  1. I know we've made typo threads in the past. I'm not quite done with the book, but I've noticed one typo so far: Page 210. Paragraph 9. "though" should be "through" near the end of the paragraph. Sorry I don't have an exact excerpt, I made the notes of the typo on my phone, and don't have the book on me.
  2. Are you unable to spend the $30 for the book? Or however much the ebook copy costs? I'll be buying the book today once I get off work, and will then probably take 3-7 days to finish the thing due to other time commitments, so I'm doing the same, hoping the major spoilers don't get ruined for me. Little things like character names and whatnot are okay with me, so long as they aren't major spoilers like the one at the end of WoR. Good luck in getting your copy soon!
  3. Knowing that Twilyght proposing WHIO was the first exposure to freeform RPGs that this forum had mean I don't know your experience on role playing, but I've played in a few story based games and they tend to work when the story is a bit vague. Things like: Two nations, one war. The nation of Koboldia and the nation of Cadencor have been at war for three generations, but an opportunity to end the war has presented itself. The King of Koboldia and his four daughters, and the Queen of Cadencor and her four sons, have announced that the princes and princesses are to wed, in the hopes that the unions will result in at least one stable relationship, and that the nations might finally end this war. But not all citizens would like for the war to end. In a political environment of unrest and distrust, with enemies lurking around every corner, can the two nations find the peace they are so desperate to claim? Players would then control various characters, with eight to twelve pre-made characters ready to be adopted. The story exists, but it's vague enough that the players can introduce their own twists, and have control over the endings of their characters. I've also seen role-plays with much more rigid stories, and have even participated in one that went very well. So it's doable, and even enjoyable, so long as all the players understand the story that they are progressing. I don't think that's what is being discussed though. It sounds to me that Mckeedee wants to tell a story about a bunch of characters that he controls, but he wants to use the WHIO universe as the canon background to the story. My two cents, I think it belongs in the Fanfictions of Oregon thread, considering we might want to use eastern Oregon later on. Once we begin Eugene, using the final major city, we're still capable of branching further should we choose to do so, so I don't think we should eat up all that real estate for just one person's characters. Edit: Ninja'd
  4. I'm in the same boat.
  5. We would have the cutest flag in the universe.
  6. Clearly the answer is Homo Reptilia.
  7. I mostly agree with you, but not all the bones have the same symbol on them, to the point where there isn't symmetry on the border, which feels a tad odd for a stylistic flair. In specific, the third bones up from the bottom two skulls do not match. The one on the left features a more complex symbol than most of the bones, with 6 iterations of the arch design, while the one on the right seems more simplistic, only featuring two iterations of the arch design. Other observations: The Castle north of the F of "FJORDEN" and west of "WYRN'S SEAT" is the only on with its door open. The top Castle of the three that are diagonally arranged to the northwest of Vest is the only one with a coloration oddity on it's left base. Otherwise all castles are pretty much identical. Lake Alonoe clearly represents the dot within Aon Aon. This begs the question of its importance, if it needs importance.
  8. The symbols on the bones seem to most represent that large mountain range which FJORDEN is written within. Most of the symbols make use of somewhere between 2-4 iterations of the mountain range as well. That being said, the symbols also feature lines within the "mountain range" iterations, so perhaps I'm just seeing a connection where there isn't (intentionally) one. Edit: Though it is possible that there are important geological landmarks within that range that have been edited out of the map, considering that the map shows nothing but the letters there, and Fjorden would likely want to keep their magic super secret.
  9. Playing with my emotions like that, Kolbold! I almost thought you were serious for a moment.
  10. That's always been a thing since the revival.
  11. Mt. Moon must break physics then...
  12. Thanks for the answers! I really appreciate it. It sucks that there's no Jewish population around me to ask these things to.
  13. Perhaps I didn't explain myself well enough. By Jewish blood I meant what you described in another post, about how it's dependent on your mother. It's still blood lines, even if there's nothing in the blood that says "Jewish". I never said anything about him being treated differently once he was accepted, just that the process to be accepted took quite a bit of time. While on the topic, I would like to say something, but I beg of you to not take it offensively as I don't mean it as such: Though you say you don't easily allow non-Jewish people to convert due to simply not feeling everyone need be Jewish, I have to ask how this isn't any different than testing people to be sure they are loyal to the Jewish faith. After all, the person wasn't born among God's chosen people, and so allowing just anyone to convert isn't desirable at all. Anyways, I would really appreciate it if you could describe how you understand the God's chosen to mean. I've read about it before, a long time ago, and from how I understand it "God's chosen" simply means that the Jewish people are promised a place in Heaven. I don't actually know any Jewish people first hand, so much of my questions about the faith generally go unanswered. Meanwhile all of my questions regarding the other two Abrihimic religions get answered due to living in a population of mostly Christians, and near the largest population of Muslims outside the Middle East. It's something I find very unfortunate, as I love learning new things.
  14. I think Twi has it right, in that he was face palming over how easily deceived we all were. Something Hitler was very good at, unfortunately.
  15. I would say 90% of Jews satisfy both. They are a very closed community, and joining the Jewish faith without having Jewish blood is rather difficult. One of my friends from high school had a grandfather who converted to Judaism, and he spent 30 years of his life doing as they asked before they finally, officially, let him in. Remember that their faith puts much emphasis on their blood line, for they are the chosen people. Once again ninja'd. People are active today!
  16. This has been discussed in length before. A quick search should yield the thread.
  17. It has been confirmed by Brandon that both Mraize and Iyatil are worldhoppers. As for the Ghostbloods being an opposing group to the Seventeenth Shard, I'm not so sure. Outside of those two being 'hoppers there's not much more evidence pointing to the possibility, and in fact the Ghostbloods seem a bit too invested in the political climate of Roshar. Given what we know of Seventeenth Shard, they are only at Roshar to hunt down Hoid, and Hoid is the one taking interest in Roshar's happenings. This implies that Roshar's troubles are currently beneath the Seventeenth Shard, and so why would their opposition care about Roshar at all? Just something to think about.
  18. From what I learned, much of the filming of the camps was to serve as proof, as Ike didn't believe people would believe the government. Discussion of cartoon that was linked to. Trigger warning. Concentration camp = internment camp = labor camp. None of those synonyms above denote the horrors that were commited in the German territories. The first term is often conoted as such, but that is not the definition. As such, the gulags were concentration camps, and the US's Japanese internment camps were concentration camps. Japan had similar camps at the time as well. Aaaand Ninja'd by 2 people.
  19. Let me rephrase: instead of Allies, insert Americans. According to my American education anyways (remember that winners write history, so this might be flawed), we did not know of many of the horrors that happened to the Jews until after the war, when we had time to notice the mass graves and the overall slaughter of the Jewish people. Prior to that, we knew that conditions were rather bad, but we were doing something similar to the Japanese in our country, and we likely had knowledge of the Russian gulags, so it didn't cause us pause to say the least.
  20. Well currently the admins on Coppermind have no problem with you hosting theories on the site, so long as they are subpages to your base account page: www.coppermind.net/user:username/theorypagename If you're serious about having your own wiki, I recommend a TiddlyWiki. Free and easy to use, I store my Cosmere notes on a personal TiddlyWiki. As far as portable goes, I don't know what WikiPad uses, but TiddlyWiki is in HTML Document format, which should work on mobile. The executable to save the TiddlyWiki, if you make any changes, is an Executable Jar File. So if your mobile device can run that executable, you can even edit on mobile (I know nothing about this stuff), otherwise the TiddlyWiki would only be readable, not editable, on mobile.
  21. Aside from what everyone else has mentioned about War Propaganda, also remember that the horror that is the Holocaust was not fully realized by the Allies until late into/after the war. That propaganda, as well as many others, were easily created prior to Hitler's most famous crimes becoming widely known.
  22. They have their own baskets? That's cute! My dogs just share toys, mainly because their primary uses of said toys are to rub it in the other's face that they don't have it at the time. Tug of war usually ensues, as well as prancing by the winner, because extra taunts never hurt anypuppy.
  23. That makes sense. The dog that found them tasty is half-pit bull-half-ball of endless energy. The dog that let her eat his collar is a beagle-husky mix.
  24. That harness is cute on him. Does he not have a collar yet, or do you prefer to just use harnesses? My dogs used to have collars. Then one of them decided that collars were tasty. My dogs no longer have collars.
