I get the feeling there aren't that many of those fabrials, which is why not that many people, even among the ardents have one. They were made sometime in the past and the method to make them has since been lost. And they are considered to be holy artifacts which is why only the ardents are allowed to use them.

There's also the fact that the Way of Kings was the book that inspired the Knights Radiant, and Kaladin is on the path to being a Knight Radiant.

The Heralds were already kind of messed up by the torture they'd already suffered when they walked out I think. Also, being alone for thousands of years with nobody they could really talk to can't have been good for their sanity. As for the Nightwatcher being a Herald, my gut feeling is no, but then Brandon did say the Heralds are very powerful, and we don't know how powerful that might make them. So we don't really have enough information.

I've had the theory that the gemhearts are some kind of natural fabrial for a while, this little tidbit just makes me more sure.

I can see Daliinar being like, "I won't order you to do this because you'd probably get killed, but if you want to take that risk I appreciate it.", and we know darn well Kaladin wouldn't be able to walk away and Bridge 4 wouldn't walk away from Kaladin. Heck, knowing Kaladin even if he was ordered to not get involved he'd still get involved.

I don't think people in real life are anywhere near as good at knowing when they are being watched as they think they are, people remember the times they had that feeling and looked around and somebody was watching them, but don't remember the times when nobody was watching them, confirmation bias. I know I'm constantly being startled by people walking up behind or beside me and talking to me, of course the fact that I'm blind in one eye doesn't help.

there's no way Dalinar's going to just roll over and let himself be killed, and there's no way Adolin would let him roll over and let himself be killed. Besides Dalinar's focus book is probably going to be book 3 so he can't die in book 2 cause then it wouldn't make sense to have flashbacks from his point of view in book 3.
