  1. The Dark Alley is a humanitarian non-profit group inside the sevententh shard that wishes to advance the study if the human soul and its augumentation. Many times it was injustly declared of forcibly coercing donors by those who would rather stop the advancement of mankind, and some superstitious fools claim their very science is "evil", as if morality was more than an illusion made by the weak to restrain the strong. They are commonly know as "hemalurgists", by the way. They have cookies.
  2. There is a WoB out there that says only a shard or splinter could fully understand realmatics, wich implies having a mind expanded by large amounts of investiture doens't only heightens your perception and intellect, but allows you to grasp concepts that would be otherwise uncomprehensible and alien.
  3. But wouldn't the expanded mind of a shard help him understand his intent?
  4. Sazed changing snapping to be less brutal, thus tweeking the laws of allomancy?
  5. Weiry, I have a question: why do you assume most spren we have seen are of Honor and Cultivation? Is it because of Jasnah's theory, because it was done with very limited knowledge by people who never heard of an "Adonalsium".
  6. Maybe... Or maybe the rhythms are a manifestation born of the cognitive realm in general, and any being with enough connection to the cognitive can perceive them in a way. Jasnah, for exemple, compared the parshendi drums with the rattling of the beads in shadesmar.
  7. Syl said she helped people kill before, wich indicates she was one of the original spren that bonded the ancient KR. She also said she could dissolve her bond with Kaladin when he asked her if she was responsible for what was happening to him. So there is a difference between a Radiant quiting or dying and betraying their oaths.
  8. She could awaken a lifeless, or a realistic enough dummy with a very simple command
  9. First, Reckoners isn't cosmere. Second, the shards' power physicaly manifesting as metal in its solid form is something unique to scadrial (and Roshar if we count shardblades), as far as we know, as are metals being used to channel their power.
  10. Plus, the spren returns to the cognitive realm when the surgebinder dies.
  11. I disagree with this theory. Curses do not go against Cultivation's mandate(wich I think is growth, rather than survival), since they are a way of forcing change and adaptation. You must remenber the Nightwatcher only gives curses as a price for her boons and gives people what she thinks they deserve, so in this case it is more about mantaining simmetry than tormenting people. Come to the Nightwatcher and ask for what you need, but don't bother her unless you are sure you can't do othereise, or you know you will be able to put your boon to good use.
  12. Yes, I do.
  13. Maxal, thank you for your great and well thought reply. I agree with most of what you said, but I just wanted to clear up some possible misunderstandings: First, I don't think Adolin will be generaly happy when away from his family, or that he will let it go and forget his exile, I just think learning to not let change and separation destroy him will be an important part of his journey. Second, yes, I believe Dalinar will need the most conforting. The impacts of exile on Adolin will be immediate, he will mourn the loss of all he loved, he will blame himself, he will be broken and he will never fully heal. But Dalinar won't be there to help him throught the worst of it, he will need help from someone else or to find hidden strenght inside himself so he won't be instantly destroyed in a maybe unreversible way. Dalinar, on the other side, is able to keep a cool head and a stony heart at first. But then, he mulls thinks over, reconsiders them. He holds on to grudges and debts. He still worshiped his brother enough to keep him from Navani, and told her he would never banish the guilt. He must enforce his honor on all around him, because he is still guilty from what he did before he found it. He feels guilty about being a tyrant, when the more immediate threat of the end of all things forced him to. He is the one who will cry the most when Adolin comes, not because his wounds were deeper, but because they opened later and didn't have time to heal.
  14. Maybe just summoning the blade would be enough of a truth, since it seemed to be about as buried as the killing of her father.
  15. Uh, it could be worse. At least he plans to actualy write the books, unlike a certain sequel that would tell us some important things about a certain worldhopper that has created a very important thing.
  16. Please don't do that. I didn't mean to scare you away. It is just that I thought you posted too impulsively, and didn't realize the irony of impulsively insulting you for it. Feel free to post(although it would be better for us to understand if you try improve your writing skills and double read to avoid typos. I myself have to edit my posts all the time to try to get rid of them).
  17. The Skyface is just how he appears to those he talks to directly. His physical anchor is the center of the storm itself, and his "body" is mostly spiritual and cognitive. This also allows Kaladin to be the storm during his dreams but not the stormfather himself, by sharing his physical anchor while suspended between the three realms. Whenbthe stormfather speaks to him he is pulled further awayfrom the physical and sees the Skyface. In this moment he can't see the cognitive or spiritual becayse he is in the spiritual, but is only conected to the Stormfather himself.
  18. It is not directly stated in the book itself, but strongly implied by Syl saying that all Knights Radiant were broken, and it is outright stated in the WoR back cover that only broken souls can have surgebindings inserted into them, and Brandon confirmed that to use external investiture(like surgebinding or allomancy) there need to be cracks in your soul.
  19. Maxal, I did not imply he would be happier during his exile, just that he wpuld be happier after his exile and reunion with his family, because of all he learned. Maybe I value independence too much, maybe I don't know how it is to be attached to someone the way Adolin is to his family, but I do think that should he learn how to live away from them and don't succumb to despair, but find new strenght and purpose, it would make their reunion much more powerful. I do not see Adolin coming back from exile laughing, but I want to see him coming back with newfound confidence, neither the young duelist so eager to help his father, nor the furious man who killed Sadeas in the dark. Yes, Adolin would be broken by being forced to part ways with his family, but perhaps he would have some consolation in knowing they were safe. And maybe after recovering from despair he could start to slowly rebuild, maybe even find people he can trust almost as much as his family, and when he or his father is ready, they could meet again. And this time, I feel Dalinar will be the one broken by guilt, and Adolin will be there to help him.
  20. I am not sure why Spook would be a Edgedancer, since I don't see he being motivated by his immediate compassion and care for others like Lift or maybe Adolin. But if there is somethin he wanted, it was to be useful, to serve Kelsier, to help built his new world, to obey the last wish of the man who he saw as an enbodiement of what he should strive for.
  21. Interesting, because I think Dalinar has to relearn how to learn, or learn how to change even when he is not forced to. Slowly coming to regret having banished his son is going to help that. Adolin, on the other side, needs to lose some of the little boy in him, always in awe if his father. He is already one of the few people capable of standing up to Dalinar, and whatever he becomes his father heir or takes another path, it will only do good to both him and Dalinar if he sees his father as his equal. In my opinion, an ideal reunion after exile would have Dalinar welcoming his son, glad to see he is well but devastated by guilty, and Adolin convincing his father he did nothing wrong by banishing him, and that he found himself wiser, and perhaps happier, after all he went throught. And I personaly like the idea of Adolin renouncing his place as a prince to live a simplier life, dedicated to helping others and giving them hope in a more personal way, since he never expressed any desire for power to change the world, visionary dream, wish of stabity or even thought much about the future of his princedom, but he does express great immediate concern for those beneath him, a strong sense of morality and does not realy care about acting like a member of the royal family.
  22. Continuing with my previous line of thought, I actualy would prefer that if Adolin got exiled and eventualy found a new life for himself, he wasn't forced to reconcile with his father. Any reconciliation and reunion should happen only because both wish it, after the action. It annoys me when all important character development happens because of some immediate danger forcing it(AKA:"You must find the words, Kaladin")
  23. I am sorry if it was hurtful, but I honestly think that in cases like this it is better to step back a while and pay attention while things settle themselves in both yours and other people's heads. I did put it in a brusque way, and I admit that social tact is not one of my strenghts, but I believe it was better to give my honest advice, even if in a less than perfect manner, than to let it stay unspoken in fear of offending. If something like this does happen again I will be more careful. EDIT: And about my attack on Eternal_Radiance's previous posts, I have gotten myself carried away and the constructive aspects of my criticism were buried under the agressive tone, but I didn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to post his ideas, and I am actualy curious about what they will look like if more developed.
  24. I once dreamt I was standing at my school's gym with another students, arranged in perfect circles of seven people each, staring at one another without moving while the chemistry teacher wandered between groups, sometimes entering one of them, staying for ten minutes and leaving. Nobody spoke anything during the dream. I touched the hand of the student standing to my right, and felt her skin was wet and cold, as if covered by condensation, but seemed dry. So I ran as fast as I could. Why? Because there was only one explanation for the sensory dissonance: she was an illusion, a phantasm wrought of mist. And I knew everyone else was one too, so to escape the dream trap, I ran. Of course, by the time I had half-realized the unreality of my prision, and the laws of physics started to give alway to the soreveingty of the awakened mind, allowing me to run on air to escape faster. And yet, there was something wrong, something I had to do before escaping, a terrible realization that came to me less than one second after I started to run: my body, too, was an illusion. With less than a single thought, I discarted my body and watched it collapse like a flying ragdoll and started running in the other direction, or in this case dilocating my disembodied counciousness across the dreascape in search of an exit. But it wasn't long before I noticed something: I still had a body. That illusory prision was proving itself more resilient than I expected, I couldn't rely on my cognitive power alone to disperse it. No, I would have to find the center of the dream and disrupt it. Thankfully I knew where was the center... So I charged my teacher with the speed of the wind itself, and the last thing I saw was her terrified face before I finnaly escaped and woke up.
  25. I think it is about time the boast is passed and we try a new one.
