  1. For the record I have no issue, and actually agree with you. I have both seen and felt society's pushing of people to conform the the perceived ideals for their sex. I do not agree with Kipper's conclusion, but felt the need to explain what I understood to be his reasoning, as this is an issue that can quickly spiral into misunderstandings.
  2. In America the pressure on males is tremendous, far larger than in Europe and Australia. I suspect similar levels of pressure reside on males in Islamic societies, though the male ideal is very different. From how I understand Kipper's argument, he's saying that discussion that often result in "many, many" women sharing these kinds of stories are specifically tailored to get those women to speak out. As such, he's suggesting that we should not jump to conclusions. To pose an example that is completely unrelated to the issue of sexism; a television station focused around video gaming is currently airing a talk show: Host: All right, so in other news, Nintendo has announced that Xenoblade Chronicles X will be censored for the Western release. Such censorship will include editing skimpy outfits for the female characters when they are worn by the young girl character. Panelist, censorship in gaming seems to be more popular these days. What are your thoughts on how this affects the industry? Panelist: *drones on as if people care what he has to say* Host: All righty. We're going to go to a commercial break. While we're gone, pull out your phones and tweet us at #gamingpoll to respond to this poll: Do you think censorship is an okay practice within the gaming industry? Yes or No? *breaks* Host: Welcome back! Our poll results show that 83% of you think that No, censorship is not an okay practice in the gaming industry! Now, I ask you, is 83% a fair result? The answer is no, it is not a fair result, because the only people who would bother responding are people who feel incredibly passionate about the issue one way or the other. Such polls occur all the time on News programs here in the US, and the results are never surprising, but serve a purpose: to get people to feel a connection to those who agree with them. This issue of people only responding when they care passionately about the issue is a major problem in statistics. This is where Kipper's concern stems from. When a discussion involving women's equal rights begins, and these kinds of stories start to emerge, all of the women who don't have stories to share don't open their mouths to say so. It's only the women who do have stories to tell. With that said, I too disagree with Kipper's conclusion, but his caution is warranted. To look at your example regarding Ford's issues with their brakes on some of their models, Ford only began to look and see if there was a problem once the issue arose in "many, many" situations. After looking at the problem, Ford then went and made the decision that it is safer, as a company, to solve the issue in all of the cars sold rather than to continue fixing the problem on a case by case basis. Kipper's caution, as far as I can tell, is the same as Ford's. We should continue to examine the issue before jumping to the conclusion that, because so many women have had issues, it must be true. I realize that there's been at least three responses since I began typing. Apologies if ninja's have rendered this post pointless.
  3. Ah yes, I forgot about that. Thanks for the help Weiry!
  4. That's not necessarily true, unless we have confirmation that Warbreaker occurred no earlier than 3,500 Rosharan years before WoK. Though the likelihood is certainly high.
  5. Thank you kind sir. I wonder when he visited, considering he's Returned. Was it before or after Aharietiam?
  6. I've clearly missed something. When was his first?
  7. Embrace the crush. Dating is like everything else; it takes practice. Also, your taste in potential life partners will be like your taste in food; you have to try to learn what you like and don't like. Yes dating can often end in pain, but it's the experience that truly matters. Most of us aren't lucky enough to meet our very special somepony on the first try. Plus, the experience also helps make you a better potential life partner.
  8. It's the stigma of cartoons. If it's not a kid show, or only meant for comedy, it's not socially acceptable in 'Murica.
  9. Enjoying the romances in teen girl novels that are written in ways to attract males. Case in point; I'm currently reading the Lunar Chronicles. For those that don't know, it's a series which distorts fairy tales into a future sci-fi world (not dystopian!). The sci-fi is what drew me in, super cool. But I d'awww all the time.
  10. *facepalm* Sorry, my bad

  12. You're not misunderstanding at all. Kipper was just trying to further the joke.
  13. He is a math major.

  15. 17th time? You're posting on 17th Shard?
  16. Whatever you want, really. If you're wanting a rescue, that's cool, I'll zip Buttercup over. If not that's fine too. If you'd like we can write up a collab between Jumpdrive and Broadcast/Buttercup in a PM or Google Doc and you can post it. Whatever fits your plans best!
  17. She's pining after one character, who at times seems to truly enjoy his current relationship, and at other times clearly wants to date Kara instead. Meanwhile there is a separate male character pining after Kara in the adorkable kind of way, which she, naturally, completely ignores/doesn't notice/doesn't care. To be fair, Arrow's first two seasons, as well as season one of Flash, kept us in the dark to the main villain for most of the episodes. They only got really involved around the Christmas break, which is what we're approaching this week/next week (I don't know how many episodes we have left).
  18. Yes. The show's third (?) episode was centered around the idea of "Enough with Superman, focus on Supergirl", which sort of irritated me (if you knew it was an issue, why did you include it to begin with?), but after that episode they've mentioned Superman maybe twice, and the mentions were in regards to a specific relationship in which it made sense for Supes to be brought up. Adding depth to her newspaper boss was also incredibly beneficial to the show. All in all the show has become worth watching. 7/10, would recommend.
  19. Give me another post. I'll Alan you after I finish it. I'll wait on a Jumpdrive response, then have Broadcast contact Buttercup and have Buttercup then react/contact Kenshin, all in separate posts.
  20. Gotta Go Sonic Speed! ...uh Anyways, it's possible. It really depends on exactly how iron works, since we don't really know for sure. It's literally all in the details of "pseudo". Is it actually lowering your mass? Then yes. If not, then no. Given the pseudo status, I don't think you could, simply because you can't lower your mass low enough to do so.
  21. "Thank you," he muttered the words, accepting the cup of coffee from his secretary. Raising the cup to his mouth, he took a deep breath, allowing the stench of bean to fill his nose and lungs, his eyes closing from sheer pleasure. He recalled a study from prior to Calamity that said the smell was the largest factor of why people enjoy coffee. Silently agreeing, he took a large swig of the hot liquid. Broadcast loved his coffee. The screen in front of him was showing one of the station's programs, and it was time to show the Rainmaker ad again. He'd already seen it about eight times, so when it started he got up from his chair and headed towards the window which Blossom had been looking out of mere hours ago. The rain was still coming down, the clouds overhead not even moving in the wind of the day. Looking down to the ground, he watched as people bustled, vanillas and Epics. From this height, he couldn't tell them apart, their mannerisms not observable to his eyes this far away. Taking another drink, he felt his leg buzzing. Reaching into his pocket, he looked at the mobile for a long few seconds. He'd made a reputation for himself, he couldn't very well answer on the first buzz. Unless it was Rainmaker, of course, but he had programmed his mobile to buzz a different pattern should she call. This was not Rainmaker, but Jumpdrive. He picked up after the fourth buzz had finished. Only Queens got picked up after three. He took one more sip of coffee before smiling, "What can I do for Jumpdrive today?" Jumpdrive didn't answer, instead noises of a fight coming through. Gunshots included. "Um, hello? Jumpdrive?" "Headshot!" The exclamation came through the mobile loud and clear. Broadcast's first thought was that Jumpdrive was playing a video game, but the gun shots sounded so real, and the patter of rain coming through the receiver told him otherwise. Hearing the audio jumble as Jumpdrive lifted his mobile back to his face, Broadcast started, "I see you've decided to try actually living a lif-" "Broadcast!, I need help here!" Jumpdrive's voice was somewhat panicked, adrenaline clearly coursing through the Epic's veins. Broadcast let out an audible sigh, "And where would 'here' be?" He allowed a touch of annoyance to fill his voice. Of course, Broadcast knew where Jumpdrive was. He could tell which direction, and how far away, the signal was coming from. Allowing for satellite connection, and Broadcast could figure that Jumpdrive was somewhere around SW Third Street. But just simply knowing was no fun. Plus, even if Jumpdrive was in danger, he had a prime invincibility with the firewall of his. It was okay to have a bit of fun. It certainly livened up his job. Buttercup watched the security feed once more. Reports of more attacks were coming through as well. It was too much. First the energy Epic last night, then Insight, then these Ghoul attacks, and finally this new High Epic. Buttercup's thoughts were racing as her frustration grew. What does he want? Why is he here? Why even come to Corvallis at all? Why not take over some other city elsewhere? Ugh, well I'm not getting anywhere just watching this, I need to do something. She looked up at the lieutenant, who was patiently awaiting instructions. "Send some men to go deal with these new attacks. I'll intervene if I have to, whether there's too many or someone rather important is being attacked. Otherwise I'm dealing with this guy," she pointed at the screen. "My lady, don't you need some form of back up? He's a High Epic." The man seemed earnest, not intending the inherent insult in his words. Buttercup shook her head, "No, we don't need to waste men on this. I've got someone else in mind." The man looked somewhat puzzled, but nodded and moved to do as he was told. Good and obedient. Buttercup settled her nerves, taking a few deep breaths. Pulling out her mobile, she dialed Broadcast. Fully expecting to sit for a few seconds as Broadcast did whatever it was he always did to make her wait, she was surprised when the busy tone rang through. Closing the mobile, she considered just sending him a text, but decided it was better to wait a few moments before trying to call one more time. I knew I should've written her number down, rather than just giving her Broadcast's.
  22. Those ideas sound fine, and we can poke holes later if and when they actually come up. As for the time manipulator, we'd need to really work out a rule book for not retconning events, etc., but it's an easy explanation.
