I think one of the other roles Moiraine played was that of a sort of spiritual balm. The world is all going to hell; the Dark One is all but free; people who you think can be trusted can't be; you are forced into alliances with your enemies just to stand a chance; and so on. To find out that the one person who believed in you throughout the entire adventure from leaving your home to saving the world did not die, but has instead returned to help you when you are preparing yourself for the end, and your apparent death. I think that is what Moiraine's important role was. To remind Rand that he wasn't going to fight for his death, but rather he was fighting for life.

why is there a big lake in the mountains of mist?
Bort replied to king of nowhere's topic in The Wheel of Time
It's the Dark One's Shardpool. -
Alas, I am limited to upvoting your response only once. Thank you for this peace of mind, lol. I guess that yes, this is what I was thinking of whenever I saw that name. Still, Thaidakar seems to be a pretty long and ostentatious name for the Stormlight Archive. I wonder if this was another name where Sanderson was influenced by the Wheel of Time.
-
So, out of the first 4 voters, 2 of them would take up Hatred. Slightly disturbing, I feel.
-
Is that last one a Chull?
-
I would take up Cultivation. Also, you should take Harmony off the list, as he holds two Shards, not one.

One name I thought was from Wheel of Time, but turns out isn't, is Thaidakar. When I saw that name in WoK, I really thought I recognised it from somewhere, and for some reason, my mind connected it to Wheel of Time. Even to this day, I still occasionally Google Thaidakar to try to find the connection between WoK and WoT (excluding Brandon taking over the series).

Shardplate For Horses? Any Old Horse+Shardsaddle= Instant Ryshadium
Bort replied to Atkion's topic in Stormlight Archive
A Ryshadium, wearing its own Shardplate, bearing a (full) Shardbearer rider... That's like an army unto itself. Or two. -
In The Final Empire, when Kelsier is training Vin, this is one of the tricks he uses. She drops a coin and pushes off it. He pushes the coin away before she can get any real height. I believe it also happens again when she is fighting allomancers at the beginning of Hero of Ages.

Nice plan Luckat. Some slight risk involved, but not enough to make it too damaging if an OC is invested. Aww, thanks for the trust Twelfth. I kinda trust you too, going by your posts throughout the game. I'm less sure of Peng though. His day one attempted kill and lifeless save had the feel of a setup to me.

My personal opinion is that starspren are in fact either shooting stars, or Allomantically powered spacecraft from Scadrial.

I can understand that, but I think it slightly catchier than Adonalsiumspren.

There we go. The King of Nowhere has solved it. The Ryshadium are ALL Bela, just cloned.

I think people are using the term 'Godspren' as a generic title for the 'unique' Spren, like the Stormfather and Nightwatcher. The comment that Honour wasn't shattered until after the Recreance makes me wonder though, if Stormfather was around before then, how could he be Honour's cognitive shadow? And wouldn't that make him, and Nightwatcher, and various other unique Spren, Spren of Adonalsium as opposed to Spren of Honour/Cultivation?

In WoR, when Kaladin is going downhill again and Syl is losing herself, he tells her that he is broken. She replies with, "They all were, silly." This seems to be a common thing throughout the Cosmere. Allomancy is gained when the cracks is someone's soul are filled, so it is with surgebinding too. I think that, if you could find a way of substituting other elements for Stormlight, then surgebinding would be possible.

I also considered that it could be a kandra practical joke, but I think it is interesting when in Warbreaker we have Breaths which, when accumulated enough, give perfect pitch, and here we have a horse which, supposedly, belches in perfect pitch. I'll admit, it may well be a story made up by Wayne, but is it not also possible that the horse is a Worldhopper? Perhaps it is Hoid's horse? He is in Alloy of Law, so maybe he had a horse he picked up and invested some Breath into.
-
Pretty early on in Alloy of Law, Wax has some thought about Wayne claiming to have once 'traded' for a horse which belched in perfect musical notes. Does this mean he stole a horse who had attained the 5th heightening? Could it be Ryshadium? There is something very different about those horses. Are they Returned?

It did look like he was going for option 1 there, so maybe the Bloodsealer was an OC who didn't have permission, so to speak, to kill off Odium, and force the Shard to select someone new. My vote for this cycle is for Unodus. Not because I have hard evidence against him, but rather because you guys killed off the only other person I was suspicious of. Turns out he was innocent too (Ostrich). So, I'm going to trust Snoopy.

'What?' Bortin watched in astonishment as Odium was revealed to them. The sudden flurry of information almost sent him staggering. Here he was, trying to work out how best he could help, when it turns out Odium had been with them all along. He recorded everything to his copperminds, then retreated to consider what he now knew. The dramatic reveal held other clues that Bortin picked up on as he later recalled and studied the events that had transpired. They cast much of what he had been thinking over the past few days in a new light, and Bortin once again found himself considering those around him. He frowned, slapping himself on the forehead as a realisation came to him. He had been taken in. That said, he did now have someone to observe a little more closely, and at least he hadn't been pulled into the mislynching of Antillar. Pulling his Terris robes straight, Bortin left his chambers in Lord Hobbes' keep. If Lord Hobbes was in contact with the Shards, and there was too much evidence not to believe it, then Bortin now knew who to speak to. Snoopy, I'd like to talk to you please. My suspicions are now on Dowanx. Hoid's assertion that Winter is innocent made me go back and reexamine my reasons behind voting for him in the last cycle. This led me to examine Dowanx closer too, as it was his ideas that first made me suspicious of Winter. First, he tried to suggest that Winter was trying to publicly discover who the Shards were. I don't think I've seen anything from Winter that would make me agree with that statement outside of plans everyone was discussing. Seems we can't quote properly from locked threads, but that was Dowanx on Day 2 (Main thread #422 - It's not a bad post for casting suspicion on Winter, I fell for it, and didn't quite believe his protests). He then voted for Winter in the day 2 cycle along with Mailliw, who we now know to be Odium, and Araris, who I know nothing about. On day 3, he threw his vote at Vine, I think to avoid drawing attention to himself. I think this because he waited until it was obvious that Antillar was going to die, and because voting for Vine would give him an appearance of innocence (#610). Again, in this he shared the vote with Odium, but this time also with Antillar (who obviously knew he was being set up), Peng, and Leift.

While that cover is pretty cool, I do wish that cover artists would read the novels they are drawing for.

Thank you Snoopy. I was eating when I read that. Now I need to go clean my monitor.

Brandon often does things like that it seems. I requested a copy of White Sands via his website, and he sent me that plus Aether of Night. Also, when travelling, he often calls in at bookstores in airports to sign a few books, and tuck a few goodies inside them.

Mistborn: Birthright - What do you want to see?
Bort replied to AussieMistborn's topic in General Brandon Discussion
What Aussie said. An open world RPG where you control a Mistborn would be epic. (or not, since it is the wrong reality, but you know what I mean). -
Most of your assertions of innocence, if I'm being honest. I'm not sure what it was about them, they just struck me as a bit off.
