  1. Considering the amount of crap people get for discussing things that are not available for everyone (and that definitely has made people upset, historically)... that's why we do that. And it is also the reason why there is not discussion on unpublished material. Though there plenty who want the hints, there are others who get upset that they can't read the stuff. And since we can't post what is in the Steelhunt, I kind of feel this is a better way, though I really want to have discussion on that stuff. So I understand the annoyance at the moderation team over it, Havoc. But seriously we have had people leave the site over conflict about things like this. I don't think this would happen with Steelhunt stuff, but I legitimately worry about this a *lot*, and I think I can speak for all the staff on that that we worry about this sort of thing. Does that make sense? (That said, I certainly don't LIKE that we need to do it this way, but I hope this explanation at least helps in consoling the crappiness of it.)
  2. How do you figure Order 10 has to do with animal life?
  3. We will also have a scavenger hunt very soon in the site for a code, and it is going to be good. Just taking a while to coordinate with Mi'ch (our schedules seem diametrically opposed). So anyone who needs a code will be able to find it. That said I do kind of agree with the criticism of the Steelhunt.
  4. I'll buy. But I don't know if it would happen in Words of Radiance. Maybe in Eshonai's book. Nightblood will be destroyed in the sequel to Warbreaker.
  5. Sell. We will see Voidbringers in Words of Radiance.
  6. Wow. This is awesome. Next readthrough I'll have to look closely. Brandon did always say there were worldhoppers we missed, and I'm sure there's more of them out there.
  7. Or you misinterpreted it

    Lol! Valid point

    Favicon

Were you using Internet Explorer, by chance, Argent? I've done some more research on favicons and that appears to be a problem. I intend to get that sorted out. This thread also reminded me that I need to optimize the favicon for high resolution displays...
  10. ExMakina (and Feather for prompting it), Thank you so much for contributing. Seriously, this stuff is awesome and improves things so much. I'm so happy! It is excellent artwork. The fact that you aren't yet totally happy with them both astonishes me (because they are great) and excites me, because that means even better stuff might appear? I would love to see that and continue to be amazed. Please feel free to upload any other art you do, if you so desire. It really does help. Welcome to 17th Shard, by the way I hope you chill here occasionally. And also you can show off your art in our gallery section too, if you like? Er. That was not meant to sound sales-pitchy. Really, everyone needs to give you lots of upvotes for this awesomeness, and I'd love to see it happen.
  11. Transcendence! Muwhahaha!

  12. I would personally order it like: Appearance and Personality, Attributes and Abilities, History, Relationships, Development, Quotes, Trivia. I'm not opposed to Quotes being last, though, because that could be a long list. I just feel Abilities should be before with a potentially-extremely-long history section, you know? For Intro, are you having that be a section unto itself, or the stuff right at the top before any sections? I'd prefer the latter, personally. I only did it for the Shard article because the intro at the top already got too busy XD
  13. True that. Feather in her very recent and excellent Renarin revision used the term "Attributes and Abilities," which is definitely better. Though, obviously, not every character article would need to include that section. Additionally, I think it's good to note that for very short articles, it is not a good idea to force this section scheme on it. Two sections when all the info we have is two sentences is kind of silly.
  14. Sometimes that Staff box doesn't quite work right, and I'm not sure why it does that. I think Joe saw Windy listed there three times once. It's odd.
  15. This is a fantastic discussion to be having. Joe, Windy, and I have had extensive debate on the subject. It's a good one to bring back up. I would say, Feather and Weiry, you should write in whatever tense makes you happy. That's always been my opinion. I want policies that encourage I often write things in present as well, but I get away with it because I write articles on magic. Of course, that's kind of untenable in large scale wiki, and we should have some sort of policy to deal with this sort of thing. Now is a really great time to solidify policies, because while we have a lot of articles, after thirty more cosmere books (not to mention a bunch of non-cosmere stuff of Brandon's), it would be really bad to correct things afterwards. Better to do it when we have 1500 than 15,000, you know. Meg, I had actually not included the tense thing in the Style Guide due to this ambiguity. I didn't want to open that can of worms XD So, now's a good time to standardize that stuff. I'll make a more in-depth reply right now, but I must say Feather makes a good point. I am inclined to agree with the English major here. I'll explain my reasoning in a bit. I fully agree that we need a section guideline for each type of article. In fact I had intended to something like that eventually, but got busy. Story of my life. I do want to make, like, a thing that shows proper article structure for Characters, Places, and all the high level categories. For section guidelines, I think we should make it so not every section is necessarily required, and additional ones can be added if necessary (for example, Hoid's article requires a few special Hoid-specific sections that would not be needed on other character articles). For characters, I say that we should have at least, in no particular order: Personality, Appearance, History, Abilities, Quotes (because cool quotes should always be included if the article warrants it), and Trivia. I think Personality and Appearance can be grouped together in one section, as they aren't really long sections compared with History. History can, of course, have multiple subsections. There can also be a section about, like, Brandon's process in creating a character, which would usually come from annotations. That section could be called Development or something. It's like the section on Wikipedia's movie articles about the production of the film. That'd be a cool section to have which we often neglect. Am I missing any major sections for Character articles?
  16. Lol! This does not surprise me, but it does make me laugh a lot XD
  17. Fine Brandon can rename and switch things around until the books are published, so that's a thing that can happen. Also, clearly, Bondsmiths are Order 8, since they have the surface tension-y Surge.
  18. This is awesome. Told you guys that it would be Friction, not Heat Division is an awesome Surge name. Makes sense given the Skybreakers name and what little we have seen of Dustbringers. I'm surprised Brandon corrected Travel to Transportation. Windy told me Travel was a confirmed Surge, so I blame Windy for everything. I wonder what Surface Tension's precise name will be... By the way, it is Elsecaller. Not Elscaller. Also, wow, Bondsmiths. I missed that in the other topic. Very interesting.
  19. Darn, you found the spot I was referring to. I should've removed that. Also yes, we had a great deal of fun with the negative reputation levels, as you can clearly see XD
  20. I don't think it was ever a thread. I was told that Commands were the focus for Awakening many years ago, possibly before 17th Shard existed. It was the first time I met Mi'ch, actually. Definitely before the AMoL split was announced, so it would be pre-17S. So, you don't really get much better citation than me saying he told me this. It was a long time ago, and we are better at citing things now.
  21. If it is publicly available to all (like say in a recording I made ) then it can be discussed.
  22. Joe did, apparently. Argent can post the transcription of the part of the reading that was recorded; no reason to not allow that.
  23. Yes, it is.
  24. But fundamental properties of matter are not Surges at all. None of the confirmed surges so far are such things. Rather, they are forces acting upon things. Gravity is a force. Pressure applies a force to objects. Friction is a force. Growth is an action, so I guess in Brandon's way of thinking it is a force. Forces are essentially about change, after all. Transformation. Absolutely zero of these are properties of matter, and have everything to do with change or some force. What aren't Surges: mass, length, temperature, etc.
  25. Very nice about the Skybreakers and confirmation on some order numbers. However, why would Fire be a separate Surge from Friction? Those two are related, after all, so I don't think those are independent things. Of course, that is probably a comment I should save for the Tumblr post's authors
