  1. My apologies, I did not realize that was your intention. Though I must say, having gone back and re-read your first post, you really didn't speak against it, but rather supported Morzathoth's original point that morality is merely that which is the norm, that which is believed to be right by the majority, rather than some constant "force" in the universe. Though perhaps once again I've misunderstood you. It sounds like you're leaving. Why would you leave? You've done nothing wrong, and neither have those you've been debating with. You've all merely reached an impasse, in which the debate can not be further taken.
  2. To just step in, for a quick word, you've all missed Morzathoth's original point; morality is a human construct. You all actually kinda proved it in your arguments. Perhaps the conversation has veered away from this and into you all questioning Morzathoth's personal views on morality, or perhaps I missed the conclusion of the original argument. Either way, enjoy. I'll take a popcorn bag, Kaymyth.
  3. That's actually one of the reasons I like Infamous's system; it's mostly your side actions that offer the largest effect to your karma. It's all the times you helped the cops, healed an injured civilian, murdered an annoying street performer, or slaughtered a pedestrian to drain their nerves of electricity, that make up the main portions of your karma. Sure, missions that are specifically good/evil will offer larger chunks of karma, but by the time you max either of the two sides, you've still got five or six more of those decisions to go, because all those little contributions added up in big ways.
  4. I see your point. The only thing I can think of is that they didn't want to make the good/evil choices obvious, but I can only think of one or two situations in which that was the case. Most of the time your choices are pretty black or white...er, red or blue...as to which karma they'll give, so it's a weak argument at best.
  5. Oooh! Someone who's read Reckoners before most of the Cosmere! Coolio! What was your favorite power and/or metaphor from Reckoners thus far?
  6. The thing with Infamous is that they never intended for you to alternate, or at least that was never my impression. They had two stories to tell, one in which Cole chose to be a hero despite the world hating him, and one in which Cole chose to be the villain that the world pushed him towards. I always thought it would have been nice if they'd included the neutral path, but that likely would have been harder to write, since the late game events tend to reference earlier happenings, and so having players choose which hero/evil actions to take could become complicated.
  7. I too am a mosquito magnet. I once doused myself in mosquito repellent, using half a bottle, and leaving my skin feeling moist and greasy. After 30 minutes, I had accumulated more bites than my cousin, who wasn't wearing any repellent, with a count of 32-1.
  8. So here's the deal. There have been some of your posts where I've thought that maybe you were in the wrong, or that I understood where your mother was coming from (note here that I am not a parent, and am in fact a little younger than you). That being said, the majority of what your mother does is bad parenting. Your mother (and father) have been attempting to breed you into being younger copies of themselves, which isn't right. A good parent should be able to recognize that their child is a different human being, with different life experiences and as such will be different come adult hood. A good parent doesn't punish their child for being different. A good parent doesn't punish their child for thinking freely, even if it means allowing the child to have differing opinions (and should such a situation arise, a good parent would engage in meaningful discussion, and attempt to persuade the child's opinion like any other human being). A good parent isn't vengeful toward their child. A good parent doesn't take out their anger on their child. A good parent doesn't teach their child to be closed minded, nor do they punish their child for having an open mind or for being accepting. A good parent doesn't try to pit their children against each other. A good parent should trust their child, and should the child perform an action that loses said trust, a good parent helps the child gain their trust back. A good parent isn't your mother. A psychiatrist that agrees with your mother for most of the issues you've brought up here is not a good psychiatrist. Though it should be noted that a good psychiatrist should try and help you understand where your mother is coming from, downright agreeing with you mother for the majority of the issues is just wrong. I guess my point is that sure, a psychiatrist might occasionally agree with your mother, but chances are they won't. On top of that, it's not a psychiatrist's job to tell you whether you are in the right or wrong, but rather to help you better understand yourself so that you can adjust your life, in both habits and mindset, to minimize negative feelings. At least, that's my understanding of their jobs.
  9. I've been using Cosmerenaut since I joined a year ago. Not a fan of the 'o' thrown in there, personally.
  10. You should call them that. To their faces. If they are Sanderfans they'll likely accept you immediately. If they don't, they can't treat you any worse?
  11. It was pretty sick. Let me know if they play Majesty. At some point during the show a couple of people got the whole crowd chanting it between songs, at which point Hansi was like "Yeah, that's not on the set list guys..." but the chanting continued, and they wound up playing it. I have no idea if this was deliberate, or if they actually swapped a song out for Majesty. So if they don't play Majesty, I'd be interested in knowing what they played instead. I won't spoil the show, but Grave Digger had a fantastic 45-minute set, and then Guardian went for a very long time, giving some love to pretty much every album. To hype you up a bit, Guardian has a cool surprise for the audience that I won't spoil, and also don't leave until the venue begins to pack up (they walked off stage two or three times to then return for more songs). I loved the show, and would definitely go again given the chance. If you like metal, you'll have a good time.
  12. I'm going to use spoilers because the following is actually one of Quiver's theories that he's shared with me. But with him living in the UK, he's an episode behind us, plus his life gets in the way so sometimes he's two or three behind. Anyways, I'll sum up his theory:
  13. As Twi said, powerful comes second. There's nothing wrong with being powerful so long as you're interesting as well! I think you've got both covered.
  14. I enjoyed the Fate route anime. It's dated, but then a lot of anime is dated. Plus, I always have to give it credit for treating Caster the way the VN did (she pops in, says "I am Caster, fear me!" and then gets slaughtered by Gilgamesh Highlight for Spoilers). And I worry about the HF movie(s). HF was such a brutal, dark, and twisted pathway. I'll be sad if they don't do it justice, and I'll be disturbed if they do
  15. Here's a theory of mine that after some discussion concluded in Sebarial being a likely Willshaper.
  16. I thought Brandon WoB-ed it as end positive (which always confused me)? Edit: Nevermind, I found that he WoB-ed it as end neutral. I have no idea how I got the end positive WoB in my head... Good call Once-ler! Edit 2: End-neutral systems are systems in which the net power change is 0. To use the Scadrian examples, Allomancy is end-positive because the net power is >0. The Allomancer burns the metal, and gains a power while said metal is burning. There are no true downsides from simple, average use. The Allomancer doesn't lose something to gain that power. Hemalurgy, then, is end-negative because the net power change is negative. This loss of power occurs after the spiking of powers, where some of it leaks away before being placed in a new host. Feruchemy, then, is end-neutral. A Feruchemist has to store their powers, to then use them later. When taking advantage of speed, one has to store speed to then gain it later. Sure, you can adjust the speed in which the metalmind fills and empties, but in the end one doesn't gain additional speed, there is never speed creation. So, Awakening's use of color has nothing to do with it. Rather, the fact that Breath isn't lost to the user is what makes the system end neutral. Lifeless are then a special case within the system. As for the Old Magic, I don't think we know enough yet to classify it. Considering the boons have the potential to be "super powers", such as Lift's metabolism, I'd say it's end-positive. The bane doesn't matter much, since it can't remove powers (or at least, we've yet to see it do so).
  17. Just to make sure you understand (I have no idea how much you know about the various Holy Grail Wars), Unlimited Blade Works is one of the possible sequels to Fate/Zero (though technically Fate/Zero is the prequel, not the original). The other two paths that the timeline can take are known as Fate/Stay Night (otherwise known as the Fate pathway) and Heaven's Feel. All three pathways (Fate, UBW, HF, played in that order) are a visual novel titled Fate/Stay Night that was originally for the PC, then ported to the PS2 in Japan. Fate/Zero was then a light novel prequel that was written after the sequel visual novel, Fate/Hollow Ataraxia was created. Since then, the Fate pathway has been turned into a series (which had hints of the other paths too because the creators didn't know whether they'd get the chance to make the others), UBW has been turned into both a movie and a series, Fate/Zero has been turned into a series, and HF is now being turned into a movie (which frightens me). I have to assume you knew this already, but the post didn't make it clear so I wanted to be sure
  18. Did you lose it in a particularly painful way, or was it mutual? My childhood best friend, whom I hung out with literally 5 days a week, all day, for 10 years, and I wound up growing apart when we hit high school, due to our differences in likes, dislikes, and hobbies. It was a mutual thing. I hope yours was the same, so that it isn't too sad?
  19. I'm only expecting one other end negative system, at most, from the Cosmere, and a few more end neutrals, since we currently only have one, and if end negative is the rarest, then there must be at least one more end neutral. Keep in mind that according to WoB from some time ago, there are no other diametrically opposite Shards. There might be Shards that seem to be opposites, but only Preservation and Ruin are perfect opposites. I also didn't mean to imply that end neutral can only come about from two opposite Shards birthing a magic system. I fully expect a single Shard system to form one of the end neutrals that are sure to come in the future, but the two Shards combining seems to be the explanation for Feruchemy.
  20. From his response it sounds like he means that there is a means to Awaken an object that allows others to take the Breaths, considering we know straight from the book that you can't retrieve someone else's Breath out of an object they've Awakened through regular means.
  21. The Breaths ought to be lost unless someone else comes along with the same identity as the deceased original owner, which to my knowledge is only possible through Hemalurgy (Highlight for spoilers).
  22. Sel's magic is a conglomeration of two Shards. No one said that a magic system made from two Shards had to be end neutral. In fact, Feruchemy probably only wound up end neutral because the magic system fueled by Preservation alone is end positive and the one fueled by Ruin is end negative, so they cancel into an end neutral for their combined magic system. To put it another way, Feruchemy is end neutral because the two Shards that created it are perfect opposites.
  23. I don't know if that's possible or not, but when a user changes their username, none of the boxes in which they've been quoted change. So, for example, if you were to change your name to Cuddlebug, and someone came and looked at this thread, they'd see the post above mine, by Cuddlebug, but then the same text, word for word, quoted in my post from a user named Delightful. If you're reading old threads, it's not too difficult to work out old usernames, particularly if they haven't changed their profile picture.
