  1. See I would reference something but unfortunately I cannot (read not allowed to as per forum rules). So instead of referencing that, I will ask you this. Which is more appealing to a scientist: Asking second hand experience in order to test a hypothesis? or Testing said hypothesis personally or in a controlled environment with materials at hand so you can repeat the test as needed? Sounds like to me Khriss would much rather go through the trouble of attaining a medallion with Allomantic steel and Feruchemical iron if it meant she could set up a lab and test her theories as often and as varied as she wanted, instead of having to rely on second hand answers taken off the cuff.
  2. So let me get this straight. Nazh fights with a leecher to get a map, some how finds Jasnah's trunk under fathoms of water, impersonates an ardent just to be able to draw bridge 4, but finding a medallion or even making one when each individual source (iron feruchemy, steel allomancy) is readily available is too difficult?
  3. Deep sea fishermen and sailors for oceanic trade would disagree with you
  4. Are we seriously arguing over the "correct" reason why flying is faster than running?
  5. The earth below the water affects the water. So all those volcanoes and earthquakes you mentioned for land, apply for water. You get tsunamis, new islands, etc. So the water isn't actually quite static.
  6. Because of the oath pact which created the heralds to begin with. The heralds were created to fight the desolations. The knights radiant came later when they learned from the heralds. Storms its in their names, they herald the coming of a desolation and come to help people survive it.
  7. Lol Marasi herself pointed out that the greatest advantage of flight is going in a straight line. That the escape pod travels slower than a train, but not having to worry about what is between those two points is a huge advantage. But that comes down to semantics/personal opinion.
  8. But combine that quote with Stormfathers quote and it shows the entire process is new, Everstorm and the Everstorm bringing the voidspren. The old design is its purpose, which is to transform the parshendi. But the storm itself is new.
  9. That's how their airships work. Iron feruchemy to lighten the ship, steel allomancy to push the blades to get them to work. That's why Allik needed Wax to charge the primer cube
  10. I took that WoB as to say it can be hard or impossible to lie. As in for some spren it is hard, for others it is impossible. Problems does not mean all cannot at all.
  11. So if I understand what you both are saying, then what happens when one body of water meets another? A river flowing into a sea? What happens when the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean Sea, and when the Caribbean Sea meets The Atlantic Ocean? We delineate them on maps, so they are separate in our minds. Not stating this to say you guys are wrong. I am asking based on your theory, what you think happens at those locations. I am genuinely curious to learn more. Are there spaces between the solid chunks? Is there a change in color? Is one larger? Like is the Gulf of Mexico a large hill while the Atlantic ocean becomes a mountain?
  12. Ironically the scene you reference disproves what you state regarding Cryptics. It is challenging for a spren to act outside their nature, but it is possible. The scene you reference where Pattern lies is below: Words of Radiance page 255 "I... Well, it's mostly a figure of speech." Then, before he could ask further, she continued, "And by that I mean something we say to convey an idea or a feeling, but not a literal fact." Pattern buzzed. "What does that mean?" Shallan asked, massaging the knobweed in anyway. "When you buzz like that. What are you feeling?" "Hmmmm.... Excited. Yes. It has been so long since anyone has learned of you and your kind." Shallan squeezed some more sap onto her toes. "You came to learn? Wait... you're a scholar?" "Of course. Hmmmm. Why else would I come? I will learn so much before-" He stopped abruptly. "Pattern?" she asked. "Before what?" "A figure of speech." He said it perfectly flatly, absent of tone. he was growing better and better at speaking like a person, and at times he sounded just like one. But now all of the color had gone from his voice. "You're lying," she accused him, glancing at his pattern on the wall. He had shrunk, growing as small as a fist, half his usual size. "yes," he said reluctantly "You're a terrible liar" Shallan said, surprised at the realization. "Yes." "But you love lies!" "So fascinating" he said "you are all so fascinating" So they love lies because as a light casts a shadow, it is the other half of truth. They are scholars. They wish to learn and study more of which they do not know or understand. They are curious how lies can become truths, and truths can become lies. Why would Pattern be so terrible at lying, why would he not understand what lying even is (as he needs to have a figure of speech, and jokes explained to him, and even calls those lies as well) if that was the entire make up of what he is?
  13. Skaze are the opposite of Seons in appearance. Seons emit light, Skaze act like a blackholeish as in they absorb light. So you would not see the moon if it was a skaze. That would be a different matter if it was a seon.
  14. The other thing is I think we are getting too caught up with the literal definition of a lie. Shallan views herself as a strong assertive woman like Jasnah when she needs to take over the caravan and then take over the bandits. Bluth (i think that's his name, I am blanking now) is shown how he could have been and it drives him to be a better person and fight to protect innocents. Pattern calls those lies. But all they are is how a person perceives themselves and how others perceive them. It is a lie that becomes a truth when they chose to believe it and make it a reality. There is honor in believing in people and encouraging them to be more than they think they are. That is how I interpreted the whole lie/cryptic deal. Yes lying to hurt or take advantage of someone is wrong. But I do not believe what Shallan and Pattern are doing is lying in that regard.
  15. Phasing. The reason flying gets you places faster is you don't have to go around buildings, just fly over them. Same stands for phasing. Just run in a straight line passing through all obstacles like they aren't there.
  16. There was another thread with the same premise. In that post I checked and quoted the scene. Ym was out of stormlight. You cannot heal without it. Your body has a certain amount of time before you become brain dead enough that your soul departs and healing of any sort won't bring you back.
  17. I do believe it has been stated that the cut of the stone affects how well it holds stormlight and for how long
  18. Again if I recall correctly, so there may be holes in what I write, everything, and that includes your desk, chair, person, plant, etc has a physical, cognitive, and spiritual aspect. Your investiture or power flows from the spiritual realm. The physical is what we see in the "real" world. The cognitive deals in how we see our selves and how we are seen, and the spiritual has to deal with our soul (i think). So not sure how particles and matter could be applied to that aspect.
  19. I believe it applies to both as we have seen with Vasher and Hoid. Vasher is the case you propose where he uses stormlight to fuel his returned life, while Hoid who is not native to these planets seem to be able to visit them, and figure out ways to hack them to use them elsewhere.
  20. So from what I recall, the way lerasium works is it re-writes your spiritual DNA to make you a mistborn. That is why that is then passed on to your children. However we also know that making a normal person a mistborn, or if alloyed a misting is only one aspect of what lerasium can do. It can do something else. What that is, we do not yet know.
  21. but dustbringer isn't their actual name. That is their nickname given by people who judge them harshly and they resented the similarity to voidbringer. Their actual name or more specifically what they called themselves are the Releasers. So through division they are releasing the bonds of what they target, thus dividing it. We also see the affect of their surges in the beginning of Way of kings. They seem to burn even rock.
  22. So I think there is a third option. This is how I break down the WoB. Question Can anyone other than a Parshendi bond a voidspren? Like, can a human bond a voidspren? Brandon Sanderson That is theoretically possible but humans are not good at bonding spren in the same way. So we know the reason spren started bonding humans was they got something additional out of the deal. I do not recall if it was confirmed, but the implication was sapience. If the way the parshendi access the forms is a hint at how they gain voidforms, then it appears to be not a bond in the sense of two parties working together, but a symbiotic assimilation where they combine into one entity. True Eshonai needed the right frame of mind when she sang the song to attract the spren that turned her into stormform (not saying it is a voidform, just extrapolating on the process of combining with a spren), but there did not appear to me any oaths that were stated or had to be up kept. The transformation altered her at a physical and fundamental level. It was not a code she had to uphold, it was a frame of mind that she was transformed into. So I took that WoB meaning it is hard for humans to be of the same state as parshendi (if i recall they are closer to the cognitive realm or something than humans?), to combine and assimilate with a spren to become a voidbinder like they can. Again, this is my own interpretation. I am not saying this to say your theory is wrong or disagree with you. Just my two cents that may add to the discussion.
  23. Do we even have a "date" or time zero for the shattering itself? Although we have absolutely no evidence to support your theory (not saying that to detract or deride, just stating what is), I do like the sound of it. It would be quite the misdirection and would allow us to as it is explained to learn more about how shards affect their vessels. I kinda hope that is how it turns out. upvote
  24. Exactly. So by extension, it shouldn't be assumed that if he has any ability from darkside, that it would have to be paltry due to the mixed blood. to clarify, just because he has dayside blood, does not mean if he has darkside magic it has to be the lowest tier. We do not have a vector to judge strength for darkside magic, nor a definitive inclination that such would be the result of his mixed blood.
  25. Trell is a random mason that was upset that his fellow coworkers were trapped under a building and might die. Kenton saved their lives. There is WoB I believe that it wasn't a coincidence but at this time we just do not know. Also there was not a unique metal mentioned in white sand the prose version. There is terken, which is a sandling carapace, but otherwise nothing else is of note as "unique". Though again, there isn't conclusive evidence saying it has to be autonomy. There is a debate over that identity all over the boards.
