  1. I dont think they would (necessarily) hate it, I just dont think they would perceive it quite the same way since they are hearing literal Absolute pitches rather than the relative perception we do, and they'd get far more nuance. Would that ruin the experience? Would it ruin Pizza if you were sensitive enough to taste all the individual ingredients instead of just the big notes of Salt, Greece, Marinara? Probably depends on the indivdual Returned more than anything. I do expect they'd be able to appreciate music that is written and performed by those with the relevant Heightenings, just as they do for paintings.
  2. FUN! (No real pinball experience but I'm a mechanical/controls engineer, so it's tangentially my jam) Random thoughts RGB LED's everywhere, with Color-coded play modes based on the radiant Orders (plus some baleful looking Void setting?). Gems with LEDs as the Stormlight meter. Maybe you have to trigger a Highstorm and then hit certain targets to Infuse the gems? "Soulcasting" to temporarily replace the steel ball with a rubber one (is this even a thing in pinball?) Summon "Shardplate" to put a block in the trough temporarily, uses Stormlight Summon "Shardblade" to add an active bounce/kick to the surface of the main paddles (there's a term for this?), uses Stormlight [more to come after coffee]
  3. Do one of those 6-panel "What I think I do vs the world vs my friends etc, for each character. (Kaladin would be a lot of fun, I think.) template example: what the world thinks I do meme
  4. Presumably any senses that require actual physical features would not be magically restored by tapping, but I think it's a question worth asking. I do think that if it does magically restore sight after blinding, it would work for the same window as Gold Healing, and that once they arent part of your cognitive aspect you wouldnt be able to tap the metalminds anymore. The magical senses dont have that barrier, and I cant really think of an equivalent. On the other hand, there is overlap in other metals of the metallic arts, so maybe a blind person tapping sight would be healed, temporarily or otherwise?
  5. I could definitely see a connection but Whimsey cant be Trell itself. Per WOB it's one of the shards we knew of at the time, and per a later one it's not Endowment specifically.
  6. Compounding Tin is one of my absolute favorites! Yes, as far as we know you can store and thus compound allomantic senses like Bronze (or even off-world senses like Life-sense). I suspect Atium is going to be an exception because of how it's creating a real-time peak into the Spiritual Realm and because it's also augmenting your mind enough to interpret what you perceive. Also just being a Godmetal imply that its effects take higher quantities of INvestiture than would be available with normal metals (but that feels like it would end up being more of a narrative choice if and when it becomes relevant). I dont think so for the reasons above. If it did do something I suspect it would be dangerous and drive them crazy, getting all the sensory input but not the cognitive augmentation needed to handle that firehose. Compounding is a hack of the two system that is not necessarily safe to use. Electrum on the other hand might indeed able to be compounded indefinitely. No, the spike or Medallion is what grants them the ability to both Fill or Tap metalminds. The Metalminds would remain Invested but would be unreachable until the person recovered the ability (unless they were created UnKeyed, of course).
  7. INTERESTING! That implies that Identity and Connection are more functionally adjacent than I thought. If the language is on the Connection side but your accent is on the Identity side, that implies that Identity is the Internal equivalent (in some ways at least). That has potential...
  8. Honestly I never really imagined them with accents on the logic that the Connection medallions would strip them away, leaving at most the coloquial/regional usages.
  9. The power in Hemalurgy comes from the fact that it is ripping a chunk of functional Spiritweb from a person and splicing it into somebody else's, potentially including the piece of their soul that gets Allomanic Power from Preservation (or any other shard/magic, in theory). It's doesn't replicate those other effects or powers, it Steals and splices the bit of Soul directy. Generally, the first one in line Donates the Spiritweb, and the second receives it. This is more or less how the Inquisitors did things in The Final Empire to prevent decay. That being said, Intent is pretty key to a lot of Hemalurgy, so it's possible that you could load a single spike with multiple donors and then grant it to the last in line. But it is hard to Invest something that is already Invested, so there will be resistance the 2nd and subsequent times. You cant empower multiple people with a single Spike because the spike needs to be left in the person to do actually anything, literally stapling the two people together. However, You can charge a spike and then physically split it, keeping a proportional amount of power in each spike piece.
  10. Welcome! Just Participate, I think. Geek out with us. Jump in to the conversations, offer thoughts, listen to others, all that typical social jazz. There's also a pretty active Role-Play area, if that's your thing.

  12. Quantus

    Theory on vax

Which actually could fit the Op's theory pretty well. Yolen had all three sentient races, and at least two of them have entire ecosystem's associated with them. It would make a lot of sense to me for them to have each have their own continental regions.
  13. Good call, that's probably the base Aon. The rest of the innovation is likely to be discovering new uses for other aon as Modifiers.
  14. Oh, I wasn't even sure that would work with the field effect issue, I was thinking traditional (if substantially oversized) plate armor soulcast elsewhere in segments and strapped on.
  15. It's definitely one way to do it, and a great way to protect against all kinds of foreign Investiture. And the Scadrians can do something almost nobody else in the Cosmere can do, which is draw nearly unlimited Investiture directly from the Spiritual Realm, so they dont need to be at all miserly about it's use. Stormlight, Breathes, or even Dor that have already been Imported (in specific quantities) from the the spiritual realm. The only thing that comes close so far is the Bondsmith ability to combine the realms.
  16. This should work, and now that Radiants are back they aren't reliant on finding a Soulcaster capable of Aluminum (or offworld sources, I suppose). The only catch Im aware of is that Aluminum's ability to disrupt investiture is a bit of a field effect, which may or may not cause issues with how the Thundercast animate their stone bodies. The armor would also be innately non-magical so gaps are going to be somewhat inevitable, since it cant conform the way plate would, or otherwise have non-standard material properties or movement.
  17. A Useful tool they taught us for this kind of thing is to draw a "Control Boundary" around any piece of the system, and you can treat it as a single object (more or less). So in this case you can take everything on top of the structure as a whole, and if you add 10 lbs of Anything to it, it will add 10 lbs to the weight being supported by the structure. It's boyancy within the water really just determines how it settles inside the container, and at most adding it will add to the pressure on the sides of the vessel since they are now supporting water+object. Now, technically, all objects also do have Buoyancy in the any fluid including the Air itself, but that actual value is so miniscule we can and do ignore it in all but the most precise cases. It's like how technically any two objects have a gravitational force between them, but the only ones that are big enough to factor into most anything practical are the astronomically large ones.
  18. I dont think it's jus teh Connection requirement, since that's also the case for most of the Selish magics.
  19. Do you have a link to this WOB? Id like to see his exact wording. There are a lot of things in the Cosmere that are similar because they are built on common realmic mechanisms, but are not literally the same thing. When they are literally the same it has a lot more implications on the history and evolution of the Cosmere. Rysn got a burst of color enhancement consistent with a bunch of breaths, but if it's literal Heightening effects then we can assume she has Life Sense, Perfect Pitch/Color, Immortality, Instinctive Investiture use, etc. etc. which is a much bigger deal. From the other examples we have, just a big store of any kind of investiture alone wont create the Heightenings. We've seen people Ascend from overuse of Metallic Arts (Atium) without gaining other Heightening effects. We've also seen LTR need to hack Atium for a dangerous limited Immortality when he had access to more than the 5th Heightenings worth of Investiture.
  20. I dont think so, if for nothing else than because the Drab state seems to have shortcomings in several different Metals' purview. They have strength, health, mental speed, and maybe Senses, Energy, and Determination all affected. Fwiw. Drabs can use feruchemical medallions, fwiw, though they "are missing a little bit of something". I suspect they'd fill it a lot slower, and/or have smaller max storage rates, etc. Where was that in Dawnshard? The only thing analogous to Heightenings I recall seeing in SA is the increased color aura effect when Nightblood is drawn. ANd we have several examples of people having more investiture than heightenings and not exhibiting the Heightening effects.
  21. Hard to say. It can happen fast enough, from what little we've seen. The only real catch I see is that Regrowth might require maintained contact infusing the Investiture during the growth process (which is how it looked with Lift in WoR). If so, they could definitely weaponize it to some extend but might not be able to make it a ranged / thrown weapon.
  22. Fair enough. My point was that previously it had been one Godmetal Per Perpendicularity, so it would follow that if the two Shards are intermingled enough to crystalize a new Godmetal, they are intermingled enough to have the separate Perpendicularities come together. But if you are right and he's maintaining two Perpendicularities, that would also open the possibility that Harmony actually has two different Godmetals with different ratio's of Ruin to Preservation.
  23. Sooo, Endowment actually Created the human life on Nalthis, the way P&R created them on Scadrial?
  24. That's my understanding as well, that the letherbounds were previously all Signed (though maybe on an insert sometimes?), but that they were considering non-signed because of the near constant demand for them.
  25. The interference is confirmed to be a natural Fortune interaction involved in seeing the future and not something specific to Roshar or Renarin. I would imagine the actual Influence of a given misting would vary greatly by their nature and personality, and would argue that in a less interesting Time Renarin might have gone his whole life without telling anyone he saw the future; had he lived his quiet life in the ardentia, he might never have actually had a noticeable impact on the course of things. Also, fwiw, Renarin was Greyed out in that he cannot 100% predict him, but that doesnt mean he cannot make reasonable guesses from his Vantage on the edge of Infinity. Given what Vin proved you can do against Atium, a shard can presumably do a lot more, so they can at least see a lot further down the possible timelines (and probably make a reliable short list) even if they cannot predict it with 100% perfect accuracy. And setting aside the mortals involved, in both Scadrial and Roshar you have two Shards that live in the Spiritual Realm fighting, and it's probably their vantages (and perception based changes to the timeline) that are the most difficult to work around. Compared to the aitum shadows of a Shard, the short-term insight of Allomancy or the reflexive and uncontrolled visions of Renarin are probably a lot easier to plan around.
