  1. Pewter Burn is 2x Strength, Pewter Flare is 3x, and they can't lift a car. We do not have something this succinct about Stormlight, so it's a bit of a toss-up until we get more definitive examples of Stormlight Strength in the books. Duralumin is even less clearly defined, because it depends on a variable: How much Pewter you have. If you only have 2 minutes worth of Pewter, it'll burn all of that and give 2 minutes worth of strength all at once because that's what Duralumin does. If you've got a half-hour's worth...
  2. From your prior post: While it may be the side effect, this is exactly what Lerasium does. Thus, all Nahel Spren are like Lerasium in this regard. Burning Lerasium increases your connection to Preservation, making you Mistborn in the process (or a stronger one if you were already a Mistborn) Bonding Nahel Spren increases your connection to H/C, making you a Surgebinder in the process Becoming Mistborn is a side effect of increasing the connection to Preservation, which is a side effect of Burning Lerasium(IIRC, the main effect is an Allomantic power, like what Atium's got) Becoming Mistborn via Lerasium is a side effect of a side effect, and not really part of the discussion for that reason Stormlight is a Mists analogue though, lacking the "filter" that a Focus provides The "running out or fuel" for a Focus is a non-equivalent comparison. Commands, the Focus on Nalthis, don't run out of power like Metals do.
  3. He can't have done, because that would undermine the "he tried and failed to awaken using Stormlight" WoB if he could just turn the Stormlight into Breath
  4. Brandon has described it more along the lines of "they got separated on Roshar," but I won't discount your idea altogether. He doesn't need to figure this out. All he needs is Investiture to survive, and Stormlight is more plentiful than Breath. I'd consider Returned as similar to Nightblood, where food is food, regardless of what form it takes. Not technically true. Honorblades are the most notable exceptions to this rule, and Vasher is smart enough to find a workaround if one existed
  5. What you just said is either 1) The "Type of Spren" is the Focus, or 2) Nothing mentioned in your statement is the Focus. Stormlight is out because it powers said abilities. Preservation technically powers your Allomantic abilities, not the Metal. Spren on it's own gives you the connection to power(Like Lerasium does, and Lerasium isn't the Focus) The Type of Spren equates to the Type of Metal, which is a Focus and they both determine what power(s) you get That is all you mentioned, and exactly what it implies. Thus, Calderis's statement is still more or less correct: "Your description places the Spren as the focus as they are the determining factor for the power."
  6. All Nahel Spren (Possibly excluding Godspren for Bondsmiths) are a mix of Cultivation and Honor's Investiture. In Syl's case, Honorspren are say.. 90%Honor, 10%Cultivation(not actual numbers, just an example) and Wyndle is near the opposite of that, and the rest are somewhere in the middle. I have no ideas on the abstract/nature thing, but Spren aren't my area of expertise.
  7. Oh I'm well aware of that (which is partially why the 1st Spike Question doesn't involve it) I just had thoughts, and put them on here in case someone had answers that I've never seen, and/or for discussion value. 9 More Today: 1 Awakening and 8 Feruchemy. Spare time is dangerous stuff... Awakening Lifeless normally don't talk or write, but if one could speak, would it be able to awaken if it were given Breath? Feruchemy There's an old WoB that a Platypus could store its (electric-field sense?) in a Tinmind. Are there any "unique" senses that your non-human races(Parshendi/Kandra/etc..) could store that Humans couldn't? Are the senses that a Tin Ferring can store limited by what society cognitively perceives as a sense? Ex: Just "Sight" vs "Brightness(Rods)" & "Color(Cones)"? Clarification/Followup: If say.. Nociception(Pain Sense) isn't cognitively viewed as a sense b/c science hasn't discovered it yet, would that prevent a Ferring from being able to store it or does the ability always exist even if knows they can? Would a hearing impaired person store less Hearing than someone who can hear clearly? (Like a sick person storing health) Would the same hold true for someone with glasses storing Sight compared to someone with 20/20 vision? Could a deaf/blind person store any Hearing/Sight at all? (I assume "No," but don't remember any express confirmation) Is there a noticeable difference between Sight stored by a colorblind person and Sight stored by someone who can see color? If they swapped Tinminds after storing, would the colorblind person see in color / the normal person see in grayscale when tapping? Is there a noticeable difference between Hearing stored by someone with Perfect Pitch(2nd Heightening) and Hearing stored by an average person?
  8. Given the inverse relation, I would go so far as to say that he pays for his intelligence with his compassion and vice-versa. He sells his soul compassion in order to gain intelligence, and does the opposite to gain it back. Probability curve or not, Brandon has written it in a way that allows me to compare it to a seesaw, and that's fun
  9. You can ask him yourself. He has a page or two deliberating that very point after ..(Mrall?) shows him the chart in WoR. (Maybe not that exact point, but there's a definite "lower sections of the pyramid are bigger" esque vibe to it)
  10. Medallion discussions. Which are MB Spoiler so I wont discuss it here.
  11. You aren't the first. I've had to do that before as well. I swear it's just as bad as "unkeyed" and "unsealed" sometimes...
  12. Are you referring to the Well of Ascension? (I don't remember this scene from SH, but I only read it once) Anyway if it is the Well, they could be trying to free Ruin like Vin did in WoA. To do that they would have to ascend, and to ascend they would have to remove their spikes, which would kill them on the spot and render the pursuit "meaningless."
  13. Upvote for having more self-control, and common sense, than the Disney Reboot of Star Wars did
  14. I'm going to object to the semantics of this, mostly because I don't like the phrase "tapping a negative amount," and I don't think Brandon would consider storing as "tapping a negative amount" off the top of his head for a question like this. Dodging the question by saying that "a smart day is similar to tapping Zinc" sure, but pulling "Add negative 2" on the definition of an existing term in both the Cosmere and the English language? I personally see it as him saying that the effects of tapping Zinc and the effect on Taravangian's Intellect are similar, but not exactly the same. Due to the fact that I define the effect of tapping Zinc as increasing mental speed, I think the Diagram was made on a "good day," whether or not Brandon dodged directly stating that in his answer.
  15. That, like the "Taravangian's Agent" idea, depends on who you define as a main character, give that "none of the main characters know what happened" Taln gets a book, so he's automatically main character status, while Hoid is up for debate. Unless Brandon means main characters at the current point in time.... ambiguity
  16. There was a thread all about that a couple months back (I was half-right, it's "how" not who)
  17. Given that they are Splinters of Odium per WoB, he splintered on purpose, or at least he made use of them if someone partially splintered him a bit (not sure if another Shard can do that..) (Do you have a source on the Voidspren being his Splinters? All I've seen is that the Unmade were, and they seem a bit beyond normal Spren.) Also, Warbreaker Spoilers And ninja'd by Spool (by 5 seconds no less...
  18. So I got 8 more (4 Questions, 4.5 Followups) while I was in Wal-Mart this morning, addendums to my Hemalurgy and Lord Ruler Questionnaires. The Lord Ruler When the Lord Ruler remade himself into an Allomancer, did he make himself as strong as he could physically become, or only as strong as The Well could make him? Worded Better: Could TLR have used some other method to become even more powerful in Allomancy than he already was using the Well? If so, what methods could be used to do this? Did TLR know any of these methods? Did TLR use any of these methods? Hemalurgy Would Hemalurgic Spikes prevent a person from ascending via the "Lerasium Savant" method? Would the spikes cause any complications? Such as: needing more Lerasium, spikes cause pain to the person, etc... If Vin's earring had been a Lerasium Spike instead of Brass(Bronze?), would she still have felt it causing her pain when she stood in the Well of Ascension? Would a Lerasium Spike prevent a person from drawing on the Mists the way normal spikes do to Vin? You could follow-up with "would it prevent someone from using The Well to ascend," but I think it'll be the same answer(Liquid/Gaseous form of Preservation's Investiture should function the same way)
  19. Has this post been transformed into "The Limits of Compounding" ? Because I could provide a shorthand version of the notepad with my speculations on that (rather than make a separate post like I should've done a year ago..)
  20. Infinity Blade Spoilers (Never imagined I would type that)
  21. I mixed up unkeyed and unsealed again, didn't I?
  22. Ok, that one's my error for equating the two since there doesn't seem to be any other way of making unkeyed Metalminds that we know of except for the Medallions. (And the fact that I've used the words a bit interchangeably for this reason. guess it's a bad habit to do that)
  23. I know of exactly 3 total things pertaining to it that are not RAFO's. 1) A paraphased "he uses Feruchemy" to find out when/where he needs to be 2) A more recent, and verbatim entry saying it's the "underlying mechanic, and not necessarily Feruchemy" 3) He has Southern Scadrian Medallions 4) His prescience existed before the Mistborn books did, chronologically. And Chromium wasn't even discovered as an Allomantic metal until after the ascension of Harmony 1 is for it, but is overwritten by 2 since it is more recent and verbatim. 2 is more neutral, not really yes or no. 3 and 4 would imply no, since a Fullborn has no need of medallions and his power predates knowledge of the Feruchemical one. It's an implied yes, a neutral, and two implied no's If you have some WoB that implies it better, please link to it so I can read it. Hoid is hardly my area of expertise
  24. Points in your Favor: You don't contradict the fact that Tanavast actually died to Odium's attack Tanavast is still around(somewhat), so he could still have a plan/long con Brandon has called Splintering a "smaller scale Shattering," so pieces with different Intents isn't too far-fetched Both Tanavast and the Nightform Parshendi have spoken of a "challenged champion" Potential Problems/Contradictions: Becoming a Sliver doesn't automatically make you immortal Your connections can change, especially over a vast amount of years Taln couldn't really guard the chosen one while enduring millennia in Braize, and the other 9 jumped ship. Brandon has said that we've seen all the non-Worldhopper secret Societies on Roshar already We've speculated that the Heralds gave up b/c they didn't have an endgame, so they wouldn't know about this plan (if we're right) My Thoughts and Opinions: Honor knows at least one method to circumvent a lack of immortality(The Heralds) Yet another Secret Society? (And one almost giving me Order of Mata Nui vibes, no less...) So.. Sons of Honor perhaps? They are the ones who want Odium to "be committed again," as it were. Are you implying that Odium is the one who left Threnody for the kill of Ambition? The Heralds could've been kept in the dark so they can't reveal the plan if tortured. All in all, it's a great theory. Biggest issue is potential changing connections over the millennia
  25. Everything functions within all three realms. The earring is Cognitively perceived as "inside her" by herself and anyone who looks at it. Physical Contact, A Cognitive(and somewhat Physical) perception of inside the body, forming the Spiritual Connection that allows the Spike to work.
