I own (or used to own) most of the Star Wars novels (both good and bad), and have a decent chunk of Star Trek novels (mostly terrible, but with the occasional gem), but I would have to say that my favourite sci-fi books are either Ender's Game (awesome book that asks a lot of questions about the human race), or one of Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. Probably Excession because the Sleeper Service is both an excellent character and a brilliant ship. I'll admit though, that my fantasy collection far outweighs my sci-fi collection.

Not professionally, but I build my own and help with friends'. Dare I ask what the worst stormlight pun ever was?

What would you create for Elantris' 10th Anniversary?
Bort replied to Oath Breaker's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Oops, wrong book... D'oh! Limited edition talking Nightblood with stand and mist production would have to be for Warbreaker, not Elantris. -
I see, thanks Argent. Do we know if Brandon will ever publish all of his Cosmere short stories in one volume?
-
I don't doubt it. Maybe not in the first 5 books, but certainly in the second series. Wasn't something said about there being another planet in the Greater Roshar system? There is a thread around here somewhere of someone trying to draw out starcharts, and they have three planets in Roshar. Maybe the third planet is the Tranquiline Halls.

Ok, I finally have proof to stand by assertion that Alloy of Law is not part of the second Mistborn trilogy. This was from Brandon during his signing in Manchester in August last year. The link to the full interview is here: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/14404-manchester-signing-august-5-2014/?p=166899

Greetings Cosmere Kitty. I'm not sure if your question has ever properly been answered, although I think it is pretty safe to assume it has something to do with the Oathpact. As for where... current theory is they go to Braize, another planet in the same system as Roshar, which is also affectionately nicknamed 'Damnation' and is probably the home to Odium.

Or maybe.. "I am your stick."

"Hey Ganchos, give the Lopen your spheres. He's got glowing needs to be done!" May be paraphrased slightly as I don't have the books here, but even, what, six months(?) since Words of Radiance came out, that line still makes me smile whenever I think about it.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Bort replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you join the library specifically so you don't need to wait until payday to read one of his new books. -
He is Sebarial, she is Palona. Checking the Coppermind wiki for her name, this was the entire content of her page... Watch out for the massive spoilers Staying on topic, what about Taravangian's ardent friend? The one who wandered into the Diagram almost by accident, and stayed.

Personally, I think this is how the Cosmere story arc will end. They work out what the threat to Adonalsium is, and have to assemble all of the heroes from the various Cosmere worlds to form an epic squad to go and win the day. Vin, Elend, and Kelsier will be there, as will Kaladin, Shallan, Eshonai, and a load of other Knights Radiant. Vasher and Vivenna. The Shards of Adonalsium themselves. Plus the various heroes from the other worlds. Now that is something I would love to read, although I would feel very sorry for anyone picking up that book as their first Sanderson novel.

Thanks Quiver. That's not bad, but for the way the timelines from the various books meet just seems to be speculation, rather than anything supported by WoB.
-
Understandably, the entire sequence of Cosmere books will take place over thousands of years, at least. Maybe millions. This we know from the prologue of Way of Kings "4500 years ago...". I am rather curious though, how the various Cosmere novels tie into each other's timeline. Take, for example, Mistborn. Brandon has said that Scadrial will be the setting for three trilogies set at different eras - The Final Empire, 300 years later, and further into the future. Technically, all of these could take place in the 4500 years between the Recreance and modern day Roshar. Perhaps the starspren are in fact allomancy-powered spacecraft from Scadrial. Or Warbreaker. Vasher appears on Roshar, having been there for, I believe it was said, around 50 years. So Warbreaker happened at least that much sooner than Way of Kings. Even sooner when you consider Nightblood will be a sequel. Is there an overall timeline for the Cosmere, to give us an idea of when things have played out?

That is what I meant, thanks. I have edited my post.

This is true, but the same applies to science. You can get different effects from an element depending on which catalyst you use with it. I see no reason why you couldn't get different types of savant due to the different metals.

Impressive WitSpren.

That is the way it should work, but what if things are different because it is Roshar, the Heralds were (probably) slivers of Honour, and it is aluminium (rare and expensive on Scadrial, and can only be produced by soulcasting on Roshar)? I don't have any evidence to back this up, it was just an interesting thought that came to me while finishing Alloy of Law.
-
I know there are threads touching on this subject, but I cannot find them. One thread I saw a few days ago suggested that the Herald that turned up at Kholinar at the end of WoK may not actually be Taln, but may in fact just be a madman, or one of the other Heralds, or just someone else. Well, I found something last night which may support this. In the Ars Arcanum in Alloy of Law, it noted that aluminium's feruchemical properties was to store identity. Was Taln the Herald a feruchemist? Has someone else got hold of one of his aluminiumminds?

New Stormlight Archive Scene post-Words of Radiance
Bort commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
I see the rope is not as strong willed as the stick. -
They used to be connected to the Spren. Using the Stormfather to change is possibly a legacy of that. The spren themselves determine what form the Listeners are changed into, in this case, they had Odium's stormspren, so they got Stormform. The lightning is something akin to surgebinding, only from voidspren instead of honourspren or cryptic (or any of the others).

I don't think so. Odium's minions should need to wait for the Everstorm to recharge, like Kaladin has to wait for a Highstorm.

Sorry, I didn't explain it very well. The shattering of Adonalsium was like the splintering of Honour, just on a larger scale. The main difference being, Adonalsium had all the different attributes which became the Shards. The Shards themselves only had one of the attributes, so when they splintered, their power was dispersed, as opposed to contained in Shards. I've got no real evidence for this, I just think it makes sense. Edit: If anything, I think they should be named the other way. Adonalsium splintered into the different Shards, and some of those have been shattered, dispersing their power.
-
The proof of this is in Adonalsium's splintering. Sazed has combined two f the splinters of Adonalsium - the Shaards Ruin and Preservation. What happened there is like the splintering of Honour, only on a larger scale.
