novel by the name of Scott Pilgrim. -
This is a very important distinction to make when partaking in these discussions. I hate when people call comic nerds prejudiced when their complaints are along the lines of Wally and Alan. Retconning a character is a big no-no, particularly one that everyone loves. It's like the complaints people have for movies based on books. Why did you change that character's hair? Why is the breed of cat in Hunger Games not correct? Why is the Johnny Storm black, when he's always been a white guy? It's not meant to be disrespectful, and it's not meant to be prejudiced (99% of the time). It's a legitimate questioning of why you're changing the character. [rant] As a HUGE Green Lantern fan, when they announced Alan as being gay, I was initially upset because the original Alan 1) was not gay and 2) had biological children who also became supers, something that wouldn't be true should he have been gay. I got over it for two main reasons: 1) Alan is so underused that he pretty much doesn't matter and 2) Alan's claim to fame was WAY back in the golden age of comics, and I'm not old enough to have truly known his stories. It might sound shallow, but I would much rather see them make a brand new gay character rather than changing an old one. For example, they did introduce a new GL: Simon Baz. They could have made him gay (he does represent a minority; he's muslim). They've also got an even newer GL coming down the line, and they could make her a lesbian. But retconning Alan, just...why? For what purpose? And to then not use him ever, making the change pointless? Ugh... [/rant]

What are you playing right now?

Well no one would blame you. Outside of giving you three different healers, Regal was a rather useless addition to the team, considering he didn't fill any particular needed role. -

Mm, I think I've been misunderstood. Me being skeptical of a Tales game simply means I worry it'll only be great, and not fantastic. My main worry is that I'll wind up really liking the character that gets added to your party really late in the game, which will be beyond frustrating. That was the complaint from Japan I was talking about. -

If I had Steam I'd totally be one of you. The Tales series is best series. I'm skeptical of ToZ though, as a lot of people complained about it in Japan. -
Blossom gritted her teeth and closed her eyes out of frustration, grabbing the handhold above her head as the limo swerved. She had heard that vanillas would often feel a bit disoriented after Chase left their bodies, and she always felt a bit remiss that she'd never be able to experience the phenomenon first hand, but currently it was just a tad annoying. Sparing a glance for the woman seated across from her, the girl was struggling just as much as she was. Good. It wouldn't do for a Queen to be seen as weaker than a vanilla. As the driver finally got a grasp on his wits, Blossom looked to the clock. It was 11, and in half an hour Bubbles would be leaving bunker beta to get to the Drop Point. Given what was happening, and where it was happening, Bubbles needed one of her sisters to travel with her, since the road wouldn't be very safe. "Step on it please, driver. I'm in a bit of a-" Blossom was cut off as Chase re-entered the driver. "Miss me much?" Chase said. Blossom held back the urge to roll her eyes. "Mm, yes. Next time give us fair warning before just jumping out. I think our guest here nearly vomited on me," Blossom offered an insincere smile to the vanilla woman. It was going to be fun taunting her. "But as I was saying to the driver before you joined us again, please step on it. We need to get to the broadcast station quickly so that I can go and escort Bubbles to the Drop Point." "Rainmaker, it's an Epic. Shoot them." Chase's voice in her ear. Buttercup couldn't help but smile. Finally. Time to shine. Still floating in the air, she took one last glance at the helicopter with Cornucopia in it. "I got this," she said to the Queens. Taking care to not give herself away, she took off slowly, gradually gaining speed to avoid a burst of light. She couldn't, however, avoid the light that trailed her, but that couldn't be helped. She needed speed. Zipping after the van, she caught up no problem, flying parallel with it a few hundred yards away, the fields of crops blasting by underneath her. Positioning herself a little further ahead of the van, she pulled a quick turn, racing towards the highway, and crashed fists first into the side of the vehicle, T-boning it. Her body tumbled with the van as it barrel-rolled across the road and eventually over the barrier, bursting off the high way and into the fields. When the van finally came to a stop on its side, Buttercup groaned as her bones reattached and her skin re-knit itself. When her arms became usable again she lifted herself out of the crevice of the van, floating over to the passenger side door, which was facing the sky. Punching through the door, she ripped the piece of metal out of its hinges and flung it away.

The post I am going to make once Blackhoof gets back to me will put the time at 11, though it should go by fairly quickly. Your characters are stuck at 1pm, right?
-
Yes indeedy. Winter, you're sure you don't want to post?

I liked the episode. A lot. Everything about it was fun, and the noir setting, mixed with Rarity's ever changing outfit were a blast. I also enjoyed how seemingly distractions that Rarity would so totally fall for wound up being actual clues, though seeing that coming was fairly easy.

Yes but we all know you're insane

This is easily the most upsetting edit to the original trilogy for me. By making Han shoot second, you've completely altered the audience's first interaction with the character. Han is a scoundrel, a smuggler, and an all around bad boy, who over the course of the film turns into a hero. He's not some paragon of virtue from the get-go.

I...I think you've all misunderstood the prophecy. I mean, perhaps you're right, but that's not how I understood it at all. Vader does bring balance to the Force. He just does it 20 years later than expected. Luke doesn't kill the Emperor. Vader does. Vader, in one change of heart on a dying Death Star II, removed both acting Sith Lords from the Galaxy. Expanded Universe Spoilers below: I'm 99% certain that's what Lucas intended the prophecy to mean, considering he's got this insane notion that the Star Wars saga is about Vader, and not Luke. As for Prequel haters, I wouldn't hate on them if they didn't deserve it. As stated before, Episode I was a catastrophe. Qui-Gon is the most anti-Jedi, that's still accepted by the council, that I've ever known. The Trade Federation's decisions regarding the occupation of Naboo were all incredibly poor, and proved them to all be idiots and not intelligent business men, which puts cracks into the suspension of my disbelief. Said suspension of disbelief was then completely obliterated when child Anakin just so happens to perform a series of accidents that results in him partaking in the space battle, and being the deciding factor in its outcome - Why was there a child sized helmet in the cockpit? Why doesn't R2, the shown to be intelligent droid, do anything to stop him? Why doesn't anyone else partaking in the battle bother to comment on it? Oh, and the pod race. I hate the pod race. Having an action sequence just for the sake of an action sequence is not a good thing. Action sequences don't make movies good on their own. Let's also not forget to note that there is no tension during the pod race because the only character partaking who we care about, Anakin, has script protection, because he has to live to become Vader. The pod race was actually pointless, and a waste of my time. Other things about Episode I that I won't bother detailing: the terrible acting by both Jake Lloyd and Natalie Portman, though thankfully Portman got her crap together for the next two films; the Gungans, as a whole and not just Jar-Jar; the incredibly confusing Padme switcheroos that actually make no tactical sense; the lack of developing Darth Maul, turning him into a terrible villain because he died in the same movie he was very poorly introduced during, and the universe would be no different were he to not exist; the oddity that is Naboo electing a 14 year old to be their Queen, as well as the fact that they use monarchy terms in a political system that is not a monarchy, though to be fair Naboo not being a monarchy isn't revealed until Episode II, if my memory serves; and finally that odd and mildly disturbing romance between a 14 year old Padme and a 9 year old Anakin. I've also left out a lot of the very minor details, such as Qui-Gon knowing what kind of poison the white gas is in the beginning of the movie, C3PO being no help to Anakin's mother because he's a protocol droid, and Obi-Wan's lack of intelligence during the Darth Maul fight (YOU'VE USED FORCE SPRINT BEFORE IN THIS MOVIE!!!!). I would hope by this point that it's needless to say that there is even more things wrong with the film that I'm not going to bother bringing up, particularly because I've mostly ignored the "plot" of the movie thus far. Episode II was better. Note: not good, but better. Episode III, then, was a good action movie, and a decent Star Wars movie. I will give credit where credit is due. First, as has been mentioned, McGregor did a swell job as Obi-Wan. Easily the most sympathetic character across the two films, though Padme beats him out in Episode III if we ignore Episode II. Second, Anakin's downfall was fairly well portrayed in Episode III. Rather than rapidly descending into the dark side of the Force, his descent is slow and agonizing, like all the best tragic heroes. Lastly, the score is beyond excellent. Williams, as usual, outperforms much of his competition. But let's not pretend that the score makes the movie. It merely has the power to enhance it. In the end, a bad movie with a good score is still a bad movie, you just so happen to get to listen to good music while watching it. Obviously, this post is rife with my opinions. Opinions which you are more than welcome to disagree with. But let's please avoid labeling all of us who dislike the films as "haters." Though I'm sure there are those who dislike the films simply because they perceive it as cool to do so, widely stereotyping and labeling is never a good practice to exercise.

Over the weekend I learned, on Saturday morning, that my cable provider decided, at some point over the summer, that BBC America would no longer be provided in my package. It's been a part of that package for as long as they've been my cable provider, which is pretty much my entire life. They did the change without notifying me. ...I didn't get to watch Doctor Who...

I certainly liked the original cover, but when Firefight didn't match, my obsessive-compulsive tendencies were screaming at me. This new hardcover brings much relief.

Brandon's Twitter feed (it's conviniently on the right side of this site if you're on desktop). It's the splash cover that got used for the paperback release, and was adjusted for Firefight and now Calamity as well. Give me a min and I'll post a link for ya. Edit: Link

Leather-bound Edition of Elantris
Blaze1616 replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Bah, you're right. Nothing to worry about, really. Will there be a News article on this site when they're available? I'd think so, but it's always good to check.
