Lol yeah, i just reached that part last night. whoops lol

So new piece of info I picked up while reading that may help various theories. So for those that believe it is concerning the river/water, then the deep sand is probably ruled out and same thing visa versa. Basically in the novel, Kenton comments to himself how the Dorim vines rise to the surface for sun, and then retreat under ground so they do not dry out. They are the reason there are no deep sandlings as the vines criss cross every 10 feet or so. The vines do not exist in the deep sand however, because they need to stretch down to the rocks below to reach the water. The deep sand is too deep for them to do this as they cannot survive in areas where this distance is too great.

Here is a question, that I cannot recall if was answered in the book. As I read, Kenton remarks how the conference center which is mushroom shaped, used to have another use and hasn't been used in that way for centuries. He also remarks that now that the mastrells were dead perhaps it would be used that way again. But does not state what use that was.

Again, you are assuming that in the time between white sand and mistborn, that there could not be another means of entering the cognitive realm without relying on a perpendicularity. And it could also be on the moon. Just throwing it out there because it popped in my head since it is just as present as the sun, and is used to tell time. edit: my point is not the definitively say it is the sun. Just that we do not have enough information to definitively rule it out
-
Eh, I dunno, just because there isn't a clear glowing line for all to see connecting the two, doesn't mean it isn't there. But I do realize that is more my own opinion, than anything I can concretely back up. Well from what I recall (though I am re-reading it now), the only world hopper we know of on Taldain is Hoid, and as you said, we have no idea the level of options he has access to to get around.

During my re-read, there are multiple rivers on Dayside. Khriss just commented on the first she saw, but another river flows into that river from another range I was basing that statement on me recalling how Luthadel had the most time without mist, and how it seemed to coalesce and get thick around that center as if it was being pulled towards the well. Upon looking deeper into the books, it could be stated that it was because Luthadel was at the equator (if i recall correctly), and thereby got more daylight than the surrounding area and could last longer, and also the mist ultimately was drawn towards it because Vin was there to pull it in. I do not believe that still precludes it, but again I admit it also does not prove it. Do we know for a fact they are separate? One may not flow from the other, but do we have WoB or proof they are completely unrelated? Just because it would be difficult to use a perpendicularity to shift over, instead of space travel, does not mean it cannot be there. Just that it is difficult.

Well excess alcohol consumption can cause dehydration. Alcohol decreases the body's production of anti-diuretic homone, which is used by the body to reabsorb water. With less anti-diuretic hormone available, your body loses more fluid than normal through increased urination. So the way I see it, drinking liquor makes it harder to hydrate your body which is your main source of your power. Then being drunk also hinders your ability to watch how much you master, which will cause the possibility of overmastering and could lead to death. Remember kids, don't drink and master.

So little point I noticed, unlike allomancy where if you stand in the way of a steel/iron line it does not affect the push or pull at all, with sand mastery if you run your hand (without terken) through the stream it can be disruptive/distracting to the sand master (Khriss curious, passed her hand through the stream, and Kenton asked her not to do it as it is distracting). So the sand does need some cohesion, or steady stream to function or it becomes difficult to hold it all together. Also passing the hand through the stream knocked some particles of sand out turning it black. edit: hopefully this registers as I have been doubling posting a lot with new info, so trying not to go crazy with it, but found new information about the digestive habits of the sandlings. it seems when sandlings eat sand (bone white), it comes out crystalline. The whiteness is then returned as the sand recharges in the sun. Kenton himself never understood the difference between sandlings turning the sand clear, and water turning it black.
-
New post with new info: Page 289 "never mind, I'm coming back up!" Kenton called, reaching for his sand pouch. He paused, however. Powerful sand masters didn't need to be touching sand to call it to life. It was one of the abilities Kenton had always wished he possessed.

Well I have a lot more reading to do (still in the beginning of my re-read), but the radiance of the sun could act like the mists/highstorms and the sun be the pool. Vin, Kelsier, and Wax all feel a connection to the mists or feel its presence, and the mists do originate from the well of ascension. Highstorms come from the origin, and at least Kaladin feels a connection to the storms. Although he is a windrunner so it would make sense for him to feel an affinity towards storms. I do not think what we know so far is enough to rule out the sun, but I also admit what I provided is not conclusive either. It is just the direction I am leaning.
-
I am re-reading White Sand, and as I do I am leaning towards the sun. Daysider's instinctively know when it "feels" like in the right place in the sky, to know east from west and not get lost. They all also feel a "spiritual" connection to it and always "feel" its presence. Even Khriss when she first experiences it, feels a sense of presence to it.

Maybe she was never able to stop Scythe, and now he rules darkside. As she is a duchess, and was in a position of power, he would have sought to remove her. So her exile could be in preservation of her own life. She ran.
-
No worries. Basically I am re-reading it as we speak, so anything that perks up in my mind I have been throwing up on the forum to see if it has any meaning, or more info could be extrapolated from it. For instance I realized Dayside uses decimal time, but after looking around online, it doesn't seem to be of any note other than an alternative way to tell the time / separate the day. edit: which actually reminded me. the deep sand terkin sandling in the beginning of the prose novel doesn't have a mouth. So that may affect what we thought of the ecology, and how it gains sustenance. edit 2: then again it states "Its head- if that was the right term- was little more than a box with deep black spots instead of eyes, with no visible mouth." so just because the mouth was not visible and was not used in the attack, does not preclude he has no mouth at all. hmmmm

Regarding thinking it is the film, Kenton specifically states the sand is turned into water. He wouldn't state that if there was sand left over after it was done. I can quote the scene if you would like.
-
So in that scene, he drops sand that he already touched and mastered, that he sends to the ground. When it hits the ground, he uses his sand to gather mass from the surrounding sand to send it up and catch him. Also there is a scene where Praxton summons sand to himself from a distance. To clarify when I state distance I mean without touching/holding sand in his hands (just started rereading so looking forward to what I will discover as I go through it again). The quotes are below: White Sand Page 12 With an explosion of light, the sand changed from bone white to shimmering mother of pearl. Kenton opened his hand as he fell, commanding the sand to move. It shot forward, forming into a ribbon of light that extended from his palm toward the quickly approaching dunes below. When the sand had reached the ground, he commanded it to gather mass from the dunes below and move back up. A second later there was a shimmering line of mastered sand extending from Kenton to the ground. He was still falling, but as he commanded the sand to push, his descent slowed. White Sand Page 16 Eventually, Praxton raised his hands, summoning a dozen strings of sand from the floor below

Just a little nitpick. Batman does directly wield political/social power and uses it. Just that is when he is Bruce Wayne the head of a multi billion dollar company.
-
I did a word search for both his first name, last name and both combined and that seems to be the only place he is mentioned. I did do a search for Drile, and it popped up quite a few times about him trying to arrange selling the sand masters out to mercenaries as guards and such. So perhaps his father has some pull there. But otherwise it looks like that was the only mention of him and had been seeded for later books. Perhaps the father seeking revenge on Kenton?

Could you provide the link to the thread? I preordered my copy, but it is the base edition from what I can see and personally if I am going to buy one, I would rather the deluxe.
-
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, but I think that this is one of the times we have to just say "magic". I mean reducing or increasing your muscle mass (pewter), causing yourself to hyperventilate or highly oxygenating your blood (cadmium), reducing your body temperature or increasing it(bronze) are all actions that normally could cause quite a bit of damage to the human body. Yet a feruchemist can do it without harm (baring going zero which I do not recall based on theories if it is even possible to do so, and even if you can I believe it will kill you).
-
Your whole body is always in motion. Your blood cells pumping, your heart beating, your lungs expanding and contracting, your last meal causing peristalsis in your intestinal tract. We are all moving thousands of miles an hour hurtling through space on the planet earth. Motion is relative. Sitting still is storing potential speed energy. Otherwise how would you store weight by sitting? How do you store identity? Connection? Do you have to actively being thinking "I am me" or actively thinking "Hey I am thinking of my mother today who I have a connection with".
-
My point natc, was if speed required the feruchemist to move in order to store that attribute as IndigoAjah posited, then the same would have to stand for the other attributes. In order to store strength, you would have to actively be lifting something for instance. When we get attributes like weight, or sight it becomes problematic because how do you specify what is actively using your weight? Or actively using your senses? Is base line enough? Would closing your eyes prevent you from storing or are you technically still "seeing" your eye lids so you can still store? That is why I agree with the others that you do not have to actively move to store speed. It would cause too many other problems that we have not seen any mention of in the books. And of course there is the scene already mentioned where Sazed was locked up. I was just expanding on that.
-
Well also consider, based on your premise, wouldn't a feruchemist have to do weight lifting to store strength for their arms? Squats to store strength for their legs? How would you store sight? Would you need to glare/squint the entire time? Hearing? Weight? If you have to be actively using something in order to store it, it becomes problematic for other attributes.

Which is why you can see plenty of other quotes that cite his entire history as well as explain the pressure of the push increases as the bullet gets closer which demonstrates the mechanic. As I have said twice now, it is not a hard defined plane that causes the "deflection". It is the equivalency of person A trying to shove person B over onto their back. If person B squares their feet, and directs person A's shove to the side, they remain standing. But if multiple people push from multiple directions in varying types of strength, person B will be pushed over. But I shouldn't even have to explain further. Numerous quotes I posted say it all. Over his entire career (that includes out in the Roughs, and anywhere else he has gone), he has been shot despite the speed bubble. But once again I have a feeling what I have shown in references to the source material has fallen on deaf ears. I have made my case. I am good.

Which quite a few people share your thoughts. It is in the thread asking why is feruchemical steel broken. Some of the responses pointed out that bleeder is a kandra, so was not subject to a lot of the limitations inherent to steel. Also others have posited that she might have been compounding to have as much as she did.

Because they depend on the existence of the source of said supernatural abilities why natural arise and continue on their own?
