Ah right, I was actually thinking of conscious spren like Sylphrena in Stormlight as the canonical example of "has a presence in the Physical and Cognitive Realms, but not the Spiritual" (as far as we know). But Ashravan... Here's a pair of WoBs that together raise interesting questions: Quote Lady Radagu What exactly was Shai's Soul Forging of Ashravan comparing itself to to see how well it sticks? Like the Spiritual aspect? Cognitive aspect? Brandon Sanderson It's more Spiritual. Much more Spiritual. Man, it's a real shame Rithmatist isn't Cosmere anymore, because it fits really well, and Spiritual entities are cool. Plus, Rithmatics fills a nice little niche in the magics with some of its powers that I don't think the other Cosmere magics quite do (namely, convenient forcefields, as well as controlled chalklings). Would fit pretty neatly with some kind of rather oddly-shaped Selish country, actually. Dang that's a lot, I've only done two reads of most of the books... I've read the Liar of Partinel sample chapters too many times, does that count? A collection of theorists I only read most books once to.
Honorless he/him Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Not just Rithmatist, Dreamer fits in the Cosmere very well too!

We established that it was allowed. You know at the end of Way of Kings, the scene where Kaladin has an internal battle before saving Dalinar? I’ve got it memorized from the point Kaladin says “Men, we’re free!” to the point that Dalinar says “For the bridgeman”. It is my favorite scene in Stormlight. Edited March 16, 2021 by Chinkoln

Reading is my world, and it is my mind. So I read a lot, and my mind needs a break. I go out into the world and read some, discuss with my relatives, then go read some more. 1
Frustration Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 So, I want some opinions there is a WoB I find intresting Spoiler Tiek00n What would happen if Lift ate aluminum or other Allomantic metals? Brandon Lift would not be able to do anything with Allomantic metals. Good question. Tiek00n Does that include turning them into Stormlight? Brandon Yes, that includes turning them into Stormlight. Skyward San Diego signing (Nov. 7, 2018) Now, is this just another case of LIft not being able to use what she couldn't digest, or is this another thing special about allomantic metals?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) She can only convert what she is able to metabolize for nutrients to Investiture. Arcanum Unbounded Hoboken signing (Dec. 3, 2016) But Brandon didn't say that, so is it just that she wouldn't be able to digest them, or is there something else here?
Chinkoln he/him Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Maybe she would be able to digest a small amount, the amount needed for daily nutrition. The rest would just sit as a lump in her stomach.

That would just be a function of normal digestion though, is there something unique to the allomantic metals that prevents Lift from processing them, because Allomancers can do basically the same thing except only with metal, is it due to fundemental differences between Cultivation and Preservation, or is it a function of the metals themselves?

Frustration Posted March 21, 2021 Author Posted March 21, 2021 I just found this WoB and thought you guys should see this. Spoiler Brandon Sanderson By the way, you probably remember form book one the way that Inquisitors see. They have such a subtle touch with Steel and Iron, and their lines, that they can see via the trace metals in everyone's bodies and in the objects around them. The thing is, any Allomancer with access to iron or steel could learn to do this. Some have figured it out, in the past, but in current times, nobody–at least, nobody the heroes know–is aware of this. Except, of course, for Marsh. And he chose not to share it.
