  1. Second sentance of the above paragraph. The plural of 'axis' is 'axes', not 'axi'.
  2. As someone who found it, if you really want to find and early copy, I suggest going to smaller, non-chain bookstores. Places like Barnes and Nobel are more likely to be under orders from management to not sell it early
  3. The WoB you are recalling says that only some Shards have numbers associated with them iirc.
  4. https://www.tor.com/2017/11/06/oathbringer-non-spoiler-review/
  5. I love that this forum is a place where discussions rooted in belief don't immediately turn to crap-slinging matches . This is actually an interesting discussion! @Steeldancer and @Islington, if you can imagine yourself without your belief, does that version of you still believe in absolute morality? Why? And I have the opposite questions for you, @Calderis. edit: Ninja'd
  6. With the titular sword making an appearance this week, and who it was given to, I thought would be start to analyze Amaram as the Oathbringer author. Lets run through some of these: Epigraphs that fit Amaram We know that Amaram has done some things that could be considered heresy. He disobeyed Alethi code on who aquisition of Shards, writes despite being a man, and seems to have helped/tried to help Voidbringers return to Roshar. I would say he holds some heretical views, but obviously some more of what hes done will have to be made common knowledge before he hypothetically writes this. Amaram, certainly has a history of painting himself in a dishonest light, so I could see him addressing this if he was to write Oathbringer. This is a bit of a stretch, but he has had people who looked up to him heavily murdered, and that actually is a piece of info that is well known. I could only see this being written if Amaram get a wake up call and realizes that hes messed up, both in what he did to Kaladin and what he did as a Son of Honor. Conclusion I still think a few other characters seem much more likely candidates, but him having inherited the sword is certainly points in his favor. For him to be the author i think he would have to be a surprise tertiary character with some kind of arc, but that is a possibility. Part two, according to Brandon, has some new viewpoint characters and is largely character driven/slower paced. I'm hyped to finally finish this set of long winded epigraphs next week.
  7. Necro-ing again. And triple posting. Now that we know that we have a good idea that death is connected to the Unmade, I find this theory more likely.
  8. She wasn't surprised, she was on the chase. If what you guys think happened was what Brandon was trying to convey, then she saw the thing, chased it into a room (which she found empty) and decided to stop, cast a bunch of illusions, go into a battle stance, then not take back in her Stormlight like she had been doing despite the prescence of a threat. That just doesn't make much sense to me.
  9. They are bound to Braize just like the Heralds/Voidbringers are. They can come to Roshar during a desolation. The murders started right after the Everstorm first hit, and if this thing seems to have been corrupted by Odium. I believe that it is using his investiture. Edit: We have also know that some Cognitive Entities are able to use powers without Investiture.
  10. The ability to easily hear Brandon's inflections are the biggest thing for me so far. Much more interesting to be able to hear the Brandon himself say what you are reading,.
  11. Read part 2 in the OB spoilers board, if you read OB spoilers. I think that they could be corrupted (seeing as how Odium can corrupt Spren), making desolations worse.
  12. She doesn't reclaim the Light as she did with her illusions earlier in the scene and she stops chasing the creature for a second. I've seen a theory that the pictures in her notebook used to be the pictures of the ones that were cast. If youre right that she casted them then that scene could have been written a lot less confusingly while still implying that she did it to stop her self for some reason. Why would that even be, though. I dont really see a very good reason for her having cast those, even taking her mental illness into account. edit: Also, her going into a battle stance seems like an action of surprise to me It also seems suspicious to me that Pattern told her that he didn't see it, even though it seemed to be present for awhile and she chased it for a sec. Feels to me like hes avoiding he issue.
  13. Intro This theory is very much so a part 2 to my The Greater Power of the Knights Radiant, so check that out if you already haven't. It is kinda necessary to understand this theory Corrupted Radiants Something that caught me completely off guard in chapter was when the creature Shallan runs into cast illusions at her. Read the below passage. I know that many people believe this being to be one of the ten deaths, but we havent seen the ten deaths directly use to surges as of yet, and we dont really have any suggestion that they can. I also dont think it is an unamade: as people have pointed out, this seems a tad too week to be one of them. The fact that this being was able to manipulate illumination is very suspicious to me, how ever. I propose this: that being was a corrupted Lightweaver shade. The copy-cat mechanic is awfully similar to how Shallan has to draw a picture before she can cast an illusion, and this thing was literally described as a Shadow. This being also seemingly interacted with Shallan's notebook as of chapter 27, i know that people believe that she did those drawings but I find it suspicious that they only appeared after she came into contact with this thing. It also fits with why Radiants dying would make the desolations worse, as @Calderis mentioned on the Discord. More supporting evidence is the blurb for Oathbringer that is quite old now. Read it below: I don't see how one of the ten deaths is a "dark secret", if the creature is being talked about here (which i suspect it is, were almost at the end of part one). Implications If this creature is a corrupted Lightweaver shade and my Greater Power theory is correct, I suspect that this ability is what the Epigraphs have described, read the below epigraph with this theory in mind: I would say that going to Braize (I suspect the author somehow escapes before being corrupted) would be a pretty bad experience, one that would probably convince others that you are dead and would probably result in things worse than death. Conclusion If you guys see any holes in the theory or want to comment, post away! If you read this and you're confused about some of the assumptions I'm making, check out the above theory I linked.
  14. It's been a pleasure. I'm probably going to be using this as much as anybody so might as well help get it to where it needs to be
  15. I think that tthis affect may cause Desolations, as Nale explains in the titular quote. If it was just that they go to Braize I would agree, but this whole 'greater power will be naturally discovered and cause a Desolation' thing convinces me when attached to the theory.
  16. Maybe something like "topiaryspren" or something following that idea. It seems like they related to Cultivation and a comparison was made on the Discord by someone that breaking something down to an end of your own seems like a gardener clipping bushes or a farmer using pesticides. I also heavily support the Keenspren theory.
  17. Good points all around. I'm more convinced of something happening to the Radiants after they die, this is just the least crackpot explaination. Others I've thought of include the Shard plate being involved in them becoming CS, them becoming something less like a normal CR and something more corrupted, etc. Thanks for the detailed response!
  18. Intro The topic of discussion I have been ok’ed to present for you all has long been a crackpot theory within the community. Within the pre-Oathbringer buzz I wish to compile some new evidence in favor of this long-held idea that the forum hasn't seen much discussion on. Share your guy’s opinions below and enjoy! Part One: Knights Radiant Become Cognitive Shadows After Death At the recent GenCon event, a fellow Sharder managed to get this piece of interesting information out of Brandon: This assumes that this is true for other Shards, which I see as a likely scenario. The hypothetical Shard is Tenacity, but I don't see why that Shard being Splintered would cause magic users any more advantage than was already present, unless this is a rule that is generally true for Shards. A possible example of this rule in effect is Threnody, a Shardworld affected by Ambition’s partial Splintering in that region. As detailed above, a Radiant's souls are infused with Investiture, particularly full-blown Radiants. In the Arcanum Unbounded quote below, we learn that this is a prerequisite to becoming a Cognitive Shadow. It makes Realmatic sense that when power is Splintered from its Shard it becomes easier to take up and control without the Will of a Vessel. Brandon has said to a Shard’s Splintering often creates, well, Splinters of power. One specific case he mentions, the Stormfather, is kind of an example of exactly what I propose, just on a bit higher of a power-level. I theorize that the allusion he makes in that FAQ Friday to sapient beings being involved is a nod to the hypothetical phenomenon I propose. I believe that Nalan's reasoning for what he does, as presented in Edgedancer, relates to this idea. Considering that Nalan highlights that this is something that Honor was able to regulate in the past, his explanation seems connected to the WoB from Gen Con. If this is the case, it seems as if this idea is heavily represented by the Story of Fleet. The whole theme of rising up after death seems more than just metaphor with this in mind. It has been pointed out to me that Brandon has said that the Recreance took place before Honor was Shattered, but I would like to point out that Brandon has said that Splinterings are a slow burn. If this is the case, this matches up with my thoughts on what is happening on Threnody, as we know that Ambition was not fully Splintered until he was out of the Threnodite system. Part Two: These Radiant Are Forced Into Braize I theorize that, like the Heralds, these Radiants are possibly forced to go to Braize. As it is an old Vorin philosophy that strong warriors aid the Heralds in their fights, it makes sense that this is a romanticised version of the theoretical truth that developed in the Era of Solitude. Khriss notes in the Roshar Essay that she believes there are a population of Cognitive Shadows on Braize, and I think that these are the Radiants I theorize to have become Cognitive Shadows. In this context, it makes sense to me that this may be why the Recreance came to be. Ishar (see the quote from Nalan above, as Ishar seems to be the propagator of this idea) must have told them that this would happen now that Honor isn't around to control these pieces of Investiture, and that it may somehow affect the Desolation cycle. The biggest argument against this theory in the past has been that people don't believe that the Radiants would abandon their oaths, but it would make sense for them to do so to prevent affecting the desolation cycle in some way. Extra Tidbits/Connections With this in mind, I believe that a few obscure passages from the books make quite a bit more sense. For example, the Deathrattle quoted below makes a lot of sense if viewed from the perspective of a Voidbringer who is involved in an assault on Uritheru. Taln may have also seen the results of these Radiants theoretically being trapped on Braize, if my theory is to be believed: This idea also gives interesting hypothetical context to the below deathrattle: As has been revealed by Brandon, Vasher decided to take the name ‘Zahel’ while on Roshar. I tentatively propose that this may relate to his being a Cognitive Shadow, knowing that Brandon has confirmed that the above name and the word ‘Nahel’ share the same suffix. Just read the below epigraph with this idea in mind. I could go on, but I’m interested with what all of you have to say. Let me know what you guys think
  19. Get hyped guys! The new system is awesome. I also second Argent there. The babies always screech when you least expect them.
  20. Maybe the drawings are things that are tied to the murders that are being copied. Adolin had just had his horse killed before he went over the edge and killed Sadeas, and that the only connection to the horse drawing that I can see. The death of his horse may have pushed Adolin's mental state towards murder, and Shallan describes the Void as a long corridor, like the ones in Sebarials camp where the woman was killed.
  21. Intro A new WoB was just recenly posted on the forums and I wanted to write up my thoughts on it, including a theory that has been in my head for a while. Let me know what you guys think! New WoB A sharder ( @Bugsy6912) recently posted on the 17th Shard Discord a WoB that he had gotten. Read it below: Analysis+Theory This is a super interesting Realmatics question. We dont really have much information on how time works in the Spiritual Realm or the Cognitive realm, so this answer was unexpected. One magic system that I believe does touch on how time works in other Realms is Allomancy. Obviously metals like Electrum and Atium interact with time on different realms, but so does Gold and Malatium. The passages we've seen with allomancers burning gold have been very interesting. I've started seeing interesting patterns between these scenes with some characters in Stormlight. Read the below Miles quote: Now compare that to the below Shallan and Kaladin passages: In the first two you can notice a distinct similarity in the prose and syntax used in both quotes. There is a kind of "self labeling" going on between both people, but one is burning gold and the other isnt. I think that this is because the fundamentals of gold may function based on the fundamentals that the above WoB hints at, time interacting with investiture, and that this is why we see Kaladin, an invested being, having his Cognitive filter possibly being distorted by investiture. Gold also definitely seems to work this way. My theoy is that the Connections that are snapped into one's Spiritual aspect allow for a kind of meshing, caused by the extra investiture, between one's Spiritual aspect, Cogntive aspect, and how the two are affected by this dilation from the investiture. End This is super heavy crackpot, and not very edited as this WoB was posted just ealier today, but I think it Connects some of my ideas on how the Cosmere works. Let me know what holes you guy see in it and what your opinions are!
