In news that will surprise no one, we are removing Blogs from the main navigation bar. All the functionality still exists, you just now need to access it from the dropdown menu to the left of the search box. Blogs were rarely used, so I'm pretty sure no one will cry over de-emphasizing them.

I think it would be very advantageous to have a gun, damage arguments aside, because you can conserve your metals more in a combat situation and you don't have to carry around coins. Guns and bullets work without Allomancy, coins don't, so it's just smarter to carry bullets and use them instead.

Boom, added to Around the Cosmere: http://www.17thshard.com/news/around-the-cosmere/around-the-cosmere-for-april-14th-2013-r131 Good to finally get this done. Thanks Windy!

Welcome back to Around the Cosmere, where we blab about miscellaneous Brandon news and happenings around in the community. It's been a while, so there's plenty to discuss. Most importantly, Brandon is doing on AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit tomorrow, the 15th. It'll be on r/fantasy, but don't worry, we'll update this post the second the AMA appears. It's definitely worth getting a Reddit account, since Brandon occasionally answers questions there. For the cosmere savvy, we've posted a Q&A from an older signing. It has some minor Words of Radiance info, like confirming something people have noted for a while, as well as revealing another order of Knights Radiant. Check it out (and thank Windrunner for transcribing it!). EDIT: Just tonight, Windy has posted a second Q&A, which is our last Q&A in our backlog. Take a gander at that, too! Tor.com has posted two more chapters of The Rithmatist, so we have all the way to chapter five now. You can start right at the beginning if you’ve missed it, or you can start at chapter four and chapter five if you’re already up to speed. The Rithmatist release is rapidly coming soon, too, just a month away now! For you Wheel of Time fans, the A Memory of Light ebook is at last out for you to peruse, available from all major ebook retailers. Rejoice! Remember how The Emperor’s Soul has been nominated for a Hugo? Brandon’s agent, Joshua Bilmes, posted a blog about how it went from concept to an award nominee in just over a year. It’s a truly fascinating look into the process, and how Tachyon was chosen for the novella’s home. See those amazing bookmarks to the right? The lovely Mi’chelle is making fancy bookmarks in the Alethi script. As you can see, they are simply gorgeous. You can customize them with whatever text you’d like too! They are laminated and amazing. They are $10 for a bookmark with text on one side, and $13 for text on both sides, plus $5.95 for shipping. You can order them here. And if you have questions? You can ask Mi’ch for anything you like in her thread Have you had questions you’ve always wanted to know the answer to? Or are you the type of person who likes to answer questions for the newer members of the board? Well, we’d like your help to submit both question and answers to FAQs we are putting together. Hopefully you’ll find them helpful when they are finished! In addition to the link to that one in the Cosmere forum, you can find dedicated topics for each individual series, too. See you next time around the cosmere!

All I can say is wow.

That's exactly what I thought happened. At the very least he's sticking around in the Cognitive or Spiritual Realm; that much is clear.
-
I am so excited for this. I love Terraria so much. Also, Totalbiscuit and Jesse Cox (who made a very long series of a hilarious let's play for terraria) are going to do a series on Starbound

At the very least, we really will get transcriptions up more quickly. This was an inordinately long time. Sorry about that. Very much unintentional.

ShardCast Returns Monday with Inquisitor Santa

I probably have it somewhere, I just can't find it. I know it is accurate, it's just probably easier to get a new confirmation

I think you're reading it incorrectly. The second phrase suggests it was the trek down to the Central Dominance that did them in, and I interpret the first phrase to mean "the trek is harder due to the mists and it being harder to get food." It in no way directly implies that any Terrispeople were struck by mistsickness. Considering they were moving from the Terris Dominance, I think it's pretty clear that a lack of food due to the mists would be a very serious concern. Also, Twinborn did not exist during the time of the Final Empire. I think Windy showed me a very esoteric quote once that suggested that Allomancy actually had a difficult time mixing with Feruchemical powers, and so even if people did interbreed, it would be really rare for there to be an actual Twinborn. These extreme rarities meant that, hey, it was so rare that it never actually happened The Terris people was very insular, actually, and mostly bred with their own kind.

That's interesting. Apparently what happens when you edit a post containing that, the url tag becomes url=undefined, and so the link breaks. Very uncool. I don't like that at all.

http://coppermind.net/wiki/Shallan's_father EDIT: To fix, turn off the rich text editor and paste the URL in with a url and /url tag. That was what I just did and that worked.

Nepene, Please PM me or any other administrator if you feel you have been harassed from downvotes and we shall discuss the matter. We take downvote harassment seriously and we can investigate such matters. Please do not jump to conclusions. EDIT: Oops, I should add in my questions. What differentiates the Early, Middle, and Late Eras on Sel? Why does giving your Breath to another person not require color? Every other Command does.

There's a system on the site called the Warning system, which lets us give warnings to people for infractions. However, we've virtually never used it. I assume you saw the warning points thing on the comments on the Home page? I'm working to get rid of it appearing there; they are unnecessary and certainly unnecessarily intimidating

Any chance of a new Q&A with Brandon sometime this year?
Chaos replied to Arran's topic in Events and Signings
I couldn't possibly think it will be soon, since he technically hadn't finished our last Q&A. He did say he would finish it sometime, but we haven't wanted to bug him because obviously Words of Radiance comes first. -
That's an error. I believe they have revised it in a later edition. Larasium has been the longstanding mispelling of that word before it was canonized as "lerasium" on the first Table of Allomantic Metals. The hardcover RPG has it spelled as larasium on their Feruchemical table in the back. It's just an error. Furthermore, we do actually know that burning lerasium Allomantically just increases your power in Allomancy. I don't have the quote readily available, but that is indeed its normal ability (it isn't just an RPG thing). Of course there are other sDNA things, but if you just naively burn it, that is what will happen.

Emperor Soul's for the Win!!!
Chaos replied to ProfessorMLyon's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Boom! http://www.17thshard.com/news/brandon-news/the-emperors-soul-gets-a-hugo-nomination-r130 I am so happy it got a nomination. I seriously love this book so much. Of Brandon's works, it's one of his best written. Prose wise, it's that or Way of Kings. It's amazing. -
By knowing some things about the number 16 (and powers of it), you can perhaps guess where the cutoffs are.
-
A huge congratulations to Brandon, as it was just announced today that The Emperor's Soul has won a Hugo nomination. The Emperor's Soul is simply fantastic--and in my opinion the best of Brandon's shorter works--and is entirely deserving of this honor. For those who don't know, the Hugos are a very prestigious award in Science Fiction/Fantasy and are given out by attendees of the World Science Fiction Convention (also known as WorldCon). So, if you happen to be going to San Antonio for it on August 29th-September 2nd, why not vote for TES? You can see the full list of Hugo nominees at WorldCon's site.

I would buy that explanation.
