Correction: he got his Plate as a gift. His blade was won in a duel nobody expected him to win.

This is my speculation about the nature of the Truthwatcher Immortal Words, and most below is a direct trascription of my post in the "Anything you felt should have been done differently in The Stormlight Archive?" topic: First, I believe the Lightweavers are not the only order with only one oath. I believe all orders that don't operate with a strict hierarchy and are unlikely to be part of "field action" don't need rigid guidelines and can act under a more subjetive and nuanced morality. Or, if the spren is not picky, just follow the first oath and be done with it. Now, lets look at some what we know of truthwatchers: 1.They were secretive. 2.They were esoteric. 3.They were tactful and careful. 4.They see the future. Now, lets look at what we know about another form of future sight: From the reddit AMA.I have theorized that this is how all future sight in the cosmere works: you plug your subcounciouss mind directly into all nearby cognitive aspects and their perceptions and calculate what will happen if no new element enters the system. What does this have to do with the Words? Well, look at what I posted in the other thread: The truthwatchers are said to be one of the most secretive orders. I believe there is a pragmatic aspect to it. If we consider true the theory that all "future sight" in the cosmere is actualy mathematical predictions done with temporary nigh onmiscience, like a powered up diagram, then it makes sense to withold information until it is most useful, since any new element added to the system makes predictions made before it was know more likely to fall apart. However, if the only people with the knowledge have a strong natural predisposition to keep it to themselves, then they risk being uselessly fatalistic, since their prophecies always come true because they decided it was better to endure them than risking change. This way, the progression of the order would relate to keeping this balance: holding on to secrets and staying in the shadows, but revealing the truth and stepping into the spotlight when it is needed. This means their progression depends on first keeping something hidden and holding on to it long enough before revealing it, much like the lies lightweavers must tell themselves in order to later destroy them, except in relation to other people. This also applies in a more personal scale, with stepping into the light or staying in the shadows. I believe it will be an as important part of Renarin's journey to stop risking himself uselessly for his family as it will be to learn to be more open about his actions. The interplay of light and shadows, revelation and occultation, also enhaces the esoteric air of the order and works as a powerful imagery, but on the same hand enforces the isolation of the truthwatchers, because their preference for watching over acting, their extreme discretion and their openly mysterious attitude make them seem suspicious, and when they come forward with information that changes everything without saying why they witheld it for so long, it comes as if they were manipulating everything like shadowy puppetmasters, when those who are more likely to be the ones manipulating people do so under a mask of normalcy.

Rashek couldn't keep Preservation... Still, I don't think he is a sliver because the only exemple we have of someone who partialy held a shard for a brief period created the storming world of ash. Still, I like the idea that the Diagram is indee more supernatural than we believe, since I believe all future sight in the cosmere is just that: very good mathematical guesses with otherworldly perception.

He was not nervous in front of the numbers, but in the Adolin chapter where he first meets Eshonai(26, The Feather), when he goes back and Renarin is still sitting throught the shock of having summoned his blade, Adolin speaks briefily to him and Renarin is left muttering "Need to be ready for the coming storm. So little time". From the normaly quiet Renarin, that seems pretty intense and creepy. He was not openly nervous about the numbers themselves, but he seemed to be terrified about what they predict.
-
He was scribing numbers. All zeroes. After asking the almighty why he was cursed with seeing the future itself. And throught the book he was one of the characters that seemed more worried about the little time they had. He saw the everstorm would blow in the wrong direction just a little before pattern said the same thing in a clearer way. I am surprised so many people didn't notice it.

It was mostly to reflect his philosophy of preserving knowledge, not his feruchemy. Plus, it would offer an interesting mechanic that some decks with lots of vidency, recicling and drawing and discarting could use somehow. For the planeswalker idea, if it is written in the permanent itself that it can't use abilities while tapped, it doens't matter if it is a planeswalker or not.
-
There was nothing wrong in bringing this thread back. It is relevant, up to date(since it is not like any new WoB came about that rattle) and Corax added an interesting, if unlikely, possibility.
-
Yes. Or, to make it more exceptional, instead make it a passive that allows you to send cards from your hand to the top of your library when you would be forced to discart them. Of course, it should be enough to remove all other abilities. Also, if someone makes Sazed, Hero of Ages into a planeswalker, he should gain loyalty points by tapping himself and not untapping in your next untap step, to show how bad he is at actualy being active after ascending.

When did Dalinar Start Bonding with the Stormfather?
DreamEternal replied to ivoryblade's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sorry. Is it possible to see other people's gender above their posts in the desktop version? The mobile version is quite minimalistic, so when I post and I forget someones gender my brain defaults to male. I will edit my post. -
There is not such a thing as less or more than human. There is human and non-human and a shaky line in between.Human≠person. All humans are people, but if you uploaded a human mind into a computer, in my opinion that person wouldn't be a human, even having a human mind. I see "human" as the name of the species, a pure biological descriptor. Being mentaly different makes no difference. For exemple, lets compare Szeth to the kandra: blind loyalt to the costums of his society, being willing to follow a terrible pact because of your religion, being cultiraly isolated from other peoples and seeing them as inferior, it all checks. Yet, he is human and they are not anymore. Even better: you said Spook is still human, depite Sazed himself saying that tin savants are in some ways not humans anymore. He did not say this to diminish Spook, he did not say this to say he was beneath humans during his time as a savant. He was just as much of a person as anyone else. Yet, from Sazed's point of view it was a fact he wasn't human. Humanity is overrated.

She just upvoted you so your rep stays the same. It is a habit we sharders have of compensating for what we see as unneeded downvotes. -
Roshar is the 4th land, coincidence?
DreamEternal replied to Fallen Rope's topic in Stormlight Archive
Thera are ten major shardworlds, so Yolen could only be one of them if a shard had stayed there after the shattering. -
We need more Eshonai ships.

The Cosmere-Realization Face
DreamEternal replied to AndrewStirlingMacDonald's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yeah, warriors of fire fits the third book better. And releasing the split books with a gap between is just unfair. But on the bright side I would never have guessed you were not a native speaker of english by your writing. I wonder how many here in the shard are foreigners who read the books in their original language.- 23 replies

Are We Being Too Biased towards Odium?
DreamEternal replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
And yet it becomes harder with time... How does it work? Is the shard's influence proportional to the holder's willpower? Does its strenght grows in a declining geometric progression, eventualy reaching a limit? If given a strong enough motivation not aligned with Ruin, could Ati prevent the destruction of Scadrial? Could Rayse feel compassion, even after all these milennia? That answer just makes things harder to understand. -
So I finally finished Words of Radiance...
DreamEternal replied to lwd24era's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actualy, leaving his death ambiguous is what I believe the only good thing in the new ending, since any there was no character development given to be Kaladin by having him miraculously change the course kf his blow so he wouldn't kill the assassin, since he expected Szeth to easily parry the feint while Szeth wanted to die. And letting he fall into the storm with no lashings after sparing him, because Syl though the blade was more important and she just didn't care, then mentaly insist the assassin could have somehow survived and refuse to say he killed him? Unbelievable. Stormfather, that was a long unneeded rant.- 16 replies

DreamEternal replied to Fallen Rope's topic in Stormlight Archive
Perhaps Sel could be Tanat/Stone/Bone? Has links to its geographicaly based magic and to the Dhakor. Nalthis seems more likely to be conected to exhalation, since even to receive Breaths there needs to be a command, and there is no inhalation required. Plus, the essence of smoke and opaque gas can be linked to awakening needing colors. -

Is that so? Then why is he obviusly cryptic and mysterious instead of staying out of view and acting normaly? And why does he always chooses disguises that force him to interact directly with many people and show them his intellect, wisdow and wit? And reversing your question, why does it pleases him so much to behave in ways that draw attention to himself?
-
He was his apprentice, and Hoid can't really "go normal" for too long. He is almost as attention hungry as Kelsier. It does not surprise me that Sigzil knows he isn't a mere mortal. Who knows, maybe he even learned some tricks or secrets from him.
-
Why can't Hoid have human motivations and thoughts? What matters is that he isn't fully human anymore, just like a tin savant, except in all physical aspects. That does not stop him from thinking like a human.
-
Yes, and I believe he is at least very slow aging. I just believe there can be other explanations.

I wouldn't say she is off-color(unless you mean the card frame should be red). Forcing creatures to attack and turning mana into damage are both associated with red, and regenerating creatures, while more a green thing, can be accepted. And her personality does seem to fit with red to me.
-
Uh, you should generaly avoid ressurecting old threads unless most of their information is still up to date and you have something important to add.
